An intriguing book, a memoir of the author's grandmother Lucy, who appears to have been quite a character! Set in Queensland last century, the book is also a paean to her impressive gardens, which are described in mouth-watering detail, with an astonishing array of adjectives that in this case are not superfluous. The book is also very forthcoming to an unusual degree regarding her sexual and psychological peccadillos and faults. It is hard to know what is true and what is embellished in this unvarnished account of a very unusual life, but whatever the actual truth, what has been written is very interesting, entertaining, and informative.
