Violence chose me a long time ago…

Survival isn’t everything. I’ve fought to protect my family. I’ve bled for them, killed for them, and gone to jail for them. There is no fight I will not take on for them…

I’ve been waging this war since I was seven years old. The only thing that’s changed is the battlefield itself.

For Mayhem, I’ll trade in the grime of the streets for the illusions of her shimmering world. Only all that glitter is hiding a well of sin and corruption that leaves blood in its wake. This isn’t my world, but I won’t be defeated by it.

I may have lost battles before, but I won’t lose this one. If that means I have to drown in darkness, then it’s a price I’m willing to pay.

BATTLE LINES is a full-length mature dark, new adult romance with enemies-to-lovers/love-hate themes. Please be aware some situations may be uncomfortable for readers. Trigger warnings can be found in the foreword should you require them. This is book two in a six book series that is a why choose with multiple new adults exploring and coming to terms with their evolving sexuality, identities, and relationships.

I love books. Not just a little bit, but a lot. Books were my best friends when I was growing up. Books didn’t care if I was new to a town or to a class. They were always there, my trustiest of companions. Until they turned on me and said I had to write them.

I can tell you that my own personal happily ever after included writing books. I’ve always said that an HEA is a work in progress. It’s true in my marriage, my friendships, and in my career. I am constantly nurturing my muse as we dive into new tales, new tropes, new characters and more.

After seventeen years back in Texas, we relocated to the Pacific Northwest in search of seasons, new experiences, and new geography. I can’t wait to discover what life (and my muse) have in store for me.

Maybe writing was always my destiny and romance my fate. After all, my grandmother wasn’t a fan of picture books and used to read me her Harlequin Romance novels.

Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, friends to enemies to lovers, you name it, I love them and love to write them. I started with Earth Witches Aren’t Easy, the first in the Chance Monroe trilogy, but my characters and I have traveled a long way since I created that urban fantasy world.

One of the series I hear my readers recommend the most is the Untouchable series followed in quick succession by the Vandals, and that just delights me. No lie, whenever one of my readers brings up my wolves, I do a little a fist pump.

I’m active on social media, and I love hearing from readers. Feel free to tag me with a question about any of my books, or just say hi!

I absolutely love Lainey and her guys. Milo has come a long way from being the jerk that kept trying to send Ivy away. I already knew Lainey was fierce and protective from her relationship with Emersyn. I love Milo and Lainey together, they’re so passionate and perfect together. Ezra is a jerk, but I already knew that too lol. Adam and Ezra also have the fierce protectiveness, but they hide it behind cruel words and bad attitudes. I was sooooooo stoked when Bodhi showed up. I adore him and his unique brand of insanity. There are tons of unanswered questions as always in the midst of a series from Heather, but I’m so excited to get answers in the next books

OMG , OMG , OMG. I need the next book. Once again I was completely hooked on this series/universe. Lainey and her guy's are just everything. I swooned throughout especially with Pretty Boy. This book was action-packed and had my emotions allover the place. That ending has me desperately waiting for the next book. It was an incredible addition to this series and I will be shouting from the rooftops about this book/universe. If I could I'd rate it more than five stars , I loved every second of it.

Freaking Amazing

This is technically book 2 of Heather Longs newest series Bay Ridge Royals. Book 1 is a short novella that only features Lainey and Milo. This book is full story length and we get multiple POV’s but I’m not saying who’s we get 😏 there will be no spoilers here

Battles Lines

I thoroughly enjoyed battle lines. It's a book/Series I've been looking forward to for a while. With characters from Heather Longs Vandals world. It does say the intention is that you don't have to read that serious to read this one but I think it's best read if you have read that series first. All the main characters are introduced in that series. This series does start off with a novella that is labeled as book one that takes place during the vandals series and gives you more insight into Milo and Laniey and how the relationship starts. With this book starting off with them together. I really enjoyed that fact that we start off with her in a relationship. She has these other relationships that she's always had that haven't necessarily been romantic throughout her life with Adam and Ezra. And I have just been waiting for that to be explored and so excited from everything that we've learned in the Vandals about them. So while going through their stories relationship it's nice that she has Milo. That's what I love about RH different relationships and different pacing and it's easier and more enjoyable to read the angst of another relationship while there is a more stabilizing one at the time lol. There's also a surprise appearance for my character that is beloved that's all I will say so I don't spoil it for anyone. I really like the plot of this series the dirty a mysteriousdealings of high society. Very interested to see where things go with the setup of Kings, mysterious woman, the parents of the characters and more. So it's interesting working through the relationships and what these end games are in this series. I was wrapped up in the book from beginning to end I put it down to sleep and then picked it back up before work and finished it quickly. I just wish it was longer because I want more and I'm so excited for more when it comes. Highly recommend.

5/5 What?!?! I am so happy for Lainey and Milo, but Adam and Ezra are making me so angry! Bohdi is seriously unhinged and I love it! That ending though...

I have read the 82’nd street vandal series, and I loved everything about it.
This didn’t reach the same level.

I understand the book needs to be written differently since we are no longer following Emersyn’s story, but Lainey’s. However, the way Adam and Ezra treated Lainey went very much against the image the author painted in regard to how a woman should be treated in the other series. And this takes place in the same world where all these people are acquaintances, and even friends, so I wasn’t really here for the fact that they would be love interests.

In the Vandal series the guys were beyond respectful of anything physical, sexual and emotional. Especially when those things went together. In this, Ezra had sex with Lainey, and told her it was a mistake right after, and then left. And it hadn’t been the first time. It also happened when he was on the island with her.
He didn’t even seem to understand how it had hurt her when Milo stood up to him, and she forgave Ezra after, like, one conversation. And when he said he needed to know he could kiss her again and hold her or something similar, she said she wasn’t saying he couldn’t do it again.

Adam had also treated her badly. We find out the reasons why. But it does not justify it.
Through her whole life they have kept any guy away from her, and hovered over her whilst pushing her away and being cruel at the same time. And as they made sure no guy would ever touch her, or she could enter a relationship with someone, they had turned around and had whoever they wanted.
I do not find that trope attractive. It can be sweet that they would keep guys away to protect her, especially when they want her. But I only find it hypocritical to deny her the right to be with whomever she wants, when they ignore and hide their feelings for her and go and indulge themselves inside someone else.

I loved Bodhi, as I did in the Vandal’s, and I loved how open her relationship with Milo was, even though I found everything they did incredibly repetitive. He would dress up in fancy clothes and go to balls, galas, charity events and stuff like that. And he just seemed so uncomfortable through all of it. And out of place. I don’t know..it didn’t feel right, because it felt like they both were constantly trying to be someone they weren’t.

The end of the book is intriguing enough, though Milo leaving her didn’t leave me with this huge hole in my heart, or particularly saddened.
I just felt like they didn’t talk much about deep stuff, and truly get to know each other the way I wanted.
I am however going to be pissed off if King makes Milo do a lot of horrible shit just to prove who is in charge.
I mean I know they are all well versed in killing people and all, but it is different when they are doing it of their own free will, and being forced to do it as an assignment.

I am just really hoping Adam and Ezra will change their ways, I hope Bohdi will be a bigger part of the next book, I hope they will all bond more, and get closer to each other - emotionally. And I actually hope they involve the Vandals in some way, cause Lainey and Milo - even Ezra and Adam were involved in Emersyn’s story. And Milo are very close to the Vandals, but in this book it was like he was completely separate from them, other than one conversation with Liam.

This could have been better, and I need the next one to be.

I am so excited to get Lainey's story. I loved her character in the Vandals series, which I highly recommend reading before this series. This series will still make sense, but it will enhance your experience with more of a background on Lainey, Milo, Ezra, Adam, and Bohdi

This book perfectly sets up the world and the game board and players. Or battlefield, really, because they are at war. These rich families are brutal. Each move these characters make can have big consequences.

Lainey is such a loyal and honest person. This is something I already saw with her friendship with Em, but see even more of with her relationship with Milo. She may wear a mask at social events, but when it comes to her personal relationships, she is as open and honest as she possibly can be.

Milo is not used to this world. People are still dangerous, but in a different way than in Braxton Harbor. He is learning to play the game quickly and is fiercely protective of those he cares about.

Adam and Ezra seem to be floundering. They are each trying to figure out their next move in the game they are trapped in. Even though they are not as connected as they used to be, their main goal remains the same. Protect Lainey at all costs.

Bohdi is a wild card doing his own thing. He seems willing to help the guys and Lainey. He is a fun, chaotic, and at the same time direct character, I can't wait to see more of.

Heather is amazing at making you feel her characters happiness and then ripping it away. Even small things can feel devastating. I love it, and I hate it at the same time. But I always come back for more. This world and these characters are addicting.

Battle Lines is the 2nd book in the Bay Ridge Royals series and I am absolutely loving the more in depth look into Lainey's world. We are treated to the deliciously dark side of society, the glitz and glamour and even a round of golf.

I think Lainey will be a force to be reckoned with in the aftermath of the ending and I don't think she will be playing it safe or taking a step back anymore. And for that I can not wait!!!! Considering how Milo grew up, I want to say that he seems to be handling high society..... fairly well, but typical of our boy, and thank god, he does have his "Raptor" moments. Oh swoooon!!! I'm still not sure what to make of Adam and Ezra yet and obviously there are reasons as to why they are the way they are, but I wish they would pull their heads out of their...... And I think Deceptive Truce might just be their time to shine. And then there is Bodhi. I don't even know what to think of him. I thought he was mysterious in the Vandals but now..... even more so. I think I definitely need his back story to figure him out.

I think Lainey's grandfather is going to be an awesome ally. A few new faces, some already seem to be foes but one "new" character, whos face we technically haven't "seen" before, I have SSSOOOO many theories. And then there is the King and like always, I just want to throat punch him. At the very least for his impeccably selfish timing. Aarrrgghhh. The man makes me want to scream. Rant over.

While the ending wasn't as brutal as it could have been, it was a little heartbreaking. But as always, I willingly wait patiently and accept the next book may well pulverise me. In the best way of course!!!! Can't wait.x

Okay Heather, I thought I disliked the King enough in Vandals, yet somehow that’s grown exponentially at the end of Battle Lines - someone call the Cardinal Sins gang for a takeout so Milo can get his happily ever after *cries*

I absolutely adore this series, it feels like a warm hug every time I turn the page. I love that we met Lainey, Milo, Ezra, Adam and Bodhi (AHHH what a lovely surprise) in Vandals. (P.S whilst it’s not necessary to read this series first, 10/10 recommend diving in if you haven’t whilst you’re waiting for the next instalment here!) I also love the catching up with others (Liam, be still my heart) and also the little side nod to a certain Standish (hi Archie).

Lainey is so fierce I absolutely love her so much, also can we take a moment for the communication in this book? 10/10! No unnecessary (because sometimes it is needed) miscommunication trope here. Milo oh how I love how fiercely protective you are. Then there’s Adam, who I am so intrigued about what he’s got going on after a certain house call, but a question was answered there of who took Em and Rome from Vandals.. I had a feeling when she turned up on page it was for a reason but I wasn’t expecting that!

Ezra.. oh my poor damaged soul. I love that he realised he messed up and really hurt Lainey, I just hope he keeps his word. Also that nickname!? Swoon! Bodhi oh how I was not expecting you but I am so thrilled!!! I think in these group of possessive alphaholes you are going to be some much needed chaos. I can’t wait to watch the developments between the guys grow, I love it when in a why choose they aren’t all besties at the beginning!

I never doubted that I would love this one too.

Okay, so this was obviously another great book from Heather Long.( she can do no wrong!) Loved the first novella, same with this one. I am so freaking happy Bodhi is part of this. I'm loving Milo, always have. I love how Lainey is with him, he deserves and needs her. So Adam, I don't know enough to read him, but he doesn't upset me. Now Ezra, this is where I was surprised. In the Vandel series he came off as the jokester, I was fond of him. In this book I wasn't expecting what I got from Ezra. Maybe I didn't like that he was stepping on Milo's toes? I not sure what it is. Anyway.... Here is my complaint (this is a first for me w/ one of Heather's books😳) the ending I don't understand. *********SPOILERS********************************************************It was never stated that the Royal's could recruit against someone's will, right? I'm so annoyed by this part, it makes no sense-- to me. So for Milo to get up, and leave ugh extreme, and honestly I thought it was crazy the even agreed to speak w/ him. For sure thought Milo wouldn't have given him the time of day. Ugh, I'm so frustrated, it didn't make sense to me. Like they said some possible recruits moved, oh, I believe it was Archie from the Untouchable series. I can't remember who the last name Greyson belongs to though. Okay, I'm done sorry for venting and rambling.

This book surprised me in the very best way. I already liked Lainey from what I saw of her in the Vandals series. I knew she was a loyal, ride-or-die friend to Emersyn, and that she takes no prisoners when it comes to getting what she wants, particularly when it comes to protecting those she cares about. This book shows us her hidden depths. I never thought she was shallow, but there is much more to her than what she shows on the surface. I absolutely adore her.

The guys were mostly who I expected to see, again, from what we see in Vandals. Getting inside their heads was fascinating and yielded a few surprises. I enjoyed getting insight into the dynamics of the relationships between the guys. I’m not naming names, but one or two of the guys needs a good 🫏kicking before I can accept them as being good enough for Lainey. One of them has already proved himself and has my approval, and another one has my undying devotion before he’s even indicated an interest in Lainey that way 😂

The mysteries are intriguing and while a couple continued from the end of Em’s story, the rest are new and equally fascinating. There is a fair amount of spice that’s pretty darn 🥵 and I can’t wait to see what happens when things heat up!

The ending is a cliffhanger, but not a completely devastating one (this is not meant as a challenge, Heather 😅 ) I can’t wait to read more!

We've been waiting for what seems like forever for this book to drop! We loved Lainey and Milo, i.e. Meyhem and Pretty Boy, in 82 Street Vandals. We loved them in Shamelessly Loyal. It was nothing compared to how much we love them in Battle Lines!

Lainey's journey continues in Heather Long's second book of the Bay Ridge Royals series. It's such a wild ride. Lainey's character development is superb, and her relationships with her guys are taking exciting twists and turns. We finally start to understand their choices and their feelings for Lainey. The world building adds so much depth and connection to the story. You literally love them, hate them, and then love them again! 😍💔

The chemistry between Lainey and Milo has NEVER been more fiery! It is off the charts, making for a scintillating and passionate story. While most of the other guys are in the background right now, Heather Long is weaving their stories, into this new rich and compelling world.

As is Heather's norm, this book concludes with a tantalizing cliffhanger that will leave you eager for more. Heather Long has a knack for keeping her readers hooked, and I can't wait to see what surprises she has in store for Lainey and her men!! 🔥🥂

5/⭐
3.5/ 🔥

***The spice was definitely spicy! But for this author, she does a lot of world building in the beginning and the books build up to MORE 🔥🔥🔥 #iykyk

Heat: 3/5

Man, Heather long knows how to weave a wondrous, twisty, heart-breaking tale. This is only book 2, and I’m already near tears. The character depth and development, the interactions, emotions, everything was just amazing and well-written. Reading this book made me nostalgic for the Vandals, and I might have to do yet another reread of my favorite series.

Battle Lines is book 2 in the series, so Shamelessly Loyal should be read first. In Battle Lines, we learn just how cold and calculating Lainey’s world truly is. Everyone is a pawn and a player, whether they know it or not. Lainey was groomed by her grandfather to be the most immaculate player in the field: the walls go up and it takes a lot for them to come down. Until Milo. And Ezra. And Adam.

I am so excited to see where this series takes us. Just in those 3 guys, there are a billion and one tropes that I just swoon over: stepbrother, brother’s best friend, age gap, Excon, best friend’s brother, bad boy/princess, OTT possessive/jealous, cinnamon roll, secret society to name a few lol. I’ve been wanting a taste of Lainey’s story and I’ve been so hungry to know more about Adam and Ezra that I’m beyond thrilled to be able to read this book.

Can’t wait to read more!

After reading 82 Street Vandals, you couldn’t not love Lainey, and most of all Emersyn’s brother, Milo. Reading book 1 you got a glimpse of them together and how even with everything going on, their relationship started out. Battle Lines, I have loved reading every second of it, getting to see Lainey and Milo further on in their relationship but with hurdles in their way. Milo as an overprotective brother made my ovaries go into overdrive, but seeing how protective he is of Lainey, and just the way he is with her, made me melt. He is the definition of book boyfriend material. Lainey intrigues me, Smart and knows how to play the game, but her loyalty is what makes me like her most. I can’t wait to see how everything unfolds and melds together, waiting for all the fireworks that will come with Ezra and Adam. I’ve really enjoyed getting to see more and learning more about them than their previous appearances. I am praying that a certain someone is added to Lainey’s men, although I’m still rooting for him to be mine. I can’t wait to read more of this series. Loved it!

Loyalties and Dedications are tested!
Ooo there’s a lot of angst and drama between Laineys possible men in this book 😬 we know that Pretty Boy is very much on Lainey’s corner from the prequel and this certainly carries on into this book, Milo is enamoured with our girl and is willing to show her 🥰
Then we have Ezra, we learn of their past encounters throughout this book and his hot and cold nature - he certainly is intense 🔥 and then we have Adam there’s a rocky history there and Lainey is holding onto a lot of disappointment…but boy is that man possessive 😍 they’re all vying for Lainey’s attention and they do NOT like each other which leads to some interesting encounters 🙈
We also start to get wider insights into the games that are being played and the sacrifices that some have given 😦 and then there’s Bodhi who seems to be up to his own agenda for who knows what!
What more can Lainey take from her men especially after Kings newest demands 😩
A great mix of intrigue and angst here ☺️

I was so excited to dive into this book and really get into Lainey’s story. I’ve loved Lainey since she was introduced in the Vandals series. There are so many things going on in Lainey’s world that I was just trying to keep track of it all. I can’t wait to see what Heather Long has planned for these characters in this elitist world because I know she’s going to throw twists at us throughout this series.

I liked Lainey but I absolutely loved Milo! He is perfection. He’s a bad boy but has such a soft spot for Lainey and shows a more vulnerable side of himself when he’s around her. He’s also fiercely protective. What more could you want in a book boyfriend? I like Adam and definitely want more of him. Bodhi really intrigues me and I can’t wait to see how he’s going to fit in with this group. Ezra drove me crazy in this book but I’m sure he will grow on me throughout the series.

This book does end with a cliffhanger that isn’t too painful but will definitely have you excited for book three. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen. I’m already making my predictions!

The backstory for this group can be found in the 82nd Street Vandals series and Shamelessly Loyal, which is a novella crossover for the two. This story starts a little ways down the road with Lainey and Milo together. However, he is not the only one she has feelings for. She has a past with Ezra, her stepbrother Adam’s best friend, but Adam would like to have a part in her future as well. As the intrigue around Lainey grows, other group leaders start to take notice and want her under them, including Milo’s father who Ezra is under; Adam is under someone else who has also taken a notice. I love how steadfast and accepting of changes Milo is, but they would all do anything for Lainey and have proven it. I hope Adam and Ezra listened to what Lainey said and will support her and not try to control. I am looking forward to seeing where Bodhi comes into play. Thankfully, the cliffhanger was not too bad, but I am still excited to see what happens in the next book. I can’t wait to see the relationships between Lainey and the guys develop.

Intense secret society RH read...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶☠️☠️☠️
Well damn Battle Lines had me in a choke hold from start to finish. First full length book in Bay Ridge Royals, and it absolutely lived up to its title. We finally have distinct enemies and their factions. But machinations in a world already established, and gossip is currency, has caused unseen issues and outcomes. Promises made that can't be kept because they never looked further or understood the game. Now Milo and Lainey face the unknowable. Adam and Ezra are pawn on the board. Bodhi is being Bodhi.
I can't wait for Deceptive truth, and just like 82nd Street Vandals, Bay Ridge Royals is going to be epicastic.
Secret society. Best friend's brother. Why choose romance. Trigger warnings. Found family. Forced Proximity. Lovable psycho. Alphahole. Possessive male. Step brother. Step brother's best friend.

TITLE: Battle Lines
GENRE: Dark Romance
AUTHOR: Heather Long
TROPE: Why Choose, Enemies-to-Lovers
TYPE: Series (Bay Ridge Royals Book 2)
POV: Multiple POV
MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 / 5

That was quite the cliffhanger; I am now officially counting down the days to see what happens next when Deceptive Truce is released.
I love Lainey (Mayhem) and her relationship with Milo (Pretty Boy). Plus, I am all for her complex relationships with Ezra & Adam, which I need to know more about ASAP.

Battle Lines was full of angst and the twists I love; the storyline riveted me, and I did not want to put it down. There was spice, but I never felt like it was too much. Overall, I enjoyed Battle Lines and look forward to seeing more of these characters in the future. Heather Long has found herself a new fan of her writing. I am giving a rating of 4.5 / 5 Stars.

This book opens with Milo and Lainey 'Mayhem' attending a formal event at a museum. They are mingling, which I never thought I'd be saying in terms of Milo, but there it is. When Lainey is asked to dance by someone named Sivan, she cleverly accepts for a single dance. It's then Milo is approached by his father, Julius King, also known as 'The King' of the Bay Ridge Royals.

When Lainey returns to them, she is polite to King, but then starts walking away with Milo. She abruptly apologizes to Milo and throws her drink in his face, turns and walks away.

Milo's dance with the unknown older woman, raised my hackles for some reason, I have a feeling she will be important later since she doesn't give her name.

The appearance of Ezra does nothing for Milo's mood and he would persuade Lainey to leave if it wasn't for the actual reason they are here. There's a private auction that Lainey is to bid on and win a painting for her grandfather. Ezra's antics go even further at the auction as he tries to prevent Lainey from bidding, only to be stopped by Milo.

Ezra also warns Lainey that they don't have Adam as back up anymore, and as she glances around, she realizes she has no friends in the room. The next thing we know Lainey has a bodyguard sent by him.

The first glimpse we get of Andrea is a note from her manipulating Adam to purchase a horse for her. I got quite the kick out of that. Then Ezra shows up at Adam's drunk and quite opinionated with regard to Milo.

We meet Lainey's grandfather and I love him! He seems to like Milo although he still has reservations about him since he's King's son.

We meet Adam's father and uncles as well, I don't like them at all, they seem to be conniving something with every word out of their mouths.

I was quite surprised and pleased when Bodhi shows up, I really liked him in Vandals, and I think I'm going to like him even more in this series.

The maze of Lainey's world is so very different from Milo's however the problems are mostly the same just with more money involved. Andrea is young and filled with ambitions. Both Adam and Lainey will do anything to protect her from the reality that surrounds this world.

As this is the first full length novel in this series there's much setting of the stage. We know they need to take down the King, but there's more in play as well. Lainey and Milo sizzle off the pages, Ezra does his share of sizzle here too, and Adam just gives a hint of what's to come.

The ending almost had me throwing the book across the room, as I screamed NO! But I know Heather meant to do that, she always means to do that, just leave us hanging with that kind of thing. I have to keep in mind it could have been worse...

With the Sharpe family out of the picture, a void exists with the Benedicts, Reeds Grahams, and even the Cavendishes eager to step in; not to mention the King and Mrs. Waldemar. Lainey's grandfather has instructed her from an early age how to survive in their society; how to play the games of the rich and powerful. It's a world where information is a currency of its own. There's a power struggle, a war brewing, and Lainey is determined not to be kept in the dark any longer. Milo would prefer her to be far away from the danger but she has made up her mind. And where Lainey is, Milo will be beside her. This keeps him close to his father and keeps his father away from Ivy. Milo's entire life has been a battlefield. The only difference this time is that he's trading grime for glitter. For Mayhem, he's discovering he will do anything.

I love Mayhem and her Pretty Boy. Their relationship did not disappoint. Milo has always made me swoon. The man is strength personified. His life has been difficult from the first and he became a man as a child. The way he loved and protected Ivy touched my heart. I can still picture the little boy caring for his baby sister; holding her and trying to dry her tears. I loved him from the start. It would be impossible to find a man more loyal or protective. The man gave up his dreams, put his life on hold, and sacrificed for his chosen family. Now it's his time to find happiness. Of course, it's going to be a dangerous journey. He and Lainey are perfect together. Ivy/Emerson might have been what brought them into the same world and while it may seem they have little in common, that's only superficial. Inside, they share the same values and priorities. They connect at every level and each seems to slot into the other's world easily. They seem two halves of one soul. Not sure the other men will ever measure up to Pretty Boy. I didn't care for Adam or Ezra in the Vandal's series and my opinion didn't begin to shift in this book. They are not love material. Prove me wrong Heather. Bodhi is awesome. I love his brand of murderous crazy but I don't picture him as a love interest; more like the close friend who will help bury the body. I did like how their stories started weaving together.

I thought this book moved a little too slowly. Heather's writing is excellent, her characters are always fully developed, and she's a wonderful storyteller. However, the political set-up made for slow pacing, and with everyone keeping secrets and never sharing, it started to drag in spots. Naturally, there was a cliffhanger but it wasn't entirely unexpected and will definitely impact the power balance.

Battle Lines: Where Love Meets Chaos!

Welcome to a world where violence isn't a choice, it's a way of life. Survival? It's more than a game for them—it's a war. Family comes first, and they've bled, killed, and even done time for the ones they love. The battlefield might change, but the fight remains the same.
Having been a fan of the Vandals series, I eagerly delved into this installment, and it exceeded all expectations.

For those acquainted with the Vandals series, 'Battle Lines' promises an enhanced experience, offering a deeper understanding of beloved characters like Lainey, Milo, Ezra, Adam, and Bohdi. The story is a battlefield where loyalty, honesty, and brutal consequences shape the lives of these characters.

Lainey's character shines as a beacon of loyalty and honesty, her personal relationships contrasting with the masked facade she wears at social events. Milo, new to this dangerous world, quickly learns the rules of the game and fiercely protects those he cares about.

Adam and Ezra grapple with their own challenges, trying to navigate a game with high stakes. Their unwavering commitment to protect Lainey adds a layer of tension and complexity to the narrative. Bohdi, the wild card, injects chaos and intrigue, leaving readers eager for more.

Heather Long's writing is a rollercoaster of emotions, skillfully conveying happiness and heartbreak. The dark and mature romance is evident, exploring enemies-to-lovers and love-hate themes. The forewarning about potential discomfort and trigger warnings showcases the author's consideration for readers.

The provided excerpt hints at a world where glitter hides sin and corruption, and the characters must pay a high price for survival. 'Battle Lines' is not just a story; it's an immersive experience into a world where identities, relationships, and evolving sexuality take center stage.

This is book 2 in the Bay Ridge Royals series. If you enjoy dark, new adult romance with contemporary and reverse harem elements, Battle Lines is a must-read. Heather Long crafts a narrative that's hard to shake off, lingering in your thoughts even after you've put the book down. Battle Lines is where love meets chaos, and it's one thrilling, unapologetic read.

The thing that sets Heather Long's various series apart for me is that she definitely plays the long game. Nothing is rushed and although at times during this I was ready for the pacing to kick up a notch I am trusting the process as I know the payoff has to be earned first! This felt like setting the board for what's to come and getting to know the key players and whose side they are on.

Lainey is awesome; I liked her and Milo in the Vandal's series but I loved them in this. We've seen how protective Milo is before but what I enjoyed about this is that you can see how he has developed from his experiences with Emersyn and has learned from his mistakes. Caging Lainey is not going to work! Ezra is just not for me at the moment; he may have good intentions but I am 100% with Milo on how he is treating Lainey. Adam is a bit of a mystery currently and I am looking forward to hearing more of his backstory. Bodhi though? I adore him and was thrilled for his POVs. He was a standout side character in Vandals and I am so happy he's crossed over! King too; I still want to know what his game plan is with Milo (after the events in Vandals) as Heather has proved she can do amazing redemption arcs for her characters and I'm interested to see where he's going to end up.

Although this is a series in it's own right there is enough mentioned about the Vandals books that you could put the pieces together without reading it first. I'd definitely recommend reading it though as the easter eggs in this are great.

My interpretation of the star system;

3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely and I have added all the authors works to my TBR!

This is book 2 in the Bay Ridge Royals Series and this is also a companion series to Heather's 82nd Street Vandals series. While you do not need to read that one in order to understand what is happening, I do suggest you start there because there is a lot of backstory and characters you will meet here that will make more sense if you have that information.

Oh Heather.....you have hooked me with another series that I will devour. We are finally seeing the backstory to Lainey, the ride or die friend of Em. She is the friend we all want in our lives. Loyal to a fault and the most amazing person ever. She is tough but I think she is going to have to pull up her bootstraps to get through what is coming. This one sets up the stage for the entire series. We got a chance to see the main characters and villains of the story and I think we could find out some surprises along the way. Milo has been a favorite of mine since the Vandals and he is a fierce protector that will do whatever it takes to see that the ones he loves are protected...Ezra...he makes me so mad sometimes and needs to get it together and Adam is along the same lines but a tiny bit better... I need more from them and I thing we just might get it in the next book. Brodhi is a conundrum for me. I loved seeing him come back and am excited to see where his story arc goes. All in all, I am loving this new series and can't wait to see where Heather will rip out my heart as she has a tendency of doing that. This one leaves on a cliffy but not as bas as some I have read. I am looking forward to the next and will be anxiously awaiting the story. This one get 5 explosive stars from me.

****Please check content warnings before diving in as there are some dark themes in this book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the story of Lainey, Milo, Ezra and Adam with the addition of Bodi in this book. You will need to read the first book in the series Shamelessly Loyal. It is a novella size book and I feel like it is important to know some things in that book to really get everything in this book. If you love your female main characters fierce and loyal then you are going to love Lainey. You will just love her and there is a lot going on in this book I don't know that I want to get into everything because I feel like you need to go into it blind and just enjoy the ride that that it is. Milo is still super protective of Lainey. That is never going to change and I love that face so much. I feel like they are so perfect together. Adam is the mystery but never fear you will know all you have been wanting to know before you close this book. Ezra, Oh Ezra, you just wanna wrap this guy up in your arms and hold one forever. He is so damaged and the man messes up so bad. But I am really holding me breath wanting him to keep the promises he made so badly. I really hope that he doesn't break my heart. Then we have Bodi who was the best surprise ever. He is the one they never knew they needed in their lives and I just adored him more than I can say. All of them are not what they become by the end of this book and I was living for the conflict and they getting to know each other and things that kept me really glued to this book. Now I need the next book in my hands. I can not wait to find out what happens next.

GAH I have been SO excited about this Vandals spin-off series ever since we met Milo and Lainey in the 82nd Street Vandals world. And Heather delivers a deliciously enticing start to their story- AND I NEED MORE!

Heather always deliver such feisty and compelling heroines- I mean, they gotta be when they have to wrangle so may alpha men, LOL. But she also always gives them emotional substance and depth, and I can already tell Lainey's complexity is just pouring off the pages. I adored her toughness and fire from the moment we met her, and I'm exhilarated to have a glimpse of the story to come from this novella and the first foray into the Bay Ride Royals Series. It's a perfect cross over.

BUT MILO. I've had a soft spot from him from the start. Like legit creepily wanted him in the harem because I wanted to experience book boyfriend Milo..which obvi EW because he's Emersyn's brother, but he's just that compelling. I AM THIRSTY FOR HIM- and I already love his dynamic with Lainey. These two tough and fierce characters are going to be brought to their knees by the others, and it's gonna be a hella wild ride.

I'm curious to see who elese will get into the mix, I'm oddly protective over this pairing given that we're starting with a focus on their connection, so other players are gonna have to really sparkle for me to want them at the table. But I trust in Heather. The chemistry between these two burns the pages, and I'm ready (and nervous LOL) for what Heather has in store in this new series.

This is a wonderful follow-up to 82nd Street Vandals. I love Milo, and it is wonderful to see how his story evolves. But this book is breaking my heart. I want to love Lainey, but she has poor judgment. I don't understand how Lainey. She was living with Milo and effectively sharing her life with him. But Ezra comes to her home drunk on a night when Milo is out. She has sex with Ezra, someone with whom she hasn't had any recent connection. It felt like cheating. She didn't honor her relationship or implied commitment to Milo. When she tells Milo, his request was to tell him before she had sex with Ezra again if she decided she wanted to have a sexual relationship with Ezra.

Milo sacrifices his freedom to protect Lainey and her baby sister. While he was effectively indentured to "The King" Ezra lets himself into her apartment, and she knowingly has sex with Ezra again, breaking her agreement to Milo. I don't care that she tells Milo. He is suck an honorable loving man. But Lainey doesn't seem to be able to give up a brief, transient sexual experience with Ezra to honor Milo. The book breaks my heart for him. I don't respect Lainey. Her conduct makes my heart ache for Milo. He deserves to be loved. After all of Milo's sacrifices, I wish a woman loved him with the same depth he offers. Lainey doesn't appreciate the gift of Milo's dedication and loyalty.

I like Reverse Harem books, but I like it when the characters are all on the same page. Lainey is taking advantage of Milo's beautiful, loving heart. Her sexual relationship with Ezra makes me sick to my stomach.

I've been so excited to get my hands on this series. 82nd Street Vandals is one of my all time most favorite series on the planet so getting another series that is in the same world is like being wrapped in a warm blanket. It makes my heart so happy. What else made me happy was getting to dive deeper into the relationships Lainey is developing between her and her guys. Getting more of an understanding behind why a few of them have acted the way they always have toward her is starting to make sense. It doesn't make it any better, but I really like that Lainey listened with grace and patience when she called them out.

Lainey has had to play the game most of her life. She's crazy smart, super loyal and sees more in people than they see in themselves. What she is building with Milo is so precious and I think what they both need. And I have a feeling that even though I'm unsure of Ezra now, that I'll be routing for him in no time at all. Heather does that to you! The ending was slightly gut wrenching, but I really should have seen it coming. I absolutely cannot wait for more and look forward to seeing who else Lainey draws into her orbit. Knowing Heather, it's going to be a wild ride!

This is book #2 in the Bay Ridge Royals series and it ends on a cliffhanger. WHAT!! I know get ready guys for book 3, because this one will blow your socks off. This is a enemies to lovers, dark why choose romance, secret society, brothers best friend, forced proximity, possessive male, found family. These characters first make an appearance in the Vandals series and book 1 in This series is a novella where Lainey and the guys begin their journey.

This is a fantastic read and is full of action and suspense, angst, twists and turns and real shockers that the reader will not see coming at all. Lainey and Milo have a really strong connection and I love how these two are together. I love love love how all these guys are mega protective and very loyal. Lainey's a force to be reckoned with and I love her strength.

This book will leave your emotions raw and will grip you until the very end. I love how This author writes and this plot flows perfectly. The character development in this book is brilliant and its amazing when an author can make you feel it all.
