Say I Do #2

Sincerely, The Duke

Rate this book
Sincerely, The Duke is the second novel in the historical romance Say I Do trilogy about dukes needing to wed to tap into their wealth by New York Times bestselling author Amelia Grey.

Miss Edwina Fine has one shot at finding a husband before the ton learns her secret. With red hair, green eyes and being one of triplets, she knows the superstitions and rumors about women like her. So when a marriage proposal from the Duke of Stonerick arrives by mail, Edwina jumps at the chance to solve her problems. But nothing could prepare her for the attraction that sparks between them when they finally meet. It will take more than Edwina’s wit to navigate her past, reservations about marriage and the passion that ignites within her for the irresistible duke.

Rick, Duke of Stonerick, enjoys his life exactly as it honing his expert marksmanship, playing cards and fencing with his friends. He even enjoys exchanging affectionate humor with his mother about his lack of matrimonial engagement. But when a recurring illness reminds Rick he has no heir, he picks a name from the list of prospects his mother presents and writes a simple marriage proposal. Then he forgets about it—until that very lady with an iron will and breathtaking bravery shows up at his doorstep, ready to accept. Edwina tempts him like no other and suddenly, marriage doesn’t seem much of an inconvenience after all. But will keeping his illness a secret cost him her love?

This is an entertaining, well-written, historical romance novel. It has a likable and engaging female protagonist, an endearing, kind and caring male protagonist, a touch of humor, superstitions, secrets, a heart warming romance, and a happily ever after ending. The author's notes are interesting and informative, and the book quotes at the beginning of each chapter are a nice touch. This is the second entry in Ms. Grey's outstanding Say I Do series, and it can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone. I am looking forward to reading the next entry with great anticipation. St. Martin's Press, Amelia Grey, and NetGalley kindly provided me with an ARC of this wonderful novel, and this is my honest opinion.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for access to this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

Okay, I have been stalking NETGALLEY all year since reading Book 1 of this series. Yours Truly, The Duke was a 5-star read for me in 2023 and I couldn't wait to dive back into the series. I loved Sincerely, The Duke and read it in one sitting but the last few chapters rushed too fast to a conclusion.

It is 1820 and another Season is upon the London ton. Bowing under pressure from a well-intentioned mother, Rick, Duke of Stonerick chooses a random name from the list of potential brides and pens a ridiculous marriage proposal. With no intention of actually mailing the letter, Rick quickly forgets about it and moves on. Except that the letter is mailed and finds Miss Edwina Fine and her aunt rushing to meet the Duke. Instant attraction is clear when these two protagonists meet but Edwina has a proposal of her own. She will only accept the Duke of Stonerick's proposal if he also promises to find husbands for her two unwed sisters. Little does the Duke know that his young bride hasn't told him everything. Will scandal mark the season?

This was a fun read. I was glad to see some of the familiar characters from book 1 return as well as meeting a whole new cast of characters. Every scene with Edwina and Rick was my favorite and I enjoyed how their marriage of convenience blossomed into a passionate romance. One of my quibbles is that I loved both of her sisters and would have loved them each to have their book. Maybe in the future?

If you are looking for a new romance series, I would 1000% recommend this one( Say I Do)

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Readability: 📖📖📖📖
Feels: 🦋🦋🦋
Emotional Depth: 💔💔💔💔
Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡
Romance: 💞💞💞
Sensuality: 💋💋 (there was some light emotional pull but ultimately the one scene is just too short and vague to really have enough of what I prefer)
Sex Scene Length: 🍑 (it’s one vague paragraph)
Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥
Humor: Yes
Perspective: third person from both the hero and heroine
More character focused or plot focused? character
How did the speed of the story feel? medium
When mains are first on page together: Not too far in, about 4% or chapter 2
Cliffhanger: No, this ends with a happily ever after
Epilogue: Yes, at least a few years in the future
Format: voluntarily read an advanced reader copy through NetGalley in e-book form that I am about 9 months late on (oopsie!)
Why I chose this book: I am always attracted to Grey’s covers
Mains: This is a M/F relationship between a cishet hero and heroine
(Descriptions found at end of my review)

Should I read in order?
This is book 2 of Grey’s Say I Do series and I found it readable alone!

Basic plot:
Rick has no recollection of proposing through letter to a Miss Fine until she shows up on his doorstep, demanding he follow through

Give this a try if you want:
- Regency (my assumption)
- Duke hero
- heroine is a triplet
- some secret keeping
- marriage of convenience vibes
- low steam – 1 open door scene without details

Ages:
- hero is ‘nearing 30’ and I think the heroine is around 20

First line:
“She had a son.”

My thoughts:
I really liked some elements of this book! But ultimately it didn’t work the best for me. I loved the idea of the proposal and really the whole theme for this series.

I enjoyed the heroine – she’s protective and sweet and didn’t have a problem with coming to bargain with and claim the Duke that proposed to her randomly through letter. But as the story went on, I never really loved the hero. I found him rather irritating and didn’t like his reactions to things. He seemed short and impatient with the heroine and while she does call him out on it, I just felt like she deserved better.

The whole triplet’s plot was interesting but I felt a bit weird for the high drama it caused?? I just wasn’t expecting the hero’s reaction over it.

Grey writes lower steam, but I do like how she incorporates tension and kisses in her stories. I am usually left wanting more from her though in this regard.

Few random reading stats for this author

Sincerely, The Duke was an enjoyable read featuring a romance between a duke and a woman hiding a secret from the world.

Miss Edwina Fine has one chance to find a husband before the ton finds out the secret she's been hiding about her and her sisters. When she receives a marriage proposal from the Duke of Stonerick by mail, Edwina knows this is the answer to her prayers. Rick enjoys his life exactly as it is but after a recurring illness returns, it reminds Rick that he has no heir and needs to marry. With pressure from his mother, Rick picks a name from a list she presents and sends out a simple proposal before promptly forgetting about it. But when Edwina arrives on his doorstep, Rick is captivated by her boldness and suddenly marriage doesn't seem like such a bad thing.

The premise of this series, sending out marriage proposals by mail, is such a fun one and like the first book, I really enjoyed enjoyed how it plays out in this book. Sincerely, The Duke opens with Rick visiting his mother who is lamenting the fact Rick isn't married and doesn't have children while his cousin does. Rick's exasperation with his mother was amusing and I loved how it led to him choosing a random name from a list and sending out a marriage proposal to a woman he had never met. When Edwina arrives, Rick had entirely forgotten what happened and it was a great first meeting between the two.

I liked Edwina and Rick together and thought the connection that formed between them was great. Edwina is outspoken and Rick really likes that about her which I loved. Their relationship progresses pretty quickly and there's a scene at the start of their marriage that was hilarious which set the tone for a number of their interactions. One thing I didn't really love about their romance is that they both keep things from each other initially. Edwina hides the fact she is a triplet for so long and Rick keeps his recurring illness hidden from Edwina. There's also a ton of superstitious nonsense in the book centered around Edwina's character which got old pretty quickly. Aside from those two issues, I did like the pair's romance and thought it developed nicely over the course of the book.

Overall Sincerely, The Duke was a great read and I'm looking forward to picking up the next book in the series, Love, The Duke, when it releases next year.

Red headed triplets! Shall the ton be shocked?

An interesting plot. Three sisters, triplets, all with red hair and green eyes. The eldest, Edwin, had promised her dying her father to have her sisters introduced to society and married.
Meanwhile up in London, Roderick Cosworth, the Duke of Stonerick, (Rick to his friends) promises his mother to finally marry and beget an heir. He chooses a name from his mother’s list of eligible parties. Yes, one Edwina Fine. The duke who’s nearly insensible with a fever on this occasion totters off and forgets all about that decision.
That is, until his peace and quiet is shattered by a disturbance in the entryway between a feisty red headed lady and his butler.
It’s his intended Fiona, paying a call to see if the offer is a hoax or true.
Rick as you can imagine has forgotten all about what happened with his mother. What with having been struck down by this mysterious recurring fever for a time. Looking at the note Edwina produces he recognizes his writing, and after some thought, declares it’s all above board.
Edwina informs him of her stipulations for the marriage. She wants her two sisters to attend the coming London season. She neglects to say they are triplets. (Due to fears about superstitions and rumours that infect society’s thinking)
The Dowager Duchess has been reading about the veracity of superstitions (all very negative) at her ladies meeting. She’s perturbed enough about the red hair and green eyes. Triplets might be a step too far. That point is not mentioned.
It just seemed to me that what might have been an intriguing plot was sidetracked by inanities, Edwina’s over bearing stubbornness, and a disappointing chemistry between the two main characters. The zing just wasn’t there.
I actually like the Duke better than Edwina. I appreciated how he handled her sister Eileen, even though he was suffering the dratted fever that persisted, and Edwina thought he’d drunk too much brandy. I shake my head!!
Still Edwina and Rick resolve the challenges between them and move on to have their HEA.

Sincerely, The Duke is a page-turning and at times, laugh out loud Regency historical romance that will give readers what they want. Rick and Edwina have excellent chemistry described through sensual kisses and caresses, although this book is on the sweet side and not at all spicy. The secrets between them are dealt with beautifully, and the unfolding narrative shows how strong their emotional bond grows over the course of the book. Readers looking for a diverting Regency historical romance with endearing leads and excellent resolution of internal conflicts that avoids unpleasant narrative clichés will appreciate Sincerely, The Duke.

Series: Say I Do #2
Pages: 320

What can I say…Having read the first in this series, I found “Sincerely, The Duke” more enjoyable than the first. There are triplets, however Rick, the Duke of Sronerick finds himself proposing to one of the three, Miss Edwina Fine to satisfy his mother’s nagging and rethink his future without an heir due to his recurring illness.

Miss Fine receives a proposal by email and jumps at the chance, along with aunt in tow, arriving at the Rick’s estate to verify if the proposal received was a prank or for real. Rick clearly loves his carefree life, but when he sees the lovely red head with green eyes at his doorstep, and an attraction begins between the two. She is feisty, brave and outspoke…qualities that appeal to his manhood. They both agree to a marriage of convenience; however, Edwina is holding back a secret, well pretty much a superstition related to triplets with red hair and green eyes, that she believes could ruin her dying father’s wish…to see his three daughters married. On the other hand, Rick has his secret of hiding his recurring illness. Both MC’s have secrets to hide that will unfold as their relationship gradually builds.

I truly loved the hero/heroine of this story and how Ms. Grey developed each character on the pages. The main characters found time to get to know each other in the relationship and each scene was crafted to make you feel like you were in the story. Rick was a very good hero and I loved that he did not believe too much in superstitions and found them foolish unlike his mother. Edwina’s devotion to her father and sister was heartwarming. Although she was the youngest of the triplets, she stepped up to the plate to see that her siblings would find husbands with all their quirks.

Loved this historical romance and its characters. A well-written story and plot that had me turning the pages until the end. There is just enough of heated attraction that gets my approval of the amount of spicey in this HR. Well worth reading and highly recommend.

Miss. Edwina Fine only has one chance to find a husband before her family's secret is discovered by the Ton. Superstition is running rampant, and there are significant rumors surrounding the nature of women in possession of red hair and green eyes. To complicate matters, Edwina is not just a green-eyed, red-headed, but one of three identical triplet sisters. This is practically unheard of in Regency England and is highly suspect. She cannot disguise her very distinguishing features, but Edwina hopes to secure a match before the truth of her unusual birth is uncovered. Her prayers are answered in a shocking way when a proposal from the Duke of Stonerick arrives in the post. Edwina has no acquaintance with the Duke and has significant doubts as to the offer's sincerity, but on the slim chance that the Duke was in earnest, she cannot let the opportunity pass her by

Rick, the aforementioned Duke of Stonerick, enjoys his life of leisure. After the resurgence of a recurrent illness, Rick has a serious realization about his own mortality. His health is weakened, and he has no heir. This realization prompts him to, in a moment of great impulsivity, select a random name from his enthusiastic mother's list of suitable prospective brides. He scribbles out a written proposal before promptly forgetting about what he had done. It's his assumption that the letter was never sent, trusting his mother to know that his impulsive actions were not in earnest.

That night remains forgotten - until the very real Miss. Edwina Fine turns up on his doorstep. The brave and stubborn girl presents him with the letter she has received and makes it very clear she intends to accept his proposal.

This was a unique reading experience as a woman with green eyes and red hair. I'm sadly not a triplet, though. There was a lot that I really liked about this story. Both Rick and Edwina are determined to keep their secrets from the other. This resulted in a back-and-forth dance as they navigate their marriage of convenience while still determined to keep the other in the dark for as long as possible.

*small spoilers:

Rick's relationship with his sisters-in-law was very entertaining, and his task of finding them suitable matches provided some humorous moments. This plot was in many ways verging on silly, but amongst the sillier moments, there were very sweet and romantic interludes. Rdwina was a very determined young lady, but a lot of her worldview is clouded in naivety. The actual relationship between Rick and Edwina was built on an intense instant attraction that deepens as they get to know each other on a deeper level.

Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review!

After not feeling well and being harassed again by his mother, Rick finds himself proposing-by letter-to someone he’s never met. Enter Edwina, who decides to accept his proposal. She also just happens to be a triplet—which was incredibly rare for that time, & came with unbelievable superstitions about that, so she keeps it a secret. Rick also keeps his illness a secret. Do we see the conflicts that are going to happen? I liked the characters the best…..the story itself was ok, the conflicts seemed kind of silly to me, but liking the characters made up for it.

This was definitely a big miss for me and if I'm truly honest, I have no idea why I did not DNF the book. I somehow kept thinking this would turn over at some point and by the time I realized it would most definitely not, I was 80% in and well, I just didn't want to stop there after all that (like running a marathon and you have to go through those last few miles).

Anyways. Let's get to it. I really enjoyed the premise of this book and found our characters quite interesting at first. But somehow, I feel like I didn't really get to know much more about them throughout my read. It was like the only info about them was that Edwina was a triplet and Rick was battling some sort of malaria (at least I suspected that). And the book went on with that info and that was about it for most of it.

The relationship between Edwina & Rick was one of my least favourite... I read man with red flags all year, but somehow Rick was waving all the wrong red flags for me. I really hated how he treated our FMC and he was so impatient all the time and it made me quite angry. But then, our FMC couldn't trust anyone and instead of talking she just kept hiding things. So really, their relationship made no sense to me. I cannot see how they truly developed feelings while acting like this. They clearly didn't trust one another and always took decisions by themselves, keeping everything a secret, because oh wow secrets are not lies. They never talked about things that mattered except when forced and this whole book was them arguing over and over and over. Talk about something that does not make me dream at all... And it went on until the very very end.

Also, I know that miscommunication is something I hate but let me tell you something I discovered I hate even more... miscommunication in bed. This couple intimate moments just down right made me feel bad... I hated the MMC inner thoughts (could have punched him) and didn't enjoy how they went about it all, because he was clearly frustrated and Edwina felt like she did something wrong and like come on people... Once again, just not for me, it all felt so cringey. And also, I really thought this book would have some spice but other than some awkward kisses and one scene where it is mentioned they actually did it (without more) it was about it. I don't NEED spice in a book, I'm actually complaining when there is too much of it, but I just felt a little misled by the fact that the "doing it" was the biggest part of the plot for quite a while... that's all. Honest mistake.

The side characters felt a little bit like strangers, even the sisters didn't get enough of a part in my opinion. I did not remember this book was actually part of a series until the end and I would not be able to tell who is a main character in that series honestly. Also, I was hoping that the sidestory with the guy that was a good shot (remembering name is sadly not one of my talents) would be more than that. He came in like he had a whole plan and kept appearing and being so suspicious I kind of expected a plot twist.

So really, this book was sadly full of disappointments for me.

Ooff! This is a new to me author so to make sure I gave it a fair review, I read the previous book in this series before I started on this one. I have to say that I preferred the first book a whole lot more than this one. Ultimately, I dont think I am a fan of this author's writings, nor her characters.

Summary: Rick (Duke number two in the series) experiences intermitted fevers and is now worried he may die before producing an heir, so while out of his mind with a fever he picks a name from a list of young ladies and send her a proposal. Edwina needs to marry to secure the future of her sisters and to fulfill her vow to her father. They obviously hit it off but wont tell each other their big "secret". His secret is that he gets fevers and hers is that she's a triplet!

It was all ridiculous! The big shocker is that she is a red head with green eyes! People are suspicious of them and instead of the Duke saying 'F this' and telling people the truth that she's a red-headed triplet, he covers it up! Emphasizing that yes, this concept of red heads and triplets are scary so lets not talk about it.

Both characters were frustrating and there was little I liked about it. I'm sorry to say I won't be reading any more from this author.

Thank you #NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest (obviously) opinion.

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.

This is the second book in the Say I Do series, and in this Rick, the Duke of Stonerick came into his dukedom quite young, and has been pestered by his mother to marry and provide an heir quite vigorously, being very concerned and mindful of the securement and continuity of his line, since he is an only child. Added pressure recently has come about after she receives news that Rick's younger cousin, who had recently wed, had just welcomed the birth of a son. Not only is Rick feeling pressure from his concerned, and loving mother, but he has been having intermittently bouts of illness in the form of severe fevers. It is shortly after a bout of one of these fevers that he visits his mother and is confronted by a list of potential brides. Likely not thinking clearly, but wanting to either appease her or humour her, Rick dashes off a brief written proposal off the first name to catch his attention on the list. Addressed to one Miss Edwina Fine.

Next thing he knows, his home is invaded and a hubbub ensues at his home one day, as his stalwart majordomo tries to quell the brash and unexpected entry of an unknown young woman and her chaperone, who are insistent on speaking to the Duke of Stonerick. He is intrigued by the brazen bravado of the woman and meets with her. It is one Miss Edwina Fine, coming to find out if the proposal she has received at her home in York and she travelled to London, with her aunt to confront the Duke about the veracity of the proposal.

It would be the solution to her problems if that were the case as she has vowed to her recently deceased father that she would seek marriages for herself and her two sisters within a season, and their newly appointed guardian has no plans of having them on his hands beyond the one Season coming up. If she was to marry the Duke that would help give her more entree in Society to seek good spouses for her sisters. The Duke is initially stunned, thinking his rashly written note was tossed in the fire. But he is intrigued by Edwina and her bold proposition and stands by the proposal.

Despite proceeding with the nuptials and Rick promising to take care of the sisters if Edwina brings them to London, Edwina and Rick are not open with each other. Afterall, they are essentially strangers despite marrying, and having a strong attraction and desire for each other. Edwina, having grown up frequently warned about prejudices and superstitions by her father, is one of a set of triplets, and all of them are red headed with green eyes. As we find out from Rick's mother, the Dowager Duchess, there persists to be superstitious nonsense perpetrated about such things, and when Edwina gets hints that those in their social circle may carry those superstitions, she fails to trust Rick and share her family history and circumstances with him. Rick, likewise, fails to share the concerns about his fevers and health with Edwina, and the ghost of her father and her vow stands between Rick and Edwina, and for that matter Edwina and her sisters frequently throughout the story.

This was a cute love story, about a sudden, rash marriage between two strangers who make it work in the end. While I cannot swallow the superstitions related in this story, I can believe there are those back then who did believe in them. I liked the characters of Edwina and Rick. He may have been a bit of a high handed rake, but generally likeable, trying to reassure Edwina after their failed wedding night, and being patient with her. But then he was also quite hypocritical when he was upset and upbraiding her about lack of trust in him, while failing to open up about his health concerns as well. Edwina seemed to be very fixated on her vow to her father, to the point where she actually failed to even speak to her sisters and consider their own wants and desires for their own futures; she definitely had blinders on, and it was actually Rick who showed greater leeway and respect for that, especially with the stargazing Eileen. However, I felt that his mother, the Dowager, needed to her superstitions and her connection to that rather hinky sounding social club she belongs to addressed more definitively by both Edwina and Rick - especially if she were to start trying to spout off those beliefs etc to Society, or their children.

Also, what happened with Elleonora and the courtship with Rick's newest sporting and social nemesis, the young, cocky Matthew Malcolm? That seemed to cut off rather suddenly.

Anyways, a lower drama romance, with an interesting premise and hidden secrets, with more sweetness and closed door steam. There are familiar characters as well as Wyatt and Fredericka make appearances as well (from Book 1)

I was extremely fortunate to receive an ARC of Sincerely, The Duke written by the amazing Amelia Grey via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is the second book in the Say I Do series and can be read as a stand alone. Roderick Cosworth, the Duke of Stonerick, has determined to marry by running his finger along a list of potential brides given to him by his mother. He has a fear of not begetting an heir fast enough before his dilapidating fevers consume him
Edwina Fine is in shock when she receives a proposal by mail from a Duke. She decides to follow through so she can also fulfill her father's dying wish. The story develops beautifully as both Rick and Edwina start of their marriage as an act of convenience but with some magnetic attraction. They learn about each other's likes and good qualities, but keep some secrets hidden that become an obstacle to their romance. Another great story!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this advanced copy from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I was drawn in by the unique premise of Sincerely, The Duke. A proposal through an epistle is so romantic and rather funny when the duke doesn't realize his mother sent it on his behalf. These characters had tons of potential, but it wasn't fully utilized. There was a lot of inner monologue and not enough dialogue between the main couple. Their thoughts were full of indecision, but they barely said any words to each other. This was a very sleepy romance and the epitome of a slow burn. Things didn't heat up until the 90% mark, but everyone moves at different paces. I can understand the reason for the slowness, but goodness I swear Edwina was part snail!

#Snail from Grettings Starfighter

Another element I enjoyed but didn't meet my expectations were Edwina's siblings. She was a triplet and looking for potential grooms to pair with her sisters. Unfortunately, her triplets were very aggressive and it was evident why they had difficulty finding matches. They also interrupted at the most inopportune times, which frustrated me as a reader. They thought their red hair and multiple birth status were heralded as bad luck too. They were strange characters, but at least they brought something unique to the stories. I don't believe I'll continue with this author, but I'm always grateful for discovering new authors. I'll add a return to sender stamp to any future letters signed Sincerely, The Duke.

The red-headed, green-eyed triplets that stoked up some superstitions and prejudices just by existing made for a fun and intriguing plot device.

I loved the Duke’s no-nonsense proposal (that he also promptly forgot about) and Edwina’s presumptuous appearance in his life. Rick was a very likeable character. He exhibited a quiet stoicism about going through with the wedding, but not in a resentful way. He was more than willing to accommodate Edwina’s wishes and to ensure his future sisters-in-law’s happiness.

I liked the story just fine. But Edwina very stubbornly stuck to her promise to her father and continually ignored her sisters’ own desires. Every time it seemed that she might soften her attitude a little bit, something happened to further cement this idea in her mind.

This is the second book in the Say I Do series. I haven’t read the first one yet, and this one worked very well on its own.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Rick, Duke of Stonerick needs an heir. When his mother presents him with a list of viable women that will be new to the season. He drunkenly chooses one and writes a proposal. He is more than surprised when Miss Edwina Fine arrives at his home the following week to accept his offer. She has some conditions of her own, including helping her two sisters find husbands. Rick feels up to the job. Turns out they are triplets, which causes concern for the superstitious.

First, I want to commend St. Martin’s books for the beautiful cover. This is the second in the Say I Do series, and both times it was the covers that caught my attention. The story is perfectly fine for a historical romance. Some of the humor comes from her being very naive. She takes advice from the maid for the wedding night to lay there and endure. The idea of the rarity of triplets is interesting. And I like the appearance of the previous couple in the series as friends of the Duke. But after two books by Grey I think her writing style is not for me. I prefer stronger heroines and more descriptive, less flowery wording in intimate situations. Also the Duke is already forgettable as nothing unique stands out to me about him. Grey is an established author so I think this is a personal preference issue and shouldn’t keep others from enjoying her books and writing style.

**I was provided this book as an e-ARC. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this story and provide my honest opinion on it.**

I really enjoyed this book. I have been missing Bridgerton and my other period pieces and this story filled that gap for me. It was a slower paced read which was a pleasant change from what I typically read. Our female protagonist Edwina is a strong, fiery, yet still "polite" character who toes the line between doing what is expected of a demure lady in society and a well-educated and outspoken woman. As the story progressed I found myself excited to turn the page and see "which" Edwina was going to be the one responding to the various events. I find that most stories of this nature see the male protagonist (especially if from a higher class than the female) trying to browbeat the woman into fitting the appropriate mold and that did not happen here. Rick embraced who Edwina was from the beginning and it was fun to observe their interactions develop.

I will say that I wish a little more had been put into the resolution at the end when Edwina's primary goal seems to have been all-but abandoned. With her being as strong of a female character as she was, I found the resolution to be a little lacking and not in line with her personality. Other than that, I truly enjoyed this story and would read more by this author.

Sincerely, The Duke

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh boy Oh boy, this was such great book! Can’t say enough about it!!

Rick, Duke of Stonerick, enjoys his life exactly as it is: honing his expert marksmanship, playing cards and fencing with his friends. Edwina tempts him like no other and suddenly, marriage

I liked this more than the first, maybe because I liked the characters a little more.
Roderick "Rick" Cosworth, the Duke of Stonerick has debilitating fevers and is afraid he may die young. His cousin and heir has a new baby, so the Dowager Duchess is insisting he marry. Rick says fine, show me your list and I will pick a bride. Edwina Fine is the pick. So he writes a letter, Dear Miss Fine, will you marry me, Sincerely, the Duke.
The following week, letter in hand, Edwina comes to London and shows up at his door. There is a very funny scene where the butler tries to push her out the door along with her twittering aunt, and finally, the Duke comes out to see what the kerfuffle is.
It is indeed the letter, which he thought he threw in the fire, but apparently he threw the list instead, and his mother's secretary mailed it.
Edwin has a condition for the marriage. She promised her dying father she would see her 2 sisters wed also.
What no one knows are the sisters are infamous triplets, unheard of at the time. After her mother died in childbirth, the father took the babies to York, where they have lived for 20 years. She does not tell him she is a triplet and he does not tell her about the fevers.
Ironically, when the sisters finally come to town, no one comments, they just think they look a lot alike, especially since they have red hair and green eyes, which sets hi mother all a tizzy, because they could be evil witches.
However, Rick can easily tell them a part, so it seems like true love to me.
Ironically, the sisters don't want to marry. One wants to become an astronomer and keeps trying to meet the Heschels, famous brother and sister astronomers. (Coincidentally, I just finished the Diamond of London by Penrose about Lady Hestor Stanhope and the Heschels show up in that book as well . Regency London society was relatively small).
The love that grows between the characters is slow and steady, and I look forward to seeing them again in the next book, which will be about Hurst, the 3rd Duke. I also hope to find out what happens to the sisters.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the EARC. Amelia Grey is one of my favorites, and I was thrilled to give my honest review.

Edwina Fine is a triplet who needs to marry to fulfill her father's dying wish, and Rick, Duke of Stonerick, needs to marry and have an heir so his mother will leave him alone. When Edwina receives a marriage proposal in the mail from the Duke, she readily accepts - and the Duke is all too willing to marry the red haired, green eyed beauty that shows up to accept his marriage proposal (that he didn't remember sending).

The main characters are well-written and likable. They're both headstrong, but not in opposition to one another (ideal for a romance). Their stalwart traits lets them stand as a united front, and provides an ideal personality for a marriage of convenience. Both are keeping a secret, but the secret is known to the reader. The internal conflict about disclosing their secret to one another helps drive the plot.

This is the second book in a series but can be read as a stand alone.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for sending an eARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

This is the second book in the series about 3 boyhood friends, all now Dukes. The first book was about Wyatt, the Duke of Wyatthaven, who needed to marry quickly, had his solicitor find a suitable bride who needed a husband for protection and sends her a short worded marriage proposal. It ended up a love match. Now Roderick (Rick) Cosworth, the Duke of Stonerick, finds himself in a similar predicament. He is suffering from an illness, severe fever and chills, which sounds to me like malaria, but how he would get it in London was never made clear. He needs a heir, so puts his finger on a list provided by his mother and sends a short note (Dear Miss Edwina Fine, Will you marry me? Sincerely, the Duke) much as Wyatt had done. Edwina is in need of a husband. She promised her father on his deathbed, that she would see her sisters and herself married by the end of the season. She is beautiful and witty, but secretly one of three green eyed, redhead triplets, who have been hidden away from society, because of foolish superstition and that their mother had died, shortly after their birth. Edwina comes to his home to verify that it was a true proposal and not a prank. She accepts with one condition, Rick must find husbands for her sisters, not so easy, since neither wants to marry. There is mutual attraction from when their eyes first meet, but they are both keeping secret from the other, because they both learned at a young age not to trust.

I have enjoyed ever book that I have read from Amelia Grey, and this series doesn't disappoint. I am eager to read Hurst's story next, since he was the only one of the friends that had been eager to marry. There are lovely detailed descriptions about the setting, wonderful, likable characters with definite personalities, lively banter and an interesting plot.

This is the second book in the Say I Do trilogy, and was really curious about it after reading and enjoying Yours Truly, the Duke last year. This story follows Edwina, who makes a deathbed promise to her father and enters into a marriage of convenience upon receiving a handwritten proposal from a duke. Rick, Duke of Stonerick, has an unusual illness and needs an heir as soon as possible, which is why he chose a random woman from his mother's list of eligible females and proposed.

As soon as Rick meets Edwina, he is enchanted by her. She is bold and certain, and he admires her gumption. Edwina is also smitten, and this insta-love works considering they're quickly arranging to be married. I liked both characters and understood their motivations. Both keep important information about themselves from each other, and those secrets and the miscommunication that follows make sense considering the trust issues both have. Sometimes the way Rick spoke to Edwina bothered me, but overall I thought they had a chemistry-filled and romantic love story.

I thought the exploration of superstitions of the time was really interesting. I didn't know the superstitions surrounding triplets, especially those with red hair and green eyes. Edwina and her sisters have lived a remote life because of society's prejudice, and it does cause some issues for the characters. I also liked the bond between Edwina and her sisters. They are all so different, and as a unit, they're a delight.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

Roderick Cosworth, the Duke of Stonerick, Rick, raised by his mother since his father's died when he wad a baby, Alberta Fellows Cosworth, Dowager Duchess of Stonerick. His friendsWyatt, the Duke of Wyatthaven, and Hurst, the Duke of Hurstbourne are in a shooting club together and have been friends since Aaron School.

Miss Edwina Fine. Youngest of the sisters, Eleonora loves poetry, and Eileen who has a scientific mind, their aunt Mrs. Pauline Castleton. Cousin, Viscount Quintingham, is theirguardian, wants to wash his hands of the three.

Getting pressure from his mother to marry, now that his cousin heir presumptive is married and has a son, gives him a list of eligible ladies to select from. During one of his fevers, he goes down the list and selects one. Liking her name, he hits a note; "Please marry me." And signs it. Somehow it gets mailed.

A lady shows up at his home determined not to leave until she speaks with him. Intrigued, Stonerick steps closer and is shocked he likes the lady. After talking and the letter is revealed, they agree to marry, with CONDITIONS on both sides.

After making a promise to her father on his deathbed, he also tells her way it is her to do this last request. Stonerick, on the other hand, wants an heir in case the fever returns and he dies. With omissions on both sides, married life takes time in adjusting.

With a superstitions mother, three stubborn women with red hair and green eyes, fevers for no reason, and secrets, this books keeps you hoppin! So come join the frolicking wedding, see who puts two and two together, mom's reaction, and Stonerick lose a shooting match!

Roderick “Rick” Cosworth, the Duke of Stonerick, co-runs a sporting club that donates its proceeds to charitable organizations. A re-occurring fever reminds him of his mortality and his obligations to his dukedom. Rick randomly chooses a bride from a list of candidates his mother drafted. He promises to help Edwina find suitable husbands for her sisters in exchange for an heir. Rick suspects she is withholding something from him. Will Rick learn Edwina’s secrets? And can he trust her with the truth about his health?

Miss Edwina Fine promises her late father she will find husbands for herself and her sisters. Fate answers her prayers. She receives a marriage proposal from a wealthy duke through the mail. Rick is nothing than what Edwina expected. She hopes he nor the Ton learn about her being a triplet. Can Edwina trust Rick with the secret of her birth? Or will she learn that all her fears and reservations are groundless? And can Edwina keep her deathbed promise to her father?

Rick is a man after my own heart. There are times, and moments, when I too have trouble tolerating people. Plus, I am not a fan of large crowds (just ask my husband during holiday shopping). So, I related with him on that score. What I adore the most about Rick is how he does not put stock in superstitions. He finds most of them laughable or foolish.

Edwina took me a while to warm up too. I can understand her trepidation about being a triplet. She grew up in a time when multiple births (more than two) were rare. They did happen but scarcely did the babes survive. Edwina was taught from a young age to fear people learning about her birth. What I like the most about Edwina is her devotion to completing her father’s deathbed wish. Some people would humor the dead. She took it seriously, to the point she disregarded her sisters’ desires.

SINCERELY, THE DUKE is the second book in Amelia Grey’s historical romance series, SAY I DO. The story can easily stand alone. However, the first book (YOURS TRULY, THE DUKE) explains the reasons behind the sports club Rick and his two ducal friends co-founded. Wyatt and Fredericka, the couple from the prior story, do make a small appearance. I like how the author does not boggle the story or its pacing down with unnecessary sex scenes. The only such scene is not steamy, spicy nor long. Sometimes I feel authors go over-the-top with such scenes.

I cannot wait for Hurst’s book! I wonder how the author plans to continue the letter complimentary closing theme with his book title. Also, I wonder if Eileen will get a book. I sense a story brewing there; one I would be interested in reading.

#2 in the Say I Do Regency romance series

This time we get to know Rick (Duke of Stonerick) much better. When he's is attacked by one of his fevers (now known as malaria), he gives in to his mother and chooses a name from her list to be his wife, writing her a brief "will you marry me" note. Edwina replies by showing up in person and accepting his proposal, along with his agreement to help her "older" sisters find husbands. Turns out she's a triplet (totally unheard of in that time period and superstitiously suspect by most people), something Rick wishes he's known in advance, although he's decided she's the woman for him no matter what. It's a quick start, but they get along well, and their relationship develops nicely if unbelievably fast. Most of the conflict arises from Edwina's insistence on finding husbands for her sisters (per her father's last wish), while Rick just wants peace and quiet in his home. I'll admit that he's much more patient than I would have been since Edwina is obsessed with forcing her father's will on everyone. But they get closer despite their differences. Most of the story is of their personal life with very little about her introduction into the ton and the reaction of society to her and her sisters except to say that they are well received. (I guess that's easier when the husband is a powerful duke.) This is a relatively quiet book that was very put-downable.

**Thank you to Amelia Grey, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for sending me an ARC of Sincerely, The Duke in exchange for an honest review!!**
I loved this book!! Honestly, Historical romances are a really hard area to nail and this book was perfect. There was just the right amount of explanation needed for context in the historical era. I really enjoyed the relationship between Rick and Edwina. Her reactions and fears are totally understandable when it comes to the naivete that she would have as a woman during that time period. I also really loved her sisters and hope there may be another book about at least one of her sisters! I enjoyed Rick mainly because of his no-nonsense attitude and I think others will enjoy him as well. I really liked the reasoning behind Rick getting her sisters to come to town and I liked the kind of slapstick feel this book had. I have already read the book before this in the series and I also really enjoyed that novel. I highly recommend this series and look forward to reading more books by this author!!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.

This is a solid historical romance, with the funniest proposal I have ever read. I really enjoy the concept of this series and I really liked these characters. But I wanted more, I wanted it to go deeper into these characters and to get more relationship depth. Like book one, but for the random unique conflict point (this time red hair and green eyes/ infamous triplets), this wouldn’t stand out amongst the historical romances I’ve read. That’s not a bad thing, it’s very much a typical historical romance, exactly the sort of book I think of when thinking of the genre. I think anyone who likes lighter historical romances will really enjoy this one.

I wasn’t a fan of the wedding night naiveté and subsequent miscommunication plotline, but that’s very much a personal taste thing. If you aren’t a fan of far too uniformed/misinformed virgin FMCs then be mindful of that. It all works out and everyone has a great time, but I was uncomfortable until it was all out in the open and resolved.

Sincerely, the Duke is the second book of the Say I Do series by Amelia Grey. I haven't yet read the first book, but this one worked well as a standalone. What I liked best about this book was that the plot was different than other historical romances I've read. Fate brought Edwina Fine and the Duke of Stonerick together. Edwina seeks a husband to fulfill a promise she made to her father before he died. And Rick needs a wife in order to have an heir. They each have a secret they don't immediately share with the other which brings up the matter of trust. I really liked the characters in this book. The author really brought them to life. It was interesting seeing how they changed throughout the book. I also enjoyed reading the Art of Being a Fine Gentlemen suggestions at the beginning of each chapter.

Roderick Cosworth, Duke of Stonerick, continues to have episodes of headaches and fevers. Maybe it's time he took a wife, he does need an heir, especially if next time he doesn't recover from his illness. But randomly picking one off a list is a little unusual. Did he really do that? Who mailed the letter with the proposal? Things get a little tense when Edwina Fine shows up at his house and demands to know if his proposal is real or a joke. Intrigued and attracted to the lady, Rick makes his decision and says yes. It's marriage, then courtship and did I mention she has two sisters that need husbands? What a rollercoaster romance! Very entertaining! Kissing and caressing.
