Sadly, not everyone shares her enthusiasm.
While the majority of the locals are thrilled with her new Comfort Cakes Bake Shop, Rachel soon learns that the owner of a local café is determined to ruin her. But when Rachel finds a dead body in her kitchen just before the Grand Opening and she is accused of the murder, she quickly realizes that this is more than a little friendly rivalry!
SLICE OF PARADISE COZY MYSTERIES Book 1: A Cherry Sinister Murder Book 2: The Cheesecake Fake Book 3: The Blackmail Flour Trail Book 4: Banana Whip Safari Trip Book 5: Pecan Flan Murder Plan
From A Cherry Sinister Faith Franklin is a dreamer. She dreams of cakes & pies. She dreams of crepes & brownies. And, more than anything, she dreams of making a career of serving her delicious treats to an adoring public.
So, when her grandmother calls and asks her to move to Florida to help run her café, she cannot get out of Minnesota fast enough! And before she knows it she is standing in Paradise Point, the beautiful, oceanside plaza in which Bessie's Café is located, hardly able to believe her good fortune.
Life is now exactly how Faith had imagined it could be. She's made wonderful friends. The café, now renamed the Slice of Paradise, has been renovated to showcase her amazing desserts. And both locals & tourists are loving it!
Well, all except for one...
The owner of a nearby cupcake shop is not at all happy with Faith's arrival in Paradise Point. She has accused Faith of trying to ruin her by stealing her recipes & designs. And she is not shy about letting everyone know it.
So, when the woman is found dead the day after their confrontation, people immediately begin to consider whether Faith is the killer...
Is Faith guilty of murder? If not, who is? And can Faith find a way to clear her name before her dreams turn into nightmares?
I'm a mother, wife, homemaker, pet lover, teacher, student, reader, writer, drinker of tea & wine (depending on the time of day) and sleep-deprived dreamer. I live in Syracuse, NY, with my husband, Doug (also a writer with books available on Amazon), our three children and too many furred & feathered friends to list!
Rachel moved to the small town to escape from her ex-fiancè, who had sold their business without consulting her. She felt he had disrespected her and had stolen her baby, for which she had worked so hard. So she simply left him, without a forwarding address. She took over her late aunt Rose's bakery, which became her new baby. She loved baking cakes & cupcakes. I loved her dedication to her new life and the way she made new friends. Not even a murder in her own business could stop her from finding the killer and continuing to promote her new business.
Loved all the baking and pets. The mysteries were good too, but admit, Rachel was my favorite amateur sleuth of the two. She was more level-headed, until her family was involved. Faith was younger and it showed, but her heart was in the right place. Each had their support group, and I'll have to try the desserts at the end of the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed both series in this box set. A little conflict between main characters in the beginning and a few murders across the books combined makes an awesome group of books to sit down and relax with on a lazy weekend. Good cozy read.
The books are ‘easy reads’ of the cosy crime genre. So far, so good. But the grammatical errors/ missing words etc. really start to grate after a while. Sometimes it reads like it has been badly translated from another language. Please proofread your work Nancy!
