A young man with college degree works at a private golf club. He's smitten with the primary owner's daughter and she with him, but he recognizes he'll never fit in with the rich. Not helping his social status is his discovery of a murdered man. From here the book follows Danny trying to keep his job at the club, though he knows he's good enough himself to go pro. Everyone is a suspect, including him.
This was not an easy book for me to get through because there's a lot of golf. A lot of golf. A. Lot. Of. Golf. Plus, Danny is not the most sympathetic protagonist. I've had unsympathetic leads before, but Danny was as stubborn as a mule and he got tiresome.
The reveal of the killer was good, as was the motivation, and the slight twist on the reveal was solid. But it was too little, too late for me. I was hoping for much more of a gumshoe detective novel.
