"A fighting machine" was one of the terms folks used for Quentin Reed. He was "a man born for trouble" because he seemed, through no conscious effort, to gravitate to it, to fall into the middle of it, especially if a beautiful woman was involved.
Lewis Byford Patten was a prolific author of American Western Novels, born in Denver, Colorado. Often published under the names Lewis Ford, Len Leighto and, Joseph Wayne.
This gritty Western is filled with intense, graphic action scenes, likely comparable to R-rated films. The descriptions of setting and landscape are vivid and even poetic. The male protagonist is savage and righteous. His romantic interest is beautiful and just as, if not more, resilient. The Native Americans (Utes) are given more sympathetic treatment than many traditional Westerns do. All in all, a satisfying old-school oater.
