Set sometime in scotland a short and interesting book about duncan macdonald and his getting ready to run in the highland games ends up turning to a mystery. Worth reading if one is looking for a fast read. Even if it is a kids book. Lots of interesting characters as well.
Fun, simple story set in Scotland dealing with old family legends, perceptions, and unlikely friendships sprung from competition and adventure! This is what children’s literature should be!
This was nice, Hardy Boys type of mystery book. It takes place in Scotland and captures the spirit of the old clans and their myths and cultrural pride fairly well. It is clearly for boys in the ten -thirteen age range, as the main boy, Duncan has some anoying comments about his little sister. However, it's clear that Duncan does love his sister and the great uncle who is raising them.
At first, Duncan shares the old hatred of an ancient rival clan, until he and a boy his age from the clan get cought up in an adventure reguarding the old, haunted castle. It's the kind of book adults can read in a day and enjoy and will inspire kids to read even more books in the same mystery, adventure genre.
