Williamsburg resident L.B. Taylor, Jr., is credited with 50 non-fiction books, including 25 enormously popular collections of Virginia ghost stories.
He earned his journalism degree from Florida State University, served in the U.S. Army, and later covered spaceflight missions for NASA. As a freelance writer, he wrote more than 300 articles throughout his career and his retirement.
While his popular non-fiction books cover diverse subjects, from pirate treasure to electronic surveillance, his ghost story collections set him firmly in Virginia libraries, schools, and homes.
I've read several of Mr. Taylor's books and I've enjoyed all of them. This one was a bit dry in places but made up for it with information and research plus he covers most all of a large state. If you have an interest in either cryptids or the Commonwealth of Virginia, I think you will appreciate this book.
I do want to say however that this author can consider banshees a form of folklore all he wants but this positive review does not indicate that I agree with him. One branch of my family tree actually has it's own family banshee and I do NOT want to make it mad.
Interesting read, especially if you live in Virginia. I liked all the old stories from different articles/papers and how the author kept the original text (spelling and speech). Some of the monsters talked about in this book are Bigfoot, Vampires, Werewolves, Wampus Cat, Chessie, and many more.
