As I was surrounded by animals, I decided at an early age to become a nurse, however I couldn’t stand the sight of blood and so opted for a career in teaching. It’s a bit ironic that I married a surgeon.
I read my first Mills & Boon novel when I was 17 and that encouraged me to continue reading romance novels; the lure of the tall dark handsome hero, who in reality I fell in love with and knew I was going to marry on our second date! After marrying a year later, we moved to Scotland with our six week old baby so my husband could work and study for his MD in surgery. After the birth of our second son we came back to Australia to settle in Tasmania.
I went back to University and up-graded my teaching diploma to a degree and then went on to do a Masters but still I felt as if something was missing. I sat down one day and began writing and everything clicked into place - I had finally found ‘my brilliant career’! I used to write from instinct rather than a specific plan, but now, so many books later I find a loose plan doesn't go astray. An idea will pop into my head, sometimes it will be just a simple phrase or a what if question and I'm away.
Writing is a skill that can be learned and the best way to learn it is to read and to write. So many people feel they have a novel in them and very probably they are right-the only trick is to get it out. My advice to ‘would be’ writers is to write, write, and write even more. Carry a notebook at all times and jot down ideas. And like any other activity the more you do, the more it feels comfortable.

The heroine in this one is a whiny shrew. This could have been a good story with a different heroine, but alas, there she is in all of her contrary glory.
H/h meet at heroine's sister's wedding. Hero has a reputation as a playboy so heroine decides to dislike him on sight.
That night she drunkenly goes to the wrong hotel room and sleeps it off next to the hero. Paparazzi catches her sneaking out of his room and now it's a SCANDAL because her father is a bishop.
Already this is stretching the bounds of incredulity, but heroine's father insists she marry the guy, since he's up for promotion. Hero is also interested in marrying since he can only inherit his mother's estate if he's married.
Heroine fights tooth and nail, but eventually marries him in a red dress at the registrar's office. Hero convinces her to have honeymoon sex at an old beach house he just bought. Even after a lovely time together, heroine is still witchy and not picking up on the hero's clues that maybe there is a reason her family treats her so badly that has nothing to do with the scandal involving her and her male teacher hugging when she was 16.
Heroine is too busy rescuing her drug addict clients and condemning the hero for making her care about him that she misses all the hints.
Fortunately, there's a bible at the old beach house full of snapshots of the heroine growing up.
The heroine's confrontation with her bishop father isn't all that cathartic, since he's still insisting he's right and she has wayward genes.
Meanwhile, hero explains that his family from hell spent all of his mother's estate long ago and that's why the marriage wasn't necessary for him. He just fell in love with her at first sight.
This really stretched my suspension of disbelief because heroine was a hot mess the whole time and was never nice to hero. I'll have to be glad the hero is happy.
I did learn about the Sydney suburb of Woollahra where hero had a house. What a cool place. I can't believe how expensive the houses are there!

Jasmine selalu dianggap pembuat masalah dalam keluarganya. Sebagai anak seoran pendeta, apa yang dilakukannya mencemarkan nama baik keluarganya. Pertama, ketika dia tertangkap basah sedang berduaan dengan gurunya, dan kali ini media meliputnya keluar dari kamar hotel seorang playboy, Connor Harrowsmith. Jasmine sendiri tidak lagi berusaha membela dirinya. Dia tahu, apapun yang dikatakannya tidak akan didengarkan lagi oleh ayahnya. Bahkan ketika ayahnya memberikan ultimatum bahwa dia harus menikahi Connor dalam waktu sebulan.
Sebenarnya tawaran menikah itu berasal dari Connor sendiri. Dengan alasan menjaga reputasi Jasmine, Connor bersedia menikahi Jasmine. Tetapi Jasmine tahu itu hanya akal Connor saja untuk menjatuhkan dirinya. Selama ini Connor selalu menganggap rendah dirinya, sebagai seorang anak perempuan yang berbeda dengan saudara-saudaranya yang lain. Dia tidak akan mundur dari tantangan yang diberikan Connor. Masalahnya adalah berusaha menahan diri ketika berdekatan dengan Connor, karena tubuhnya selalu bereaksi berbeda dengan pikirannya.
Hal yang menarik dalam novel ini adalah bagaimana Jasmine diceritakan sebagai sosok anak perempuan yang berusaha mempertahankan prinsipnya, di tengah keluarga yang penuh dengan aturan yang kaku. Jauh di dalam hatinya dia tahu ada yang berbeda di dalam dirinya dibandingkan dengan keluarganya, tetapi dia tidak tahu apa itu. Ketika dia memilih jalan hidupnya sendiri, dia tahu dia mengecewakan orang tuanya. Dia selalu membuat dirinya menjadi kambing hitam dalam keluarga. Anehnya, Jasmine menunjukkan sikap yang berbeda dalam pekerjaaannya sebagai konsultan untuk orang yang terlibat narkoba dan alkohol. Dia sangat perhatian pada remaja bermasalah yang tidak mempunyai tempat tinggal, bahkan dengan penghasilan yang sangat kecil untuk pekerjaan yang berat.
Ternyata pemberontakan Jasmine ada hubungannya dengan masa lalunya (yang baru terungkap di bab-bab akhir dalam novel ini). Ibu kandung Jasmine sendiri adalah seorang mantan pencandu narkoba, yang juga pembangkang dala keluarga. Dia menyerahkan Jasmine untuk diadopsi ketika dia tahu anaknya itu tidak akan mempunyai masa depan dengannya. Apakah sifat itu yang menurun pada Jasmine? Bisa jadi...
Karakter pria (Connor) sendiri tidak terlalu diceritakan mendetail, selain bahwa dia diasuh oleh ayah tirinya, dan dia berusaha mendapatkan warisan peninggalan ibunya. Masa lalu Connor sendiri digambarkan selalu mencari kepuasan pada banyak orang, pernah berakhir di rumah penampungan (dimana dia bertemu dengan ibu kandung Jasmine), tetapi juga seorang pekerja keras sehingga memiliki banyak uang.
Hubungan antara Jasmine dan Connor awalnya seperti dua orang yang saling bermusuhan, tetapi keduanya tidak bisa mengingkari pesona satu sama lain. Meski tipikal Harlequin, saya menyukai dimana keduanya saling melontarkan kata-kata sarkasme, namun di akhirnya mereka tahu bahwa mereka saling membutuhkan. Saya juga menyukai usaha yang dilakukan oleh Connor untuk mengungkap masa lalu Jasmine.

Hadeuhhh,,ini ceritanya bnr2 deh ga masuk akal..aya2 wae yah si pengarangnya mengumpulkan semuanya diending cerita. apa coba maksudnya,,bener2 membingungkan deh krn diawal cerita sama sekali tidak ada unsur2 kesananya.
Jadi endingnya itu si Jasmine bukanlah anak dari Elias dan Francess melainkan anak dari adik angkat Elias. Selama ini si Connor, yang merupakan kakak tiri dari Fin (suami dari Sam yang adalah adiknya si Jasmine) sudah tahu kalo Jasmine bukan anak kandung dari Elias dan Francess, Connor juga tahu kalo ibu kandung Jasmine adalah bibinya sendiri karena wanita itu menceritakan lansung kepada Connor. Di ending inilah Connor menceritakan bahwa dia sudah mengenal ibu kandung Jasmine kurang lebih 3 tahun lamanya, tepat pertama kali Connor bertemu dengan Jasmine. Tapi sama sekali tidak ada alur yang mengarahkan kesana, Connor hanya menyiratkan perbedaan warna rambut antara Jasmine dan ketiga adiknya. Pengarang tidak pernah menyiratkan bahwa Connor tahu pasti kalo Jasmine bukan anak kandung, malah gw pikir si Connor hanya berasumsi,,bener2 berasumsi doang.
Yah,,tp epilognya lumayan. Gw juga kurang suka dengan karakter Jasmine..terlalu over dalam menilai sesuatu. seolah2 semuanya itu punya niat jahat. Tetapi sepertinya 3 HQ australia yg gw baca minggu ini semua karakter cewenya itu terlalu gampang curiga..mulai dari si Cory (istri impian sang millioner-helen brooks), trus karakter si Jasmine dan karakter Jean (Pria terbaik utk Jean-Shawna Delacorte),,mungkin karakter khas dari negeri sebrang kali yah,,hihihihi

De vez en cuando pasa que uno necesita de un libro de lectura ligera,pero no por eso poco atractivo! Si eso ocurre,este libro es para situaciones asi!
Con personajes con un pasado complejo unidos por la fuerza del destino en un amor fuerte y altamente sexual! Y aun cuando se "odian" no pueden vivir separados y necesitan del otro para afrontar sus demonios.
Y es asi que sin pensarlo terminas derramando lagrimas sin siquiera haberlo deseado...
Me encanta leer novelas asi! Que te ponen la piel de gallina con el amor de sus protas, y te demuestran que el amor es cliche,previsible,imprevisible,posible,imposible...en fin... Es el amor! Y no hay una palabra para describirlo...
Novelas frescas,ligeras y que te emocionan...a pesar de ser tan predecibles! Connan es el playboy perfecto! Quien otro te acompañaria de la forma en que el lo hace? Y solo por verla feliz a ella! Eso es algo digno de amar...

For a Harlequin Romance novel, the plot was pretty predictable, but I'm a sucker for standard romance stories.
While the idea of being forced into marriage because of circumstance is basically unheard of these days, the main character Jasmine, was very good. I absolutely loved her stubborn personality and how she was willing to cross lines just to upset her parents. Some people say immature, I say BA.
Conner on the other hand was somewhat a mystery, in a good way. Jasmine's perspective of him is horrible from the start but over time I came to love his sense of humor.
Overall, this is a great quick read and almost a no-brainer, sometimes it's nice to be able to read a book so effortlessly without having to think. It can be a nice break from all of those textbooks I read for school.

بدا الامر كانها ارتكبت غلطة شنيعة مع انه لم يحصل بينهما شيء........ وما ان خرجت من غرفة كونور في الفندق حتى واجهتها عدسات التصوير والصحفيون ........... وكانت الفضيحة !
اصر كونور على ان يتزوجا , وادركت ياسمين بانها ستخسر سمعتها وعائلتها اذا لم توافق على هذا الزواج .
لكن كونور كان يفكر بابعد من زواج شكلي

Awal cerita sih lumayan suka. Love n hate gitu lah, tapi ujungnya gagal paham. Napa jd mslh silsilah keluarga, sih?

Ini novel tahun berapa yak, sepertinya belum ada handphone (si Jasmine sering menggantung gagang telepon kalau lagi bete ama seseorang). Si Jasmine ini marah2 melulu kayak cewek lagi pms, untung Connor-nya sabar padahal Connor bisa saja memilih cewek yang lain untuk bisa mendapatkan warisan yang ditinggalkan ibunya. Tapi tenyata bukan warisan alasan Connor menikah, mengetahui hal itu dari adiknya Jasmine langsung marah ke ubun2, please deh kenapa bawaannya marah & suudzon melulu, sekali2 pakai logika & mendengar penjelasan Connor.
