Like accidentally stumbling into heavy metal karaoke night, Jane knew this vacation was a disaster before it even started. Her first clue could have been the plane crash, but the spiral actually began hours before that, when it was decided they'd all travel together in a very small plane that Jill would pilot. Jane was immediately demoted in this cast to the role of plucky, comic relief. The whole island vacation had been Jane's idea, but as so often happened, as soon as the plan was set in motion, she lost control. So here we find our small group marooned in a tropical paradise -- set upon by Cheeto deprivation, amorous native girls, and scheming alligators!

Jane, Chele, Skye, and Jill go on a vacation trip together to the Florida Keys but before they reach their destination, their plane crash lands. Stuck on one of the 800 'large enough to be on the map' islands in the Keys, the four attempt to do stuff. Like sleep. Then some Polynesians show up (despite being in the wrong ocean for them to show up) and attempt to marry one of the Polynesian women to Jane. Jane want no part of this but the others press her into going through some 'tests' because they figure that this would be a way to get off the island. Eventually they run into 'shallow-breast guy' who is also on the island, along with a photographer and some bikini wearing models.
A funny continuation of the series. Though it should be noted that at no time do Chele and Jane walk in a river while carrying stuff over their heads like on the cover of the comic strip collection.
Jane's World may still feature a dizzying cast of characters - not having read the last volume in over two years, I could only recall a handful of them - but Paige Braddock wisely realizes that the decreased frequency of having gone to only publishing graphic novels meant that the overly complicated story strands needed to be simplified, with the ongoing subplots pared down to just the relationship and character arcs, and the plot elements simplified to something that could be told in a single book. Still present is Paige's ability to deftly move from the genuine and real (Chelle realizing that she's finally ready for a mature relationship) to ridiculously over-the-top wackiness (the four girls getting stranded on an island off the Florida Keys; Jane's addiction to junk food) and back again, which has been a hallmark of the series since its inception. As ever, a lot of fun.
