Herbert Fingarette was an American philosopher and emeritus professor of philosophy at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He received his PhD at the University of California, Los Angeles under the direction of Donald Piatt.
Fingarette's work deals with issues in philosophy of mind, psychology, ethics, law, and Chinese philosophy.
Very academic and mind-oriented and description in tone and in substance. A few interesting observations on karma and reincarnation, but not much in the way of applied reasoning or example. A good book for those looking to write a thesis, not so much for those looking to transform the self on a spiritual or heart level. Even though spirit is in the subtitle, there is really no deep exploration of the nature and application of spirit in the world.
