"Whether you fail or succeed, win or lose, does not depend on anyone but you. You must be willing to unclog the well, have faith, and work to fulfill your potential in life." (Myles Munroe, Uncover Your Potential)

The author has written a few books on the subject of potential, including: Understanding Your Potential - Discovering the Hidden You, Maximizing Your Potential and Releasing Your Potential: Exposing the Hidden You. All are excellent. He's a pastor, so He doesn't leave God out of the picture when discussing potential. In fact, he teaches that the key to knowing your true potential is to know your Source-Your Manufacturer. Like a manufacturer would know the true potential of a product, God knows your potential. He says you'll never understand, realize, or maximize your true and full potential without a relationship with your Source.

He defines "Potential" as:

"• Dormant ability

• Reserved power

• Untapped strength

• Unused success

• Hidden talents

• Capped capability

• All you can be but have not yet become

• All you can do but have not yet done

• How far you can reach but have not yet reached

• What you can accomplish but have not yet accomplished
"

There were so many great insights in this book on how to uncover your potential, but for me personally, I found his insights on knowing your purpose in order to fulfill your potential to be the greatest. Purpose determines your potential. We can waste a lot of time on things that don't matter because we're not working on our designed purpose. He says, "Purpose and fulfilling our potential are keys to life. Without purpose, life has no meaning. There are millions today busy making a living, but they experience very little of life. If your goal in life is to be wealthy so you can retire, you have embarked on a depressing journey to nowhere. If your vision for life is measured by status, your upkeep will be your downfall. Vision is buried in purpose. Without knowledge of purpose, life becomes an endless string of activities with little or no significance. Like a rider on a rocking horse, life without purpose makes much motion but no progress."

Some key insights on uncovering your potential and worth the read!

Wow, what an encouraging message of how to live out your individual God ordained potential. In this read Dr Munroe said something that stuck in my mind, “Success is being obedient to [your] purpose." So many of us have a mindset that counterintuitive to this statement. This mindset normally states, get all that you can monetarily, socially, educationally, occupationally, etc.

God has creatively designed within each of us, a unique purpose. The question is are you walking in that purpose? This book will point you in the direction of how to do just that. Recommended reading.

An insightful read!! Few of my take home points from the book:

One good thing about failure is that it is proof that you tried. The greatest mistake you can make is to be afraid of making one.

Challenge your potential. Demand things of yourself that are beyond what you have already done. Expect more from yourself than the accomplishments that are easily within your reach.

What you have is not all you are. You are the one who limits your potential. It is better to attempt a thing and fail, than to never try and not know you could succeed.

This is such a great book. It practically makes you realise that mediocrity is not an option. That one should 'die empty' of all their God given potential. The potential is not for you, but is a call to service to benefit one's generation. Not fulfilling or burying one's potential is a way of depriving the generation from that gift! It is more or less an offence to humanity. Quite enlightening and eye opening, I must say. I highly recommend the book.

Knowing you purpose --- what your creator design you to do --- is the key in uncovering your potential. Fulfilling and doing what you are originally design to do is success.

I like that they repeat ideas that need stressing or pointing out. It is written like the author is talking to you, like you are both sitting together in a room having a conversation.

Dr. Myles Munroe was an AMAZING author. The work that put into this book created a spark in me like none other. I have discovered my reason for being and now I am becoming. I plan to read all of his books because I have learned so many things about myself and now I am able to share with others.

Life

I've discovered that I have to conceive the potential that God has given me. I must conceive it in my mind because as a man thinks so is he. That is not enough. I also must birth what my mind has conceived. That determines whether or not I realize my potential.

There was a lot of good talk in here about self-worth and why we were created, but it seemed to be more anthropomorphic rather God-centric.

This book makes you see things in a different perspective; your capabilities and increases the faith in yourself. I think everyone should read this book especially kids at a young age so they know how much power they possess within.
