Summary: Draco Malfoy did not choose to be a Death Eater, and he certainly did not choose to be given a suicide mission to kill Dumbledore. His hand was forced, and that was no choice. The injustice of it all drove him to darkness.
Hermione Granger had no choice in becoming a witch. It was gifted to her, for whatever reason, and she rose to the occasion brilliantly. But her blood was ‘wrong’, and by sixth year, the ignorance of the society she occupied wore her down to a breaking point.
But in a world where they lacked agency in so many matters, what if they chose one another? And what would they do to protect that choice?
The Choices We Make is a canon divergent story that spans sixth year to the end of the Second Wizarding War. It explores what Draco and Hermione, and a slew of other characters, do when they take hold of their own lives, and make a choice.
I loved the first half during the 6th year and Draco and Hermione were developing feelings for another! Was quite realistic as to how their relationship could've actually happened in the books. The last half of the book felt flat and was mostly giving plot summary of the 7th book. Didn't care for that.
Dramione Draco on probation, force to work for the MLE with her. He has issues, panic over making a vow. For lack of available supervisor they're going to send him to Azkaban for 10 days? Yikes. No, she'll volunteer. Bet. I think I don't prefer Draco only pov. I want to see things from her perspective. I feel disconnected when I don't hear her thoughts. Dnf.
I loved this fic. This is what I wanted from Draco in the books. The dual POV the timeline. This amazing. I also liked the other couples and how supportive pansy and Theo were
“Fuck it, Hermione — I didn’t know it was possible to feel this way about someone! You own my soul, my heart, everything. It’s fucking madness, but I would do anything he did you; I’d torch the world if it meant I knew you’d be safe, be happy.”
2ND READ got me out of a slump. Knew I needed something good to read to get me back into it after finals. Think this worked.
1ST READ I loved this one. It was cute. It reminded me a little of The Disappearances of Draco Malfoy. But the romance in this one was cute. The only reason it was 4.5 instead of 5 stars is because it felt a little too fast for Draco to jump from hatred to loving her. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. I liked having a Draco side of the story for the vanishing cabinet and how he became a Death Eater. Anyways. I loved this.
