Jim Griffith takes the reader on a journey through the folklore and traditional cultures of southern Arizona and northern Sonora in Mexico (the region known as the Pimeria Alta, or upper land of the Pimas). Experience the vibrant arts, music, religion, culinary traditions, places, and people of the region.
I love the region he wrote about, but I wish he had written about different topics and/or stories from that region. Also, there were too many direct calls for the reader to seek out his other articles, essays, and papers on related topics. Each section and chapter ended with such overt call-outs of his other writings, as if the book were merely a vehicle to promote his other writings.
