Everyone knows Jordan, Illinois, is a great news town, one of those places that seems to get more than its share of big news stories. But when the murder rate starts growing faster than corn in July, the staff of the Jordan Daily News suspects something is very wrong.
What a charmed life I've led, working for newspapers in four states, covering breaking news and world class entertainers. And I've saved the best for last, writing mystery/thrillers from the Florida Keys in the winter and a Michigan lakeside in the summer. Life is good. Thank you God.
As the author, this is a story I had to write. It haunted me for 25 years. Great News Town is fiction but it was inspired by a series of murders that occurred near Joliet, Ill., in 1983. I still remember the horror that overtook the town as the bodies were found...each incident more horrific than the last. Something was horribly out of control. Even when you've been warned, you know there are going to be a lot of murders, they still sneak up on you as you're reading along about that summer in a Chicago suburb, where the city dissolves into corn fields.
This was a book that was very interesting and easy to follow. This was a very exciting book that kept me on the edge of my seat. The plot of the book was very well written and easy to understand. I would recommend that anyone that can read this book. I hope it brings you as much excitement as it did me.
Great News Town was a book I couldn't read at night--I live alone and can't read things that make every noise sound like there's someone outside. But I was compelled to continue reading (during daylight hours) because I wanted to know what happened next. I enjoyed the book and recommend it to anyone who likes reading crime novels or mysteries.
As a fellow author, I can attest that this is a well-crafted, well-written book that captured my imagination right away and held it throughout the story. It not only gave me a peek into the life of a small-town journalist, it also had mystery, suspense, and a little love story mixed in -- a great who-done-it that kept me guessing throughout. I ended up staying up and reading most of the night; couldn't put it down. I'm so glad I also have the other two books in the series: One Shoe Off and Full Moon Friday. Can't wait to read them -- you should, too!
