Tizzie and Louis are on holiday in Cornwall. When they arrive at the beach, they go off exploring and discover a cave - rather a magical cave as it turns out, and they soon find themselves in Kernowland where they come across some weird and not-so-wonderful characters. After being attacked by giant climbing crabs, they have the great misfortune to meet the nasty Melanchol Drym, the fearsome Cap'n Pigleg, the slimy Mr and Mrs Maggitt, and the none-too-nice Brazilian brainboiler tree - to mention just a few...
An excellent book for young children, full of excitement and adventure but also teaches them some things (compass points and basic map reading in this case). The book does not conclude any part of the story so you will definitely need to read the later novels in the series. But that's not a problem, I'm dying to read what's next!
A really nice children’s book. Numerous learning opportunities for cross curricular links with science, geography and history. Fantastic last pages with detailed information on specific things relating to Cornwall and history as well as links to websites for further information.
A very good storyline. I found it quite easy to read. It ended with quite a good cliffhanger. However, I found it a bit difficult to follow the scene changes at first.
I met the author way back when I was 7 or 8 (I'm almost 16 now) and I recently bought the rest of the series. They were a nice light read, and I certainly enjoyed it as a child and still quite like them now. Would highly recommend as a book for children who like books such as Narnia
Reading this book to my kids. It was a little more violent than i thought. It is a good read. My kids and are enthralled in the story. They never want to miss a night time read.
