Picture this…you’re sitting by the ocean, sipping your favorite cocktail. The sun is setting over your skin, and the sound of waves crashing against the sand offers the perfect background music for the mellow reggae tunes that play through the salty air. Life is good. You have a best friend who seems to be a better friend to you than he is a boyfriend to his girl, your mom is calling your phone to ask what time you’ll be home for dinner, and your current “plaything” is too busy flirting with another girl in a desperate attempt to see if you care. Pathetic. But you don’t care because the sand is between your toes, your surfboard is freshly waxed, and you are one hundred percent sure that your life is perfect. It was all perfect, right?
Except Hades Hollow would never be perfect. This was a town built on old stories that were planted, grew, and eventually rotted here. It was a vicious cycle of rebirth. The stories would never die…not at least until the real one had been told.
It all started with a game. The kind of trickery that poisons your heart because it knows the mind is weak.
One was my nemesis, a genre-meddling musician. The foe . One was as scary as he was charming. The weapon . And one was a billionaire. The ruse . I mean, I knew that, right. I knew who they were… I was about to find out the hard way that I didn’t know anything at all. I’m Shiloh St. Claire. A daughter, a friend…and The liar .
This book didn’t make any sense. And not in a mysterious, suspenseful way. In a whose-POV-is-this, since-when-are-you-in-this-scene, did-I-accidentally-skip-a-page kind of way. The formatting of this was so off that I got actually angry. The flashbacks (?) were so randomly interspersed and I couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be one person’s flashbacks or from multiple people.
Every time Cooper appeared I was so genuinely confused at where he had come from. He just appears out of nowhere half the time.
Well damn!! Did I just read this book in one sitting? And during said sitting, did I abandon all adult responsibilities? Fuck Yeah, I did!! I can't tell you how often I said, “ What the hell, woman?” Especially with that ending. Mind fuckery at its best!! Totally here for it. I love it and live for it!
Boneyard Tides reminded me of the author's early work, which is my favorite. Then I read all the trigger warnings and was giddy as a schoolgirl. Let's talk about the cover. I bought the book for the cover alone. My review will be vague. To enhance your reading experience, I suggest going in blind.
Cue the crazy train. Our strong heroine Shiloh gets in and accepts an invitation to a unique game. Dion, who she always knows has a history with and loves to hate him, is there and meets Sparrow and Malyk. To say they have darkness is an understatement. One is cunning, another is a serial killer, and they have a ton of secrets; I am sure not all have been revealed.
It's just an extra added bonus. It's also a Gothic romance. The foursome scenes are off-the-charts steamy.
We have barely peeled the layers of all the secrets and lies. I can't wait to peel more. Honestly, this is some of the author's best work.
Hades Hollow, an oceanside town where dark folklore is part of life. Best friends, Shiloh and Cooper spend their free time surfing, drinking, and being seventeen. When they receive a coveted invitation to play The Game, everything changes. Nothing is as it seems. No one is who you think they are.
The Game hosts, Sparrow, Dion, and Malyk all have an intense attraction to Shiloh, but are holding a vault of secrets.
True to her style, Amo has penned a multilayered story with suspense, steam, and a whole lotta WTF is happening here. Do yourself a favor and go in blind because knowing Amo’s style, spoilers aren’t going to help when nothing is as it seems anyway.

This is truly unlike anything Amo has written before - the tales of Hades Hollow, the secondary plot line, the town legends, but it also has so much her signature writing- the mystery, the plot twists, the steam.
I’m officially obsessed with Hades Hollow and all it entails. It’s going to be torture waiting for book 2.
The problem with Amo’s writing is that a little more structure with the formatting and everything would flow 10x better. There was multiple times where a new scene starts mid-chapter and confused the heck out of me. I usually have to go back and re-read to make sure I didn’t miss anything. If Amo added a page break or even symbols to break off the scenes, it would read so much easier.
Not going to lie, I stuck with it simply because I wanted to know if it got better. It did, I would say around 60% is the turning point. It’s where things start to kind of click, and you can kind of piece together what she’s trying(keyword) to portray. It’s not a spicy as everyone usually expects from the author… at least from what I’ve heard. I haven’t read much from Amo and this is the first time I wasn’t left frustrated with the writing style and/or storyline.
This wasn’t as dark as I expected from her and even some of the trigger warnings listed weren’t really brought up in the book. So I’m unsure if the content list is for the series…with the cliffhanger I can kind of seeing it getting darker. The side characters were beyond annoying. Conor could 🪦 and I would not give two cents about it. The continuous adding of “best friends” was annoying as hell. Like there’s no previous mention of them and then BAM! BFF SISTERS FOR LIFE. okay? Ruin served no purpose. Why was he there? Goodbye annoying little boy. I guess Dion and Shi’a connection almost immediately, which might be purposeful considering this author loves to leave things unexplained.
Overall, I didn’t hate it. I didn’t love it. I’m intrigued enough to probably read book two if I remember everything Because there’s no way I am re-reading the first half of this book. It gave me a headache.
What did I just read?! I'm so confused!!! I thought this harem was going to blow other Amo books out of the water. No, sadly let down lately with new releases, this one included. The time jump was all over the place. As a reader I had no idea most of the time who was having the memory (male or female) let alone what character it was. Amo didn't do a good job with that clarification. I get keeping the suspense but come on. I literally am sitting here thinking wth is this book really about? God I hope this series and books in future are going to get better.
This is the worst book I’ve ever read LOL so messy. So confusing. IT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE!! such a mindf*ck. it was a train wreck that I couldn’t stop reading!! Very entertaining tho I was laughing the whole book 😂😂
I feel like I read a rough draft and not a published book 😅
Rating: 1.75🌟
Supposed to be one star but I’ll give another .75 since I buddy read it and it was so funny 😂😂😂🫶🏼🫶🏼
Flaws & things that bothered me: ♡︎ what is boneyard? Why is it in the title? What even is it?! ♡︎ no proper plot structure ♡︎ the italics were confusing af ♡︎ no character development at all ♡︎ the world building was absolutely abysmal ♡︎ writing is terrible and nonsensical ♡︎ all three male characters felt the same. I was reading the same character with the same 2d personalities ♡︎ characters popped out of nowhere and just materialized randomly..weird af ♡︎ what even was the point of all these characters?!?! they brought nothing to the story ♡︎ Shiloh was the worst FMC ever. Her comebacks and sass made my eyes water from cringe 💀💀💀
I’m so glad I finished this book. I feel Iike I really conquered something 💪💪 I will miss its dumb f*ckery tho 🫶🏼
On one hand, I absolutely love the atmosphere, the legend surrounding their town, and mystery behind what has been going on between these character. However, my issue stems from how I often have to back read a lot of things to understand what was going on. A large part of the book left me confused and wondering what the hell was going on.
I’m a bit hot and cold with the characters as well. I’m not exactly sure if I liked anyone of them. They added new characters towards the end of the book which actually
Don't get me wrong, I am super invested in the story. But I guess my issue was how it was written. There were flashbacks sprinkled within the story that I can’t figure out whose POV it was or if it was from the past or from the present because it’s in a narration of a certain character. It kinda made me feel so dumb.
FINAL THOUGHTS & RATING:
This book’s strength is definitely the sense of intrigue and mystery. I did not expect anything that happened towards the end of this book. I am excited to find out what will happen next.
ღ 𝐁𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐘𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐓𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐒 ღ Is the first full length gothic romance book in the (Aphotic Waters) series by author Amo Jones. Multiple perspectives. HEROINE: Shiloh HEROINES BEST FRIEND Cooper THE BOYS: Dion, Malyk & Sparrow
Ok so here's the thing, there I am reading this mind fuckey of a book, it's going good ( I think ) it's going in a direction I'm keeping up with ( laughs ) only for it to slam the breaks on and I'm spinning around out of control and am going down a whole new path, so I'm dazed and confused with a WTF just happened, but in this case it's a WTF have I just read because without a fucking lie I have no idea!! I know for certain that I loved it because I read it in one sitting.
❥ Gothic Romance ❥ Bully ❥ Three beyond HOT men ❥ Serial Killer
It all started with a game..
It's beyond unique, which come on it's an Amo Jones book, no one and I mean no one does unique like her!
And here's the thing, there's was no way I was prepared for this book, what a joke, no one can take on Amo Jones and come out of it sane!!
I can't even if I wanted to give spoilers because yet again I'm throwing my hands up in the air with a WTF gesture!!
It was like a series thrown into one book, each character had their story to tell, each going down their own paths, puzzle pieces not adding up to make the full picture, definitely jumping on that wagon of craziness to read the next book!!
AMO JONES IS FINALLY TAKING ON RH! BRING IT ON BABY! 🖤
We've got a promising set of guys for this one including #thebillionare, #therockstarfoe, and #theoutlawkingpin! Tbh I can barely handle one Amo man but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna try! And a rapid release for both books? I am SO excited! 😍
I'm also intrigued to see how she plans to make the beach gothic but if anyone could do it, it'd be her! 🌊👀
DISCLAIMER: I will reserve my right to change this after I read part 2 because part 1 left me confused and distracted until about 60-70% in! I am hoping it all makes sense then and I will be completely WOW’d.
“𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘢𝘯.”
The devils indeed. WHAT THE $&! is going on here?! 🤯
Honestly, I was confused. The whole time! I’m not a huge fan of the “flashbacks” or “memories” and this one has a lot of that going on. To the point I was wondering if I was missing something WHICH is no doubt what Amo wanted to create. Well, she got my attention. 💯
Hades Hollow is not your normal beach town. There is a dark story here.
Shiloh St. Claire is a surfer. She’s beyond cool, love her whole character. BUT, something is off. She has these flashbacks and, I don’t even know what’s going on.
Enter Sparrow, Malyk and Dion. A billionaire, a psycho and a rockstar walk into a bar… 😂 Seriously, I can’t even figure out how these three connect but they do!
Such a very layered story! Really interested to see what unfolds in book 2 because right now, I’m clueless.
DNF at 57% - this book is terribly written. I see people saying "oh that's just Amos writing." Nope. This was awful. The story jumps around constantly. Characters will be present in a scene then one of them gets a phone call from the character they were JUST talking to in the paragraph above as if they just vanished. Formatting was awful. It was confusing the entire time and I still have no idea what i just read.
This book was a huge letdown. I have no clue what I just read. When I made it to the end none of it made any sense and at no point did I understand what was going on and nothing was resolved. I feel like I just read words until the book ran out of them. Here I am trying to figure out what the words meant but I couldn't tell you. I understand suspense but this isn't it
Book Review - Boneyard Tides book one in Aphotic Waters
okay first, im not normally one to pick up an RH book. there may be a few of them i want to read BUT when one of my favorite authors writes a RH book you betcha i’m going to read it and Amo does not disappoint!! while this review might not make sense since i’m still not sure what i just read. did i love what i read? absolutely yes! can you ask me what i read? nope. i am so confused and have SO MANY questions. honestly, if you don’t feel this exact way after reading an Amo book then are you doing it right? all i know is that i was equally turned on and creeped the F out by our three heroes.
In true Amo fashion you will be asking yourself what is going on here? at least 12 times during each chapter. i know i did. and when you finish you'll think okay okay i understand but then you’ll also have 12,000 more questions that you will need answers too. with that cliffhanger i screamed at my kindle being like NOOOO I NEED BOOK TWO STAT!!
the foe. the weapon. the ruse & the liar — you can help but fall for Shiloh, the cool, badass surfer. then Sparrow, Dion & Malyk all hot and demanding alphas. told from all four povs which will confuse you even more. but you will 100% enjoy the ride! while reading, i volleyed back and forth from being turned on to being creeped out. there was one time i screamed out loud as did another character. Amo nails the gothic beach town vibes this one gives off perfectly.
I received an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
How rude. For me to think she wouldn’t do me like this is laughable. I should’ve seen this coming from a mile away. What a freaking cliffhanger! First, let me start off by saying the creeps this book gave me were unreal. I mean I was getting chills like every other page. You’re completely in the dark with everything and I definitely said out loud “What the heck is going on here?!” about a million times. This book really sucked me in and can easily be finished in one sitting! This gothic and reverse harem romance will knock you on your butt. It’s such a solid start to this brand new series and I can’t wait to see where things go. I mean the world that she’s created here feels like nothing she’s ever written, it’s quite unique. I have so many questions going through my mind, and I simply can’t wait to get my hands on book two. September seriously can’t come soon enough!
Amo Jones brings epic levels of mindf*kery in Boneyard Tides. She brings twists coming with twists. She took me on a crazy, chaotic, messy and addictive ride where I never know what to believe, who to trust and what to expect. This gothic dark why choose romance played with my mind and soul. I feel like I am under the dark spell of Hades Hollow. Welcome to the dreamy small beach town with dangerous secrets, bone chilling legends, twisted games, broken characters and filthy passion.
Phew I don't know how to even describe this book! A mix of gothic vibes, spooky atmosphere, pirate legends and sleepy small town romance vibes..Boneyard Tides is unlike anything I have read before. Sparrow the billionaire brooding alpha. Malyk Carrera the serial killer with serious issues. Dion Quinn the tatted rockstar hiding secrets. And Shiloh St. Clair caught in a game with them. This is the first book so expect all the puzzle and questions. It is like one step ahead and two steps back. Everytime you feel you have figured something out..everything changes. I am so lost and so obsessed. Shiloh may be young but this damn girl has some serious fire in her that is making three very dangerous and twisted men go crazy. It was freaking filthy. Downright dirty. And the suspense..pure perfection. It is a whole new world where I was transported to by Amo Jones' words and even after closing the book long time ago..I feel I am in a haze. Like a part of my heart is still in Hades Hollow.
Boneyard Tides is a darker gothic mystery romance focusing on the oceanside town of Hades Hollow and the myths/legends surrounding it’s past. Shiloh gets an invitation to what is called “The Game” where she crosses paths with the three antihero’s of the series, Malyk, Sparrow and Dion. Something is certainly brewing in Hades Hollow and all is not what it seems.
This is my first read by Amo Jones and I am by no means disappointed. I can make all the predictions I want, but I’m fairly certain none will be close to accurate anyway. Hah. This book has multiple POVS, twists, secrets, betrayal and some spice. It does end of a major cliffhanger and now I’m just impatiently waiting for September 1st for book two!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥🔥
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Holy moly there are so many layers to this story I’m so confused but I loved it nonetheless! This is definitely a typical Amo Jones mind fuck twist and turns all over and the plot thickens! I definitely can’t wait for the next book especially after that cliffy!
I was super excited for this release. For context, I’ve read Sicko, Wicked and Silver Swan.
Boneyard Tides left me feeling like I somehow skipped pages when I didn’t. For some reason I just didn’t care for Dion. Sparrow left me wanting more and Malyk…well I’m not sure…I guess I didn’t really buy it?
I know this story will continue in the other books and I’m hoping it’ll get better but I guess I went in expecting to have my jaw on the floor. Maybe not so much on the floor like I was with Sicko and Wicked but idk…at least a little bit? Like Sicko really f*ckd with my head and I didn’t see what was coming. But for this book I found no shock value for some reason and I’m still trying to figure out why since the reviews so far have been great for this book.
“See, Hades Hollow has a secret, and like the bones of our ancestors that live beneath the waters here, they should stay dead.”
If Amo writes it, I will read it. It’s just an unspoken rule of life. Her ability to write characters and stories that completely engage you, makes her one of my favourite dark romance authors. Hades Hollow is a small beachside town that’s full of mystery, secrets and games and just when you think you know her secrets, the rug is pulled out from under you.
Shiloh St. Claire - The Liar, is our FMC. She’s a spitfire, confident and sassy, just how I like them. Sparrow - The Ruse, Malyk - The Weapon and Dion - The Foe. Our MMC’s. All vastly different men yet all walking, talking red flags. Red flags that I am colourblind to. What their intentions are and what game they’re playing? I have no idea, but I want in.
This book is the first in a four book series, so there are a lot of questions that obviously won’t be answered until later. Amo’s specialty is the ability to have you second-guessing everything you think you know. A complete mindfuck. Boneyard Tides was no different. The ending had me reeling, I had absolutely no idea what was about to happen and now I need Phantom Crush IMMEDIATELY.
Aphotic Waters is going to be a wild ride, so you better buckle up.
This is gothic, reverse harem romance that’s told in present day through our four MC’s, as well as flashbacks. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
First off I'm just going to say just WOW. When Amo first announced she was going to write a RH/Why Choose, I just knew she was going to smash it, and smashed it out of the park is EXACTLY what she did.
The whole premises and mystery surrounding Hades Hollow was so intriguing, interesting and unique to me. The way Amo intertwined the lore, worldbuilding and the creepy gothic vibes was outstanding.
Shiloh St Claire is a girl that clearly has secrets, but her love for her friends and surfing tops everything. But when the mysterious Dion moves back to town and everyone is talking about 'the game' she doesn't have a clue what everyone is talking about and for a town she's grown up in her whole life, that's surprising to her.
The addition of Dion, Malyk and Sparrow just add to the mystery. And when I say these may be some of my favourite guys Amo has ever written, that isn't a lie.
If you love being mindf*cked and confused to the end, in true Amo fashion, this is the book for you. It's been 48 hours since I finished and the theories I have running through my mind, have left me unable to stop thinking about this book.
I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to make it until September for book 2, but I know that if you loved EKC then this is going to be your next Amo book you need to read.
First thing: this is the first book I ever read by Amo Jones and right now I beat myself for this, ‘cause this book is freaking awesome and I loved it. With a lot of themes that I love together, this book made me on edge since the first page. *Dark *Gothic *Mystery *Why Choose *A town replete with secrets *A dangerous game Seriously, sometimes I didn’t know what was happening, and I made a lot of theories that (I hope) would be confirm in the next book. For everyone who loves a twisted book, with a lot of mystery and some dangerous and questionables heroes- this book is definitely for you.
