In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world's most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random! The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him! But he's not the best at following orders...
Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
Vol 22 is the wrap up and end of the fight to save Captain Obi. The fight was kind of anti-climatic while the characters rehash their personal beliefs about faith and the end of the world. With Captain Burns admitting he just wants the world to end and his prayers and loyalty to the church and empire were always empty. Which is just a waste of what was once a wonderful character. In the end while Captain Obi is saved the White Clad just lose interest and wander away even though they won the fight. This volume was very unsatisfying.
Vol 23 is the final final bit of the fight started in volume 21. Then we follow the bondage captain of squad 5… err sorry follow Captain Hibana back to the convent where she grew up. Her entire art style and look has changed to that much closer to sister Iris. I guess to show how she has changed since her first introduction – I don’t think she called anyone gravel.
Then we get taken an actual and real side quest to get replacement parts for Arthur’s sword focus. It is the dumbest waste of time filler ever. The jokes about how dumb Arthur is are repeated a lot. But for some reason they find, while exploring the Nethers or the old underground areas of Tokyo, Arthur’s parents and more family. The family runs away a few issues into the volume. At which point I was thinking that could have been two pages!!!
IDK, there is also some plotting among the companies. The White Clad are also plotting because it appears they have won and nothing can be done to save the world now.
Vol 24. The fight to save the world begins. Sho escapes the clutches of the bad guys. There is a bunch of talking and then near the end of the volume is some really dumb stuff about a giant infernal and the army is just going to shoot it and blow up a giant pillar that appears just off shore.
This all ends in a cliffhanger.
At this point, as I wait for the next volume, I fear this story is not going to stick the landing. But I have been wrong before. I mean it is not bad.
