One of the most loved urban storytellers, Treasure Blue, delivers the second installment in the acclaimed Harlem Girl Lost series—a gritty urban drama featuring a group of Harlem teenagers facing the consequences of revenge and the hope that could save their city and their futures.Jessica Jones never thought living her teenage dream would lead to a living nightmare. When she and her three best friends venture out on prom night, they’re drunk on young love and excited for their college plans. But a tragic incident turns a night of high school achievement into a crime scene, and Jessica and her girls are left with bloody hands and shattered futures. After spending years paying off a debt that wasn’t theirs, Jessica and her friends return to Harlem to find it very different from when they left. Crack is now king, and its destruction has left their families in ruin and their neighborhoods consumed by its peddlers. Jessica takes a stand, and her friends are there to back her up when demons from the past come beating down their doors. Now Jessica and the girls must pass the ultimate test in order to preserve their lives, their families, and their Harlem.
This book was awesome!! Jessica and her friends were something else!! She had to grow up real fast!! The book was awesome and a real page turned!! You did it again Treasure Blue!!
This is a kind of weird, woman-centered hood fantasy-- sweet young girl Jessica is sent to prison over a murder in the early eighties and when she gets out seven years later, she embarks on a crusade to overturn the crack dealers that have ruined her Harlem neighborhood. She does this with the help of her three best girl friends and some older Vietnam vets, in spectacular fashion, with explosions and guns and odd deaths. It really captures the flavor of the kind of stories I wanted to write when you just wanted to write something cool, to make your friends smile after study hall, and it's got a tearing, fireball energy.
That said, it's not especially good. The characters are very thin, and the scenarios of revenge and bad-assery are thinner. There are long dull patches-- like the trial scenes-- that Blue hasn't figured out how to make readable, and there are other awkward elements. The proofreading is more poor than usual-- I'm all about trying to capture the rhythms of Harlem speech, but there are words missing here that make the sentences not make sense. On other spots, there are just the not-quite-right word, like using "and" instead of "an."
In its best spots, it's an enjoyable romp, but it is a little too underdeveloped for me, on the level of production and planning.
This book was soooo good. Treasure Blue did his thing once again. I was very impressed on how he made this book feel like you were right there. I love how the friends stuck together no matter what. Jessica was determined to get her brother on the right track and she did. I won't say to much more because I will tell the whole story. job 5 star banger. I don't know what took me so long to read it. I can tell you it was worth the wait.
I think sometimes authors decide to push the envelope too much with certain books. This book isn't overly racy or anything like that, but it has so many crazy things happening that it just gets ridiculous and predictable. I love the beginning to middle, but the middle to end is horrible. Nice idea but terrible execution.
The book, Get IT Girls, by Treasure Blue, focuses on four best friends, naming their pact, Get It Girls. The girls become victims of violence and then convicted of a crime they did not commit. The story leads you through their prison term then to a war on drugs. I found the read to be dry, stretched way to long and boring in many areas. I am a little disappointed. I rate this book OK.
As with all the Treasure Blue books I've read, Get it Girls was a page turning gripping novel. This book extended a look at Jessica's Jones (Silver's mother) younger years from a different angle. This book offered valuable, background information on the characters & situations they encountered. Great read.
It was good to see an alternative to Jessicas life. I wish the tradegy that came upon her and her friends didnt have to but it was a learning experience as with all things in life. I enjoyed this book and enjoy treasure blue as an author
Treasure Blue wrote this story in such a way it will never be forgotten. The characters journey through the injustice of being blamed for a murder to ridding the streets of drugs in their own vigilante justice. The pages kept turning on this one. I Look forward to reading more of her work.
I didn't enjoy this story as much as the other ones I've read from Treasure Blue as it seemed a little far fetched as just wasn't as interesting. I still enjoyed the read but it wasn't one of my favourites.
Treasure Blue wrote this book in a way which grabbed my attention; so much so that once I started reading, I did not put the book down until reading the last word on the last page!!! Thank you, Treasure Blue.
Loved it, Loved it! I highly recommend this book you wil not be dissapointed! Treasure is a rare gem and you should pick this one up.... The books grips you and keeps you interested from the first page to the last
This story is gripping, I held my breathe as I couldn't stop reading it. When you have a book that stops you from working cause it consumes you until you continue its a book that needs to receive more than 5 stars
