"If I could, I’d swim the deepin search of treasures for you to keep."From the first rays of the morning sun to the last nod of a tiny head at bedtime, a toddler and mother share a blissfully ordinary day. But there is nothing ordinary about the love between them — a love that is as bright as flowers, as lovely as a song, as comforting as stars, and as deep as the ocean.
A sweet book about the extraordinary love between a mother and child. It reads like a lullaby. And the illustrations are sweet and gentle and beautiful. Perfect bedtime story!
This book is a short story (with pictures) about a mother's love for her child. The mother wishes she could keep the sun up all day, paint flowers, and swim to deep measures to find treasure all for her child. At the end the mother says, "I couldn't love you more than I do. But if I could I would." This story really paints the picture of how a mother-child relationship should be. I like this book because I can relate this book to my life with my mom. Also it is very warm and makes me want to love people more. I would for sure use this book in my classroom. Probably not in a class read but I would have it on my bookshelf and refer this book if a kid is having a bad day or week. I would use this in a classroom, as well, because the language is easy and the beginning of the story is pretty repetitive,"If I could I would." Would definitely have this on the bookshelf for a child to pick up during free time or even reading time.
This book is about a mother and all she is willing to do for her child.
I loved this book because a lot of children's books are not just about their mothers. so if a child were to have a single mom this would be helpful to show how much their mother really does love them.
I would use this maybe in a lesson about feelings. this book talks about a mothers love and maybe ask them how they feel about different things that are shown in the book
What a beautiful treasure of love from a mother to her child. Every mother should give this book to her child no mater what their age. I have had this book for a long time and read it not too long ago when I was have some difficulties raising my child and I gave it to him again even though he was a teenager. It expresses the deepest feelings of love a mother has for her children and if she could love him or her more, she would.
The story was nice, but what my son (2.5) and I loved was the illustrations. They were well done, but more than that, the scenes were activities he and I do together daily. (We live on an island, so we are always at the beach, not sure I would have found it as touching if we still lived in the midwest.)
If I Could: A Mother's Promise is exactly what the title implies, all the different promises a mother might make to her child as they grow up. The story is super cute in that a reader can see that when a mother and baby wake up on a seemingly ordinary day filled with the extraordinary love that lies between the hearts of a mother and a child. A love that is "as bright as flowers, as lovely as a song, as comforting as stars, and as deep as the ocean" and never ends. I am all about sweet sappy books like these because they are beautifully written and take what might be simple for some and shows the complexity within. I think that this book could be used in a lesson right before Mother's Day with an accompanying activity where the students write cards for their moms. I think it would also be effective in a lesson on imagery and in-depth descriptions because the book is filled with it!
I love sappy I love you books. I got this one for myself to read on Mother's Day. I read it tonight at the bookstore (my after adult ballet treat! No kids at the bookstore!) The books tells all the wonderful things this mother would do "if (she) could". Then it ends with a sweet, "I'd love you more, if I could."
This would be classified with the "Guess How Much I Love You" and "I'll Love You Forever" books. Only it's even simpler in text. Sweet illustrations (my favorite part of the book). Short, simple message. More of a lap-read with your child than in a group storytime.
This book shows the love between a mother and her child. I really enjoyed reading it and it will give you warm feelings when you do. I think books that exhibit caring and love are good influences on children.
This book shows a strong bond between a mother and her child. It might be a good way to give children ideas for writing a personal narrative about a family member. It could also be a conversation starter about family and bonds between people.
