In late 2011 a cryptic invitation leads a crime novelist to Venice's Island of the Dead. Once there he is captivated by his host's tale, which spans the centuries - but seemingly begins and ends in the dark days of the 1930s . . .
In 1936, a similarly cryptic invitation brings Grail historian Otto Rahn to an apartment in Berlin. Waiting for him inside is Hitler's right-hand man, Heinrich Himmler, and Rahn's life is turned upside down.
For Himmler wants Rahn to locate Les Serpent Rouge, a notorious book of black magic written by Pope Honorius in the 14th century.
Following a trail from Paris down to Carcassone in the South of France, Rahn discovers a web of deceit and murder. Clearly Himmler is not the only powerful figure in search of the grimoire. A shadowy circle of men are watching Rahn's every move, and they will stop at nothing to possess both the book and the legendary Sixth Key that will unlock its terrifying power . . .

I enjoy this kind of story that experience pasts mystery’s and legends. I liked the book, but something was missing and I don’t know what. The way to past and present timelines were connected kinda ruined the book for me a bit.
Frustrated at this novel. After persevering with the slow opening half of the novel, I felt like it started to build nicely, only to find that the end was nonsensical and rediculous. I liked the historical accuracy of characters and events, which for me was the highlight. Left feeling very disappointed.
This novel is certainly not for everyone. It has been exceedingly hard to rate and review. "The Sixth Key" shines on so many levels, the author's research and writing are top tier. She moves the story between time epochs like a sleight of hand artist. Most history fans will appreciate the blending stories. There is a fair amount of action and humor. At times it felt like Ms. Koulias was poking a little fun at her own work, which was refreshing.
This is also NOT a quick read. Even with a couple of days off, it took me a week to read. As others have mentioned, it does get bogged down. The story gets convoluted in the middle with what seems like almost the same trip to many churches. Without a map the place names and those of people begin to dull the mind. I can also see why readers may have been frustrated with the lack of a definitive ending. I often am with this kind of book. However, the author though gives clues throughout the book that there may be a whimsical, if not quaint ending. Overall an intriguing read for a select group of readers.
When Templars, Cathars, Nazis, Otto Rahn, and a mysterious Writer of Letters are found in one novel it's a joy to read! Especially when you see the amount of research and historical significance which went into the story. This is what grabbed my attention and kept me enjoying a tale spanning at least three time periods. Best of all, the way Adriana Koulias interwove the time periods and brought the tale to fruition is enjoyable and full of historical thrills. You will enjoy this book if you have a love of history and conspiracies.
Very interesting historical story. Learned thing about the Cather's treasure I never knew not the least how it involved Hitler and his search for ultimate power. Fast paced thriller, bit on the dark side for my taste as it was a bit scary. Is this treasure really out there hidden, protected at all costs? Who really knows, and may those who are good continue to thwart evil!
I have been enjoying Adriana Koulias's Rosicrucian Quartet very much, and The Sixth Key is the best yet. The fact that most of her characters are historical figures makes this astounding story even more riveting. I will be starting the fourth book immediately!
I have read a ton of books on this topic and this is definitely a new twist. I think it over does it on the details a bit though and is overly complex. I enjoyed the Indiana Jones reference.
I'm so close to finishing this one, but I just can't do it. I don't care anymore. It's well written, but ... I just can't get into it enough. It's taken me weeks to get as far as I have.
