This is an excellent adaptation on the book by Victor Hugo. Mabel Dodge Holmes does a fantastic job of rewriting this book with all the important details, and her adaptation allows the reader to not get bogged down in all the historical text of the original. I love this story. Jean Valjean is an amazing upright person. What a great man and extraordinary model for doing right! is Jean Valjean. My favorite character though, has always been the Bishop. Without the Bishop who knows what would have become of Prisoner 24601 (Jean Valjean). The Bishop’s generous act of kindness changed had a profound impact on Jean Valjean thus leading to many others lives being positively touched and transformed.
