It’s been three years since the tragic Christmas Eve when CIA agent Alora DeSanto returned from a doctor’s appointment to find her husband dead and her Paris home destroyed by a terrorist firebomb. Still mourning her heavy loss, she seeks a new life for herself and her two young sons by accepting a job offer from her friend and fellow agent Janessa Rogers, who is engaged to marry Prince Garrett of Meridia. As Janessa’s personal assistant, Alora takes up residence in the royal chateau in Bellamo, where Prince Stefano is recovering from a possible assassination attempt and reeling from some life-shattering news of his own.
As their paths repeatedly cross, Alora and Stefano are surprised by a budding attraction that draws them together in friendship. But as their hesitant affection evolves into romance, royal secrets plunge them into plots of espionage and blackmail that threaten all they hold dear—including each other. And as enemies arise to crush the Meridia monarchy, Alora must confront the fears that destroyed her past before they destroy her future.

I got Royal Secrets for Mother's Day and I was really excited because I'd wanted to read this book since it came out. I apologize to all the other books on my TBR list because Royal Secrets went to the top of the list, as in, I started reading it immediately and ignored all the other books I'd been reading until Royal Secrets was done.
Royal Secrets is the sequel to Royal Target. In Royal Target we are introduced to the royal family of Meridia who needs the services of CIA agent Janessa Rogers to help foil a terrorist plot against them. I really loved that story because Janessa was a kick-butt girl who didn't back down in the face of danger. The only thing I didn't like about that book was the Prince's name was Prince Garrett. (I know, it's silly, but there was just something that seemed so out of place with that name.) In Royal Secrets Prince Garrett and Janessa are back, (and I won't tell you what they're doing because that would be considered a spoiler), but Janessa's friend Alora, who lost most of her family in a terrorist bombing, is coming to Meridia to be Janessa's assistant. (Okay, never mind, it says right on the back cover that Janessa and Garrett are planning their wedding. So don't blame me, blame the back copy people for giving away that little gem. Ha!)
Anyway, Alora and her two small sons arrive at the castle and it reminded me a bit of a CIA Cinderella story. Poor woman with no family goes to the castle and meets a prince. *swoon* I liked Prince Stefano's character a lot because he was so flawed. He's a bit arrogant and demanding, which I think anyone raised as the heir to the throne could be, yet he's got a soft side to him that is just as engaging. But in Royal Secrets he's recovering from an assassination attempt when he meets Alora and her boys and the plot thickens from there. (No spoilers, I promise!)
The main plot is that there is a group trying to overthrow the monarchy and Alora, Janessa, and the princes are working to stay alive and figure out who's behind it. I thought the plot was engaging and twisty enough to keep me turning pages. My only complaint (another silly one I'm afraid) was that there were a lot of names starting with the same letter that made it hard to keep characters straight sometimes (i.e. Paolo, Pedro, Patrice, Phillippe, etc.) (Meridia, Meridian, Merid) I know, I know, I shouldn't be so picky, and it's my fault for staying up into the wee hours of the morning to finish and my poor brain can no longer remember who is Paolo and who is Pedro. But the book is so good I had to finish, no matter who was who! :)
I am a big fan of Traci's books and I highly recommend her SEAL series if you want an edge of your seat romantic suspense. Royal Target and Royal Secrets are more of a fun romantic suspense, and I recommend them to anyone who wants a great afternoon read that turns into an early morning hours because I have to finish it right now read.

MY TAKE I listened to the audiobooks, and the narrator did a great job. I've learned to appreciate how he manages to make it clear which of the men (especially Stefano and Garrett) are speaking.
It's been several years since I read the first book in the series, the one where Garrett and Janessa fall in love. I wish the publisher would make that one into an audiobook too. I loved the first one, and this one has great heart.
I enjoyed watching Stefano fall in love with Alora but also her young sons. Having been a young widow myself, my heart went out to her at her loss--not only of her husband but his parents and her own. I liked how welcoming his parents were when it became obvious to them that Stefano was falling in love with her. Alora and Stefano have the ability to give each other what they lack--besides love.

In this LDS novel, religion plays an important part of the story. I wondered how Abramson would handle the whole marrying someone not of Alora's faith. Her situation is complicated in that she is already sealed to her first husband. While Janessa didn't choose to marry outside of her faith because Garrett converted on his own, that story would have ended differently if he had not--she would have walked away from the relationship. Alora's circumstances are different with her previous sealing. They've laid the groundwork for Stefano to choose the LDS Church for himself if he wants to, should the political situation changes.
Royal Secrets by Traci Hunter Abramson is a novel about royalty in a make believe small kingdom on the Mediterranean Sea. This book also includes an American woman, working for the CIA, who becomes engaged to one of the princes who changes his religion and becomes a Mormon as his fiancée is a Mormon. This novel is quite predictable, and as a result, I did not find it a good read. The religious conflicts some of the characters experience is interesting, but ultimately where the book is going is easily determined by the reader.
My rating: Book 2 in the Royal Series. Not sure why I keep reading these--maybe just entertaining enough to be relaxing.

A lora has a tragic past and two small sons. When her friend, Janessa, asks her to come and be her personal assistant, she jumps at the chance. Prince Stefano isn't what she expected. Will she find love again, even if it means compromising her religion? Meanwhile, money is being skimmed here and there from the royals and it's up to Alora to help find out who is doing it.
I enjoyed Stefano and Alora. They both had issues to work through, yet were great characters. I would have enjoyed more romance though. As usual, the author does a great job of weaving the suspense and mystery into the story.
Good book. Cute story about a young widow with sweet sons. Thrilling action but I felt the romance was a bit rushed. Deep feelings without much explanation.
A must read book! Abramson too hit the mark on balancing romance with suspense and the twist with fairy tale ending of the finding your prince was fabulous! I liked how Abramson touched on the subject that a lot of youth will face in finding, dating and marrying someone of their own faith. There is an internal struggle with the characters of following the Church standards in marrying someone who can take you to the temple and falling in love with someone that isn't of your own faith even if they are a Prince.
I liked how Alora and Janessa, although woman still are capable of taking care of themselves and are portrayed as educated and smart. (CIA)
I love the nature of Stefano and Garrett that although they are royalty they are down to earth and human. Stefano's desire to have a family of his own is squelched when he finds that he has a genetic defect that makes him infertile. He then finds that he can easily love Alora's children and loves spending time with them. It is heart warming to see this love evolve.
LOVED this book--except that now I have to wait (I hope) for the third installment of this series! As usual of books written by Traci, once I started reading it, I didn't want to put it down. I had to (gotta work, darnit, and sleep sometime!), but I didn't want to. Especially since it's been a while since Royal Target was published, you may want to re-read it to refresh your memories on characters and situations, as this pretty much picks up where that one leaves off. However, it's not a "requirement" as the story has the strength to stand on its own.
Once again, another fantastic book by Traci Hunter Abramson! I started reading it to destress and couldn't stop! Now it's one in the morning and I'm desperately wanting the next Royal book! This one keeps your attention thoroughly and although you may know who some of the bad guys are, you don't know all of them, or why. You go back and forth between You go back and forth between characters, but it is done well enough to not cause problems! I was completely shocked by the ending! That was a very jarring ending! There is another book, right?
There has to me another one to this it has a great ending, yet you feel there is so much more. I CAN"T WAIT FOR MORE! Okay this was gripping right from the first sentence. Traci is an amazing author. She effortlessly combines, a gripping story line with CIA, royalty, and intermixes the gospel, to make a smooth intriqueing, clean, gripping book that has you guessing and at the edge of your seat through the whole book. It's as easy as breathing with her writing. Excellent and very recommended to all! Can't wait for the next!
I have really enjoyed the fun factor with all of Abramson's books. I also like how the characters are in each of the books, but that they can sort of stand alone as the stories all focus on different characters...This installment focused on Prince Stephano and Alora. I love the spy/CIA element she throws in as well. She makes all kinds of crazy stuff seem plausible. Plot is always somewhat predictable (boy always gets girl or vice-versa) but there is also at least one or two little twists that I never see coming...
I know it's fluff, but it's fun. It's not overly preachy. The adventure draws me into the story. The likable characters make be believe in fairy tales. While not realistic, the book allowed me to escape my life of kids and housecleaning for a few minutes of immersion in luxury. Great fun! Quick read. Enjoyable! I want more by Abramson--especially books that tell fun stories with likable characters!
Traci Abramson is one of my favorite authors. When I hear she has a new book released I run out and buy it. Her books are well written and easy to read. They combine a bit of suspense and mystery with romance. I loved this follow up book to Royal Target. It's been so long in between books in this series that I had to remind myself what the last book was about! I really enjoyed this read. :)
What a great story!!! I loved how this story was focused on the elder brother Stefano. I love how the Gospel of Jesus Christ is tied into the story. I loved it from start to finish... Traci Hunter Abramson is such a great story teller, before her books I was never into Military, CIA type of stories. The way Traci writes I have really enjoyed this genre. It's really a trifecta of sorts. You have Adventure, Mystery and Romance!! I highly recommend this book.
Probably my favorite book so far by this author. The mystery was well written, the romance predictable but enjoyable, with just the right amount of conflict before having it all come together in the end. The CIA element was a nice blend with the rest of the story. I nominated this one for the 2012 Whitney award, and I hope to find the time to read the previous book in this series.
Oh my gosh!!! What is up with this author?!!! Why is she doing this?? Why does she think this a good idea????? 😂😂😂
Maybe she thinks it’s a good idea because people like me keep reading them 😅
This one focuses more on the older brother, the eldest son, the Crown Prince of Monaco (excuse me. I keep doing that. It’s Meridia. (Actually it really is Meridia because in this book they mention Monaco. So… 🤷🏻♀️)). And here I thought, oh good. This time the author won’t be tempted to bring the Church into too much of it. But no, no. I was wrong again.
I thought for sure when the first book’s protagonist’s friend came to work as her assistant, fated to fall in love with a prince, she wouldn’t be a member of so controversial a religion. But I have learned that I shouldn’t doubt this author. She just goes for it. How this is going to work out I have no idea. And I’ve finished the book.
Also, on another note, I am very impressed with the amount of killing and death that gets put into these books. It’s not as surprising as the religion membership of all these characters, but it’s still quite a bit of killing.
So really a strange series I’ve stumbled across. I’m definitely reading the next ones.

"I feel like we’re living in a fairytale.” Janessa simply grinned. “Don’t look now, but I think we are.”
Royal Secrets book 2 in the Royals series is just as good as the first! This time we get to follow Janessa's friend Alora and the oldest prince Stefano. Alora has suffered through intense heartbreak and following her journey of grief and finding hope and love again is so beautiful. I truly loved this book! It's so well written with fantastic characters, swoony kisses, and lots of excitement!
"The kiss was whisper soft, but it vibrated with comfort, belonging, and a hint of passion. He breathed in her scent, the exotic aroma of her perfume combined with the flavor of the sea. Something clicked inside him, a sense of rightness that he had been searching for without even knowing it."
Traci writes the best suspense romance thrillers!! I highly recommend you pick up her books!!
This is the second book in the series. It features Alora and Stefano. Alora is Janessa’s good friend and former CIA operative. Her husband was killed along with all her family except her two sons. Stefano is Prince Garrett’s brother and is next in line to rule. Alora goes to help Janessa as she plans her wedding and helps Garrett with his responsibilities. Alora ends up becoming close to Stefano after Stefano was injuried in an accident. Things are not what they appear and everyone is in danger. I enjoyed this romantic suspense. It was a fun book. I started with book five in the series and had to backtrack to book 1.
MY TEARS! Oh my gosh this book had my heart in a vice grip! So many incredibly emotional elements to consider in this book. Religion vs relationships. Single parent life. Country vs personal needs. Terrorists. This book had it all and more my goodness! Especially wonderful for anyone who is part of a minor or marginalized religion, the one in the series specifically being the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but truly such a powerful allegory for all who have struggled to be true to their religious beliefs during life’s many many challenges. Triggers: terrirists and bombings, unalived people on a couple occasions, infertility, grief/mourning as well as real-time loss
These books are all predictable and not great literary works. However, I like to read them as a break between heavy reads. They are fun stories with the little clean romance. This particular one was about a lady who moved in with her friend. In book one the friend got engaged to a prince. Of course the prince has a brother and now he gets to fall in love with this lady. She was previously married and had two kids, but her husband was murdered. Everything ties together in the end and works out just fine. After much drama, of course.
Good book with an interesting plot line. I have really enjoyed this series and the Meridian royal family. I liked discovering more about Stefano and Alora has such a tragic backstory but yet keeps such a positive attitude that you can't help but like her. I love the dynamic Alora's kids bring to this story. This is a clean book with no sex or inappropriate language.
I was having a hard time at the beginning figuring out all the characters and then I realized it was the second book in a series, so that may have made a difference. The story was good but also felt kind of awkward with all the religion stuff.
I liked the characters and the mystery. Curious to see how it all plays out in book 3. I have to admit, I did have the bad guy picked from the beginning, but I think the author intended us to guess.
I really liked the characters in this book. I was a little disappointed in the abrupt ending. The main conflict gets resolved but the underlying stories, not so much. Hopefully book 3 will tie things up.
It’s funny how you the things that are different when you read a book a decade apart. I remember LOVING the first book. But on a re-read it was just ok. Felt the same about this and the last in the series- I like them all but there are things I just didn’t find plausible.
I liked getting introduced to the new character and things being from Stefano's point of view. Yes predictable in certain areas, but I'm not one to mind! I still like the mystery and action parts. Fun series.
I’m reading these out of order (library availability) but it’s ok. Another great, clean book about bad people trying to kill the prince, bombs being set to disrupt the government and a love story. And it is very Mormon!
