Deadly Souls is Book 18 in the Witch in the Woods series by Jenna St. James.
This series is so good and only gets better!
The town of Enchanted Island is celebrating Samhain with a soul cake march. Unfortunately, there is murder amongst all the celebrating.
Zoie is brought into the investigation to get her ready for her detective training with PADA. I loved Shayla and Zoie together investigating and Harlow making an appearance was fantastic!
The story is so great and filled with so much intrigue and twists and turns.
The character development is fantastic, and the world building is excellent.
As usual, the author surprises the reader with who the killer is.
There’s been a murder on the island and to give Zoie some practical field experience before she leaves for PADA detective training, her father/sheriff deputizes her and Zoie works the case with Shayla and Needles. So much fun to watch Zoie grow over the series and now getting some practical experience in her chosen career. Plenty of suspects since the victim was not well liked. Plenty of twists and surprises and fun assists from Harlow from PADA and Harold the dog. So fun watching Shayla communicate with animals. And a fun event to start the book with the theme of the costumes being Stereotypical Supernaturals According to Humans. Watch out for Serena’s very unique baby twins. They are going to be fun to watch grow up. As with all of Jenna St. James’ books, I was totally hooked and finished it in one sitting. Such a wonderful series!!
Well, Samhain holiday seems to always bring mystery to town. This year, a murder with a long list of suspects, since the victim was probably the least liked of all. Zoie and Harley get to show their skills in this investigation. For Zoie, it is a sample of what her training for the PADA will be like. For Harley, she got to do PADA work outside of the morgue and labs. The fact that Shayla get shot and her dad heals her does not dampen the excitement of Zoies' graduation and entrance to PADA. Was the Loci King predicting that the yule season with bring about changes, with not only Zoie returning from training, but for Shayla and Alex. What is ahead? Only Ms. Jenna knows for sure!
I continue to enjoy the series. Zoie plays a major role in this one as Shayla has her assist with an investigation. That sort of stretches things for me. She's still in high school. They keep emphasizing that she's going to start PADA training in 2 months. But - she's still in high school. As usual, the mystery is well done with plenty of suspects. There are more than a few ends left incomplete, and things fall together so very quickly. I think there could be a little more detail in the story since this is such a fast read. What ever happened with Shayla investigating the area around the Black Forest?
Another visit to Enchanted Island and the opportunity to visit characters who have become friends. A perfectly paced mystery with a limited number of suspects and enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. I was quite surprised by I loved that Zoie got to be involved this time in the investigation. She showed that she has a natural talent for investigative work. The killer was a complete surprise to me, and I love when that happens in a mystery book.
I love this series, it just keeps getting better and better. Another Sanhain is here and the island is bringing back the tradition of the soul cake festival. A local business man is found dead the next day, is it his shady business practices that caused someone to kill him?
Book 18 has humor (Needles), mystery, murder, and a snipit of danger. Zoie gets a taste of investigating and the dangers that go along with it before she's headed for her future. Highly entertaining.
Such a good series. With each book (this being the 18th in the series) the characters have become like family. Fun, well thought out mysteries that will keep you guessing until the end. Can't wait for book 19.
Shayla and Zoie get to work together. Needles is a real pistol. He is so lazy and funny and always hungry. Alex and Shayla are doing well. And her dad continues to protect the island.
Absolutely fantastic Jenna!!! This one really had me guessing till the very end and I definitely didn't expect the ending!!! You have an incredible ability to use twists and turns to throw the reader off the trail of the murderer! So well written, congratulations!
This series is so good. I love the people, the town the interactions and the mystery is always awesome. Relationships are growing, the young ones growing up. I’m just glad there is more to come!
Weak detective work and stumbled into the killer again... there's not much for Zoie to learn from Shayla when she bumbles around and basically just finds the bad guy committing another crime...
I love this series so much! It has been so much fun to watch Zoie grow and now she will graduate soon. With her future career with the Paranormal Apprehension and Detention Agency pending, they all work together to solve another mystery.
If you’re looking for a great cozy read, and you love the supernatural world, these books are the best! Easy to ready, well written, great characters, and well thought out murder mysteries! Each book is better than the last! Must read series!
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
I loved this book. It is fun and entertaining. There are many twists to keep you guessing until the end. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend this whole series.
