In this second book in the addictive graphic novel series for tweens, Grace and Lola uncover more truths about romance and friendship at home, at school, and on an island holiday.
BFFs Grace and Lola are back in volume two of The Love Report. Grace tries to adjust to her parents' split, but dividing her time between two homes is no fun; Lola and Grace help Adele find a place to stay–an old factory–to escape her evil stepmother; and Lola wants to help Felicity after one of the boys begins harassing her, but it’s not easy. Summer comes just in time, and the change of season brings the girls and Adele to the island of Sardinia, where they continue to discover the ins and outs of love and romance far from home and school.
It has love ups and downs, and heartbreak and brake-up’s and crying in your room avoiding life, And are distant from people, and acting like life is a crappy , and man are a holes a lot of the time, and that is why I give this book a five start this book was not that long so good and read the first one that I will write about so I hope you read it please so hope you in joyed my report of my book so please read ✨✨✨
I love the trope of found family. I loved the intricacies and details within everyone’s character development and stories. Can’t wait til volume 3 is released!
I seriously love these characters. The artwork is stunning, and I love that the series touches on a lot of topics, not often seen in middle grade graphic novels.
I loved this book. The art is incredible. The story is really good. The characters and their emotional journey is relatable. The approach to normal teenager insecurities is extremely healthy.
I cannot believe how much I liked the second book. The experiences Grace, Lola, Adele, Charlie, and Felicity went through are so real; part of being a teenager: finding your people, cyberbullying, and learning about the ups and downs of love, the girls shows it all in this book. I especially love the planet of love concept where the author illustrates by describing what it is like to go through each phases of romance once one goes through it. It's such a genius idea for readers who are starting to find these things in their life and to read it with illustrations to show for it, the author definitely knows how to describe love relationships; never did I think it can be described the way the author described it! It definitely blew me away.
As always, this book leaves readers wanting to read more and to wonder what will happen next! It sure did for me. I wished the book was longer! I can't wait to pick up volume 3!
A bit boring. Kind of childish. Also unrealistic. I don’t think seventh graders would be dating or kissing. Also, they made the eighth graders look too big and so much older. The cliffhanger was kind of annoying and boring. +1 star because it’s cute and the illustrations are beautiful. I will read the next book though.
Lola and Grace are back after their adventures in The Love Report, and Grace is trying to figure out how to go back and forth between her divorced parents and stay organized. Their friend Darius rents the building where the kids had been working on their art, and Adele in particular is glad to have a space to paint murals. Sean is saying mean things to Felicity, and thinks that he can blackmail her into going out with him by telling her that all of the negative things being said about her will stop if she does. This is not an effective strategy, and just makes Felicity even more angry. Grace is interested in her new neighbor, Abe, who also plays guitar. When Adele is offered a chance to go to Sardinia to paint, she wants to take her friends with her. At first, they try to lie to their parents about who will be chaperoning, but once they are honest, they are allowed to go. In Sardinia, the local boys bother the girls, and Lola does not feel confident about her body, since she is skinny and not as developed as her friends. Charlie has decided to stay home, and her self involved parents leave her locked out of the house. She calls Lola and Grace, and they arrange for her to get help from Abe. The two both like anime, and develop a romance. Back in Sardinia, the girls gain some self confidence and are able to stand up to the local boys, and have a good trip.
This is a French import, and while there is a lot of good information about body positivity, relationships, and sexual harassment, a lot of it seems slightly odd, due to cultural differences. My students don't seem to mind; they ADORE this series, as well as Tessier's Chloe books, which come across the same way.
The Love Report books are more like manga than graphic novels, and are bound to be very popular with readers of Chmakova's Berrybrook Middle School or Hale's Best Friends. The artwork is particularly gorgeous.
As with the first book in this series, the illustrations are lovely and adorable, but don't let this and its bright colors fool you into thinking it's completely lighthearted. It does have its fun moments, but it also deals with cyberbullying, neglect, running away from home, self-doubt, and being self-conscious about your body. Some of these things are worked through and resolved, and here's hoping that the others move towards resolutions in the third volume!
As someone who loves red hair and freckles (my fiancée has both), I don't like that those are part of what the character doesn't like about themselves (at least they're mentioned in the first book; this book focuses more on the fact that one of the characters is developing more slowly/differently than her friends).
Despite the tough stuff it brings up, it was still an overall fun read, and I look forward to reading the next book in the series!
I thought I liked this more than the first volume, but then the ending got so ridiculous. I was getting annoyed. Like Grace is not a good friend and I thought she was going to have a thing with Abe?? So the ending really threw me off lol. The writing is bad and very stilted. The weirdness of it could be the translation, but like structurally the way it's plotted is bad. This has a lot of potential. The art is beautiful and the idea of it isn't bad, but the pacing is so off and it's like it can't decide if it wants to be geared towards younger or older teens. It mostly feels like younger though for sure. I really disliked that story they did about the planet of love. That felt so juvenile. Idk I just really dislike the way this book is. I like the idea of it, but it's executed really poorly.
Ok, so why did I give the artwork a 5 and the storyline a 3? Because there were too many loose ends from Volume 1 that were never even approached in Volume 2 besides a few frames, and I sorta felt let down. I was hoping for closure on at least some things, and instead, I get a whole host of new open-ended problems? And these are no small insignificant tween/teen problems; they're heavy and need more background to explain. Plus, we're adding more characters POVs to the original two, and the Love Report that this began with is nowhere in sight!?!? Just a lot of disappointment overall.
However, the artwork is beautiful and intricate and inspiring! I just can't stop flipping back and forth admiring the swirl of colors! Even though I found the "Planet of Love" tangential storyline very annoying and nonsenseical, the artwork was fabulous!
Loved this one just as much as Volume One. I just think this series has such a well-balanced plot line between light-hearted fun and more serious situations. I also think it does an excellent job of capturing what love growing up is like.
In Vol 2 we get to see Grace & Lola's friendship with Adele really blossom, we also get more Felicity (one of my favorites, I hope we have even more of her in Vol 3), and we learn more about Charlie's backstory which is actually kind of heart breaking. I think this one overall focuses more on the "love" you can find outside of romantic relationships which I appreciated.
We also have the highly UNrealistic plotline of parents allowing their young daughters to go to another country together without a single adult. I love it for the story though.
Themes / Representation: Friendship Love Family Travel Art Music School Relationships
This is one of those stories that I simply won’t remember anything about in a few months time. But I had a fun reading experience regardless! I don’t remember much from the first volume, but it was easy to remember the personality of each character once I started reading.
Super relatable teen experiences; love, heartbreak, falling out with friends and family etc. Although what parents let their teen children travel to Italy without parental / adult supervision??
I’m obsessed with the art style and colouring - truly my favourite part of this series! It’s worth picking up for that alone.
Dude!!!!! This was so super duper good! Oh my goodness. I love it. Dying to know who Adele was texting. I hope that it's Felicity. Adele loves her for who she is deep down. I absolutely LOVE the mural that Adele painted. Then when Grace notices the familiarity of the face of the wall, Adele SMILES I can't even. Just absolutely love this book. I feel really bad for Noah though. Like, yeah he sucks and made a crappy move, but, I mean, it was Sean. He sucks. I mean, we know that he can be pretty persuasive seeing what he told everyone about Adele. I mean, CHARLIE, the best of the best believed it. And that BS he did to her (Adele). And what he did to Felicity. HE SUCKS> NOAH DOESN'T. NOAH AND LOLAAAA WE LOVVEE <3
Addictive, readers will be left clamoring for book 3 of this series. In this installment, Adele invites Lola and Grace to travel with her to Sardinia for summer. Will Lola and Grace be able to convince the grown-ups in their lives that they are old enough for this adventure with Adele? What awaits Adele when she arrives in Sardinia? Was traveling there to meet a stranger who likes her art a good idea, what's the real reason he's interested in Adele?
I was excited to finally read the second book in the series. Nice to catch up with Lola and Grace and all their friends. Everyone is a bit older now, experiencing change, obstacles and even love. This time around I felt that the story was a bit choppy. It jumped from one story to another with each character, which left me trying to catch up with the story, like I missed a whole chunk. Once again I loved the illustrations, reminiscent of the Manga Classics volumes. Hopefully volume three will be better.
Grace and Lola are back to uncover more truths about romance and friendship in volume two of The Love Report. Grace tries to find balance with her parents’ split, but dividing her time between two different homes can be a headache. Lola and Grace help Adele find a place to stay, and Lola wants to help Felicity after one of the boys starts harassing her.
Summer comes just in time for the girls where it brings them to the island of Sardinia where they continue to discover the ins and outs and relationships.
The Love Report series focuses on girls in middle school (the grade they’d be in in America - though it’s set in France) as they navigate those first love butterflies and wonder. It’s really sweet. I absolutely love the artwork and the characters are genuine and realistic. Topics of bullying, divorce, step parents, and self image are talked about in this novel that are written appropriately for the age group it’s targeting.
This is one of those graphic novels that I will definitely be trying to get my hands on physical copies one of these days. The girls’ style is very French and you can see that within the panels (it just makes me smile).
Overall, I can see myself recommending this series to those who just love the cutesy, coming of age romances. I will be waiting anxiously for the third book.
2 1/2 stars rounded up I guess. The first one dealt with some really important topics and this one tried to touch on them too but there were just some really unrealistic plot points that kind of ruined it for me. Like what parent in their right mind is going to let 3 middle schoolers go off to Sardinia all on their own? Like come on now, at least pretend like Lola's mom or someone went along. Also how did Adele book/rent anything when she's just a kid? Also the "cliffhanger" ending was just kind of meh for me.

This one really leaned into the messy side of being a teen. I was kind of shocked and disappointed in their actions the whole time. I was surprised their parents let the kids go to Italy for the summer alone. I was surprised Felicity didn't get in trouble for spraying Sean in the face with spray paint. Like I loved her standing up for herself, but that was extreme. I was surprised Grace kissed one of those awful boys who were clearly tormenting Lola the whole time. Her head was up her butt the whole volume.
I want to see how this plays out, but it wasn't as good as the first one.
The Love Report Volume 1 was so popular with upper elementary/middle grades last year, I could barely keep it in long enough to read myself. I read volume 2 today, the day before students return, so I won't have to wait, as this will fly off the shelves for months. I think this is even better than V1, and is pitch-perfect for young teens and pre-teens who are interested in romance (so many of them are!) that is very realistic to early high school without any explicit scenes.
Again while some of the metaphors in this book skew a little immature, and while the message is a good one to send to kids exploring romance it can also come across a little like its pushing purity culture?
The artwork was stunning and really jumped to a whole other level with this volume. The stories themselves felt a little more mature and real and I honestly want to read the third volume to find out what happens after that cliff hanger
I just wrote a review of the first in this series. The second is also wonderful. It continues the adventures of the same characters. My students and I cannot wait for the third volume to come out! Please see my review of the first one for questions about this series, but I really love it and recommend it highly.
I really like this volume. I am kinda happy I didn’t drop this series. I’m enjoying the development of characters and their relationships with each other. Looking forward to volume 3!!!
