A 12th century survey of Durham, with the original document faced by a modern English version on the opposite page. As Wikipedia says, "The Boldon Book contains the results of a survey of the bishopric of Durham that was completed on the orders of Hugh du Puiset, Bishop of Durham, in 1183, designed to assist the administration of the vast diocesan estates." Some nice detail, not repeated in other sources, on the early inhabitants of my area. My village merits a few lines only. Interesting snapshot of Durham 60 years after Symeon of Durham's local writings.
