A powerful novel by Lizzie Wilcock, the acclaimed author of Losing It. Quiet, shy Paige has been best friends with Elfi and Rochelle for years. Together with their mate Jed, the gang vows on the last day of school to stay friends forever. But when Paige discovers no one has written in her yearbook, she starts to feel invisible. When Paige gets back to school after the summer, she accidentally falls in with the popular crowd and her world turns upside down. Can Paige find a way to stay true to herself when everything around her is changing? Give Me Four Reasons is a coming-of-age book for girls, leaving behind the comfort of primary school and embarking on the adventure of secondary school!
This book was incredibly hard for me to read, actually. Not because of bad writing, a bad plot, on the contrary! It was a wonderfully written plot, and the story was relatable, and left me wanting more every single time I was forced to put it down. No, my problem with the book was how well developed the characters were. They were so real to me that I began to feel that I was Paige, and I became increasingly angry with the characters in the book.
We join Paige at the end of her primary schooling years, feeling an outcast and unwanted as she recieves no messages in her passport, and is unnoticed in the water balloon fight. Back at home, she celebrates with her friends, still feeling alone as they recount the experiences they had without her that day.
The plot thickens from there, and Paige begins to develop into the person she wants to be, who isn't necessarily who her friends want her to be. That is the part that really gets me, makes me want to scream at her friends, and I get disappointed when I realize they're only on the page and in my mind.
The climax is brilliant and a plausible reaction to the events and experiences that Paige had been having, as a confused 13 year old girl.
I would definately recommend this book, it's a wonderful piece of fun and engaging literature, though definately not to be classed as a challenging or thought-provoking read.
A great book with a poor ending. Paige is a shy girl beginning high school. She has very poor self-esteem and feels she left no mark in Primary school and that most people didn't notice her at all. After her summer liberating holiday break she begins high school. Through a variety of mishaps, ends up in the popular group. She finds she must choose between her old friends and her new cool friends. Themes of friendship, bullying and adolescent relationships. She beautifully captures the cruelty that some young girls inflict upon each other. While the author captures very well the isolation and other that some teenagers feel, I really must say I didn't like the ending. It's because of this I wouldn't recommend it to young girls unless they were reading it in a book club, or with some adult guidance. Some of Paige's decisions really are terrible and I wouldn't want my students to emulate her.
this book was okay. though i felt like there was something missing in some parts and i didnt really like how Paige acted, reacted or delt with things and didnt she say she was shy?
In the blurb, it says that the lead character, Paige, suddenly becomes popular in High School, but she made a vow to stay friends forever with her four best friends. Now, I'm halfway through the book, AND it's still the beginning of her summer. They should really change the blurb if less than half of the book isn't even set in High School. -.-
I read an extra chapter, and we're still in the beginning of summer (Christmas, in Australia). I've given up on it. Seriously.
If you want a read that goes with the blurb, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK.
The main character is doing stupid things for her sister that regular people will not do; The sister herself is all whiny and has a new boyfriend every two pages; The father is portrayed as a loving one in the beginning of the story, and doesn't show up for Christmas; The mother is supposed to be a physic, yet she doesn't seem to know that her youngest daughter is being hurt and she only cares about the older sister. I can't take anymore of this ridiculous book.

Paige has been best friends with Elfi and Rochelle ever since she can remember. On the last day of Primary School they make a vow to stay friends forever. But when Paige begins high school after the summer, she accidentally falls in with the popular crowd and things start to get complicated. Can Paige stay true to her old friends when her new friends don’t like them? And can she stay true to herself when she isn't sure who she is anymore? This is a fabulous books that I could really indulge in and enjoy!
Give me four reasons, is a book about a girl named Paige with two friends named Elfie and Rochelle. On the last day of school they each made a packed to stay best friends forever even next year. The next year they started high school. Unfortunately a few days in Paige falls in with the so called popular group and leaves her friends. if you want a relatable book I would definitely recommend this for girls aged 9-14 .if you want to know wether Paige stays true to her old friends or completely leaves them I would say read it to find out.
"Give Me Four Reasons"- A book that was, in my opinion, every well done by Lizzie Wilcock. Most aspects of the story link very well into the aimed audience/age bracket of the book. Content was relatable and plays on the stereotyped idea of high school and the pressures that come with it- this makes the book interest. I'm a bit disappointed that there wasn't any other books published with a similar storyline or a book to continue the series but it doesn't destroy the book at all.
Bravo Lizzie Wilcock for creating a book that links into Australian life all too well!!!
Give me four ,reasons by Lizzie Willock, is a great read for young girls (aged between 11 and 14). The changes Paige goes through, her feelings, her thoughts and her actions are all very easy to relate to. wonderful read i highly recommend it. (:
