About the author

Dick Mills (born 1936) is a British sound engineer, specialising in electronic sound effects which he produced at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. He is also the author of many books on aquaria and tropical fish, as well as a former editor of The Aquarist and Pondkeeper magazine and a member of the Federation of British Aquatic Societies Council.

This was my first ever aquaria book back in the 90's. I still have it. Good beginner guide and gives a good example of many popular fish available in the hobby.

This would be fine as a basic beginners introduction to the diversity of aquarium fish, but it undercuts itself with baffling choices of photos for many species. Many are only shown as juveniles or adults with extremely muted or nonexistent color and pattern, such that I find myself googling many species just to see what they actually look like.

a book focused on basic practical concepts for beginners. it does touch on fishkeeping theory though needing external sources to make the information whole.

also to note that the book is relatively outdated and the images used are sometimes that of juveniles without mention.

Just the basics and not much else. If you are looking for detailed information on what fish would work well in an aquarium, then look elsewhere.

Good
