The front cover of this book states in red bold letters: “LEAVE MATH ANXIETY BEHIND FOREVER.” The promise that this book makes actually turns out to be true. The depth into which each mathematical topic is covered is excellent. The book includes all key math areas, divided into 2 parts- Arithmetic and Algebra. The 1st part covers all the basic math concepts from probability to equations to graphing! I highly recommend it for students who are having trouble with basic operations in math, or just need to practice their proficiency in certain topics. The 2nd part is perfect for high school students who need help, or just need to brush up their memory on Algebra.

Each chapter of the book focuses on a math topic. And each section in a chapter introduces more specific topics. Each sections begins with an introduction and a written description of the subject. It is followed by examples pertaining to the description. All key definitions and rules are written in grey boxes. After some examples, there are exercises to do. At the end of every chapter, there is a vocabulary list, a summary of all the sections, and a chapter review. The answers of the exercises and reviews are at the end of the book. This is really helpful because it can be great practice for a test.

This book has a chapter solely for word problems. These word problems take on a real-world approach that help apply math. I would really recommend this book to middle school and high school students to brush up their basic math skills and apply it to more complicated problems. Not only does it introduce basic skills, but also new strategies to break through math anxieties, and tougher math skills, such as banking, statistics, and operations using graphing calculators.

Personally, I think this book is really helpful. However, I would have preferred more of a “wow factor” in the way it’s presented. The text and figures are all in black and white, and it does not look very appealing. I think more people would read it if it was written in colorful and bigger text. The small text and the grey pictures may make people think this is another “boring math textbook”. Nonetheless, the actual descriptions are easily comprehensible and well-explained.
