A good story about the Henderson Family and their battle with a man that wanted their ranch to build a railroad Grace is a mail order bride to Henry and they both lost a mate and did not want to marry again but Henry has a daughter Louise and he needed to be a father The family grew in togetherness and love I enjoyed reading
This was a very good read by Lydia Olsen. This boo was very hard to put down once I started to read. There was so much going on. Grace is a widower, her husband died in a mine caving in. After he had been abusing her for years. Grace was going to lose her home to the bank as he had mortgage it. Henry is the grumpy rancher. His wife died in child birth and he could never forgive hisself. His sister is finally getting married and moving out of her brothers house, she took it onto herself to fine Henry a wife so she could take care of Henry and his daughter. What happens next? A very enjoyable read.
This is a fun, exciting and adventurous mail order bride tale. Grace is a young attractive you wife of a cruel, drinking man. He is a verbal and physical abusive miner. Fear is always present in her life. After a mining accident he is among thirty to loose their lives and she is now along as her parents are deceased as well. Her friend convinces her to answer a mail order bride advertisement. Upon arrival she finds he did not write to advertisement and he is dead against taking a wife to help raise is young daughter, Louise. You will enjoy discovering how they find their way to a happily ever after.
Olson delivers another great romance for mature teens ( A little spousal and community violence, so it's not a "G" but maybe "PG" on the movie rating scale). How Grace tries to deal with a violent husband does shape her relationships with others and this book deals with that issue along with the fear communities had when dealing with misunderstood diseases (reminds me of recent events). Yes, it was a bit dramatic, but the book as a whole is wonderful reading and I highly recommend this sweet romance!
It takes 518 pages to get Grace to the point where she can begin to move on from the abuse of her first husband and the mood swings of the new husband. It appears there is a sequel and that's good because there are loose strings still to be tied up. Overall it's a good book set in frontier America. There are editing issues but errors can be overlooked to move the story along.
An intriguing story about two people that have suffered much loss. Henry lost the love of his life when his wife died. Grace lost her despicable husband in a mine collapse. Unfortunately he left her destitute. Grace answers a mail order bride advertisement to help her situation and start again, but she has vowed to never marry again. Left with no choice she enters into a marriage of convenience. Many twists and turns occur as Henry and Grace are trying to get to know each other, don’t miss out.
This was a typical mail order bride book. The sister of the groom, had placed the ad in the newspaper with her brother not knowing what she was up to. There was a lot of real information woven into the story, as well as inaccurate. I was impressed with the depth of real emotions described throughout. It was balanced between both genders not being biased against one or the other.
This story definitely touched me in so many ways. The people in this story were all strong individuals that had been weakened by life events but determinedly fought to regain happiness.
Grace was a young girl married to an abusive drunken gambling miner husband who died in a mine collapse after 3 years of marriage. She answers a mail order bride ad to a widower rancher with a 5 year old daughter. Interesting.
Awesome story.. Loved how it held my interest all through Many women today suffer at the hands of alcholic husbands, it's good to see someone showing hope for them
