"Witty dialogue and steamy sensuality.”

—Publisher’s Weekly

The USA Today bestselling author's storytelling career began when she picked up a historical romance on a college beach trip, and she fondly blames LaVyrle Spencer for her obsession with the genre. She’s a recipient of the National Reader’s Choice, HOLT Medallion, Golden Leaf and MAGGIE among others. She lived in New York, Paris and Taipei before returning to NYC.

When not writing sizzling love stories about feisty heroines and their temperamental-but-entirely-lovable heroes, Tracy enjoys reading, snowboarding, college football (Go Tigers!), yoga, and travel. She loves to hear from romance readers!

This book took me forever to read and I skimmed from 80% to the end.

It was pretty unoriginal and the prose was too overwritten, it distracted me. I had trouble following the dialogue because of the roundabout way the author chose to write it. It was like reading historical Yoda; give me one complete, straightforward sentence, please.

Other than that this book was ok, it was a very predictable marriage of convenience, friends to lovers between a rake and a bluestocking. There was nothing new or special here, and it was really unable to hold my interest. It took me forever to read because I could pretty much predict every moment. I think some of the relationship took place in previous book so this isn’t great as a stand alone. Perhaps if I’d followed the series this would have worked better for me but as it was it was mostly just sex and miscommunication with little actual relationship development or plot, but did manage to have two third act conflicts.

I’ve read so much better historical romance than this one. I’m giving it a generous three stars because it wasn’t terrible and some who’ve not read so many of this trope might enjoy it.

Thank you to BookSirens, I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Listen. One of my biggest pet peeves (and something I’m noticing more and more lately) is this habit that’s forming of writing a series of standalones that don’t actually stand-alone. And you may be thinking “well you should read a series in order”. Friends, a book should stand on it’s own merit without requiring you to retain the knowledge of previous books. And this is coming from someone that HAS read the previous books in this series. Big, overarching plot points? Sure, read the series in order a la ACOTAR. A romance series following a different couple in each book that doesn’t have a significant connection other than the characters making an appearance in previous books? The book should stand alone.

This book felt like it was either written by someone different (because I DO think Sumner is talented….normally) or wasn’t reviewed very well by an editor. It’s all tell, no show. I have no clue what either Theo or Dash’s backgrounds are because we’re given the bare minimum information. There’s so many plot points, like Dash’s entire family line getting wiped out??, that are just sprinkled in and dropped. It was so hard to follow along.

Do I think they’re in lust? Absolutely since they can’t have any kind of in depth conversation. It’s just them banging. Which would be fine if this was erotica, but it just ends up feeling poorly written. Are they in love? Friends, I don’t even think they like each other. Theo is doing the BIG INSECURE and is very upset that Dash slept with woman and had a reputation before her. Which…..okay? Y’all had a whole conversation about him honoring his wedding vows but he has to leave town (to, y’know, work??) and she’s about to have a coronary because she’s certain he’s banging the entire county.

It’s ridiculous, and honestly, it’s just a fairly unimaginative and overused plot point. Like beating a dead horse tired. Insecurity? Fine! But this was like…nonsensical and almost cartoon-ish. And there was no basis for it other than he’s hot and she just KNOWS he’s sleeping around. O…..Kay?

2 stars for the prose itself and the fact that the sex scenes were entertaining. But that’s all I got on this one.

Thanks to Netgalley for the e-arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own!

I’m still not giving up my dibs on Tobias Streeter (The Brazen Bluestocking) but Dash Campbell? Mmm mmm mmm is all I’m gonna say 🥵😮‍💨

Another solid story in The Duchess Society series!

I really liked Theo and thought she was the perfect woman for Dash, but Dash was the star of this story, at least for me. He was everything I look for in a book boyfriend… gorgeous, street smart, kind-hearted, and sexy af. I found him to be fabulously delicious.

A product of a very rough beginning, you sensed he could be a real scrapper yet had such an air of emotional vulnerability to him. Underneath everything, just a lost little boy wanting to be loved and needing family and a sense of belonging.

When all he had was a middle name he’d given himself on his tenth birthday because he believed it important to have one.

Strong and tender, which is always a winning combination for me. He pined and yearned for his leannan, which I loved, but what sealed the deal for me was that he was in awe of Theo’s intelligence. He loved her fascinating mind every bit as much as he loved her body. Maybe even little more than he loved her body?

Early in the story, during a scene where he was very frustrated by Theo’s headstrong ways but already catching feelings (they were friends of a sort a year before the story took place), he referred to her as leannan, which is a Gaelic term of endearment, like sweetheart or love. This made me smile big.

“Five minutes, leannan, then we’re circling around the way we came. Out with your story.”

Oot with yer story. You still sound like a heathen, she wanted to tell him. A gorgeous, hulking, arrogant heathen. Instead, she asked, “Leannan?”

He cut his eyes her way, then toward the ceiling. Shrugged a broad shoulder.

“Gaelic for troublemaker.” He kissed the dice and gave them a spin on his palm. “A pest. A nuisance in satin.”

Overall an entertaining story filled with character-driven goodness and lots of feels. I would have liked a touch more steam, but then I’m greedy that way 😉

“But I won’t agree to holding back when it’s the two of us. I mean to have you in each and every one of those twelve chambers. On the staircase of my Bruton terrace. In that bonnie carriage the Germans designed for just such an occurrence. Every way I can find and you beg for until you’re right and fully sick of me, and I can’t walk another step.” “Oh,” she whispered, images from that naughty French manuscript sneaking into her mind. He glanced at her from beneath lush, lowered lashes, his smile five shades of devious.

“That crafty brain of yours, I want that in my bed. In my life. I’ve dreamed of the things you’d ask me to do, curious, imaginative, bold Theo Astley. Study every filthy book you can get your hands on, lass, walk right into the shop as Mrs. Campbell and buy it, then come to me. I’ll answer your questions until you can’t remember what day it is. Scottish men take their time.”

I need Jasper Noble’s story soooon! I’m so very intrigued by his character…

It’s always the quiet ones!

The Duke of Leighton’s sister Theodosia Astley desperately wants to fit in but underneath she’s a true radical. What she really wants is to go to University, encourage women to vote, teach, you name it. What she prefers for a present is books, not tiaras. The girl from the rookeries is now part of the Leighton Clan. She decides to marry so that she can have her independence, only her fiancés very pregnant mistress turns up at the pre-wedding ball! Unleashing a scandal!
What Theo does next is run! Right into the carriage of Dashiell Campbell, rookery pickpocket and renowned card sharp, and takes off. Dash is pretty sure who’s stolen his carriage as soon as he sees its missing. He grabs a horse and follows Theo. (Mind you his driver thinks she’s one of the legions of women who throw themselves at the sinfully handsome Dash.)
Dash, determined to rescue Theo from the ensuing scandal, catches her at his gaming establishment, (thanks again to his driver!) Theo calls in the marker Dash owes her from years ago. Oops!
Unfortunately the Leighton Cluster (Yes! Dukes, Duchesses, kids etc.) catch up with them at an inn just as they’re in a very public clinch. (Kissing!) Another scandal! Before you know it Dash and Theo find themselves about to be married.
The story takes off from there amidst very funny moments, awkward moments, frustrating moments, and dangerous ones!
Dash’s married a radical not a mouse (which he already knew). The road to their happiness is strewn with rocks and moments of mirth, not to mention Theo’s book reading which extended to sexual tomes that need a lot of practice! Dash loves her command of words and is always after an explanation of their meaning. He adores the scholarly side of her.
A chuckling, enjoyable read!

This series is my happy place! Tracy has outdone herself once again with the mastery that is The Duchess Society, my absolute favourite series. Anyone who knows me, knows that Xander Macauley sets the bar for HR heroes in my mind, but even I can admit Dash Campbell may have scaled over that bar with the same ease that he uses to climb Theo’s window. The combination of Macauley’s influence, Dash’s dashing looks and that sinful Scottish brogue, is simply more than I can take. He and Theo are pure perfection, a relationship based in true friendship and backed by blinding passion. Their tumble into love as inevitable as the rising sun. This story delighted me in ways I cannot even express, giving me chills and delightful angsty tension combined. Sumner has a certain way with words creating a cinema like experience in the mind. I will never tire of this group of found-family perfection, indeed my heart may break when it comes to an end. She lays such detailed foundations for the next story as well, getting to know Jasper Noble a little more and dropping bread crumbs of curiosity to leave you anxious for the his book. Grab a cold drink and a fan, cuz this book is hot and thoroughly entertaining!

3.5 stars I was looking forward to reading Dash and Theo's story! They're both such interesting characters, and their love story has total friends-to-lovers vibes. Theo and Dash have great chemistry, and they connect on such a deep level. And their sexy times are pretty steamy! I think they really understand and deeply care for each other. Theirs is a lower-stakes romance with not many obstacles in their way except for their own misgivings and insecurities.

I also love the Leighton cluster and was happy that they had such prominent roles in this book. They're all such fantastic characters, and I adored their romances in the previous books, so it was wonderful to see how their relationships were going and what was happening in their lives. Macauley has a close relationship with Dash, and he gives some sage advice. I liked seeing him in this mentor/father figure role.

Overall, I liked the story and thought it was a good addition to the series. Thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

This delightful series continues with its fifth full length story. (There are also two novellas.) Theodosia Astley is at her own engagement party when a scandal unfolds regarding her fiancee. She flees into the first carriage she sees. She eventually recognizes it as belonging to Dashiell (Dash) Campbell. She helped him previously as he wrote a popular book about gambling. He runs a gaming hell and is friends with her brother in law who is a duke. Dash catches up with her and helps her to an inn. Unfortunately, just being together is compromising and a wedding is in the making.

Dash and Theo are friends and before the wedding they discuss friendship as the basis for their marriage which they want to be real including children. Dash and Theo also share very rough backgrounds. She grew up in the rookery until her half sister finds her and moves her to Mayfair. Because of her background she is on the edge on society. Dash grew up in a brothel but his probable half brother is an earl. His brother is his mentor and they have profitable whiskey ventures and other businesses in addition to his book and gaming rooms. He would be shunned by the ton except for the power of his friend group that includes two dukes and other titles. These friends are the romances from the previous books and it is fun to see most make appearances in this story. (I’ve read them all.)

I think this is one of my favorites in the series. Both Theo and Dash are smitten with each other long before they can see it themselves. And I love how important the word home is to both of them. Sumner usually is the medium heat range with scenes fading to black. But being newlyweds the heat level picks up a notch. Sumner’s writing is easy to read and enjoyable. There is at least one more story coming and I’ll be waiting for Jasper to get his romance.

Thank you to NetGalley, Tracy Sumner and Wolf Publishing for the ARC and I’m leaving a voluntary review.

Sumner delivers again, The Duchess Society is amazing, character driven, historic romance. I was so happy to read Dash’s story and I loved him and Theo. They’re romance is very cute and the right amount of far fetched plot for HR. The story needed more back story for both of them though, it felt incomplete to reference their past but then never give us the heart to heart conversation.
I’m already excited for Jasper’s story next! I love that the series builds on itself and the characters have the best found family.
Thank you Wolf Publishing for the ARC.

Ooooook so. Theo and Dash!! I have been waiting, and waiting. I love these two.

A small 'but'... I was kind of expecting something a little more here. In the last books there was some sort of fall out / conflict hinted at, but we don't get much on that in their book - other than Theo having been a bit irked by Dash being insufferable about his book.

Another small 'but' - I do not need all the members of The Leighton Cluster spelled out for me every time they are mentioned.

There is a total disregard for the cast iron hierarchy of the British class system. This is a very modern book, for it's 1830-ish sheen. I don't necessarily mind this, otherwise we'd be following around a bunch of rather emotionally repressed cadaverous looking poshos... for every Andrew Parker Bowles, there is a Duke of Kent...

So, I love Dash and Theo - they're both lovely characters. Sympathetic, sweet, passionate. The problem for me is the dialogue is slightly like wading through a very self aware, ever so slightly repetitive soup. Would benefit from a strong edit, and there are still a few typos in there which could be tidied up (though this might be my Kindle scrambling things? Not sure).

Dash's history is heartbreaking - but again, the signet ring, the family mystery, the last of the Campbells... all hinted at and then... nothing!

So all in all I'm very mixed. Lovely group of characters, lovely ideas, fun settings, super pairings, not too much in the way of utterly asinine 'misunderstandings' BUT ... could just be a bit tighter.

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Friends to lovers
Runaway bride
Marriage of Convenience

Theodosia FMC
Originally from the rooks, but now a polished lady of proper society due to having half siblings of some sort who are higher up in the hierarchy. Wallflower. Wannabe scholar. High intellect. Interested in studying, dreams of attending lesson at Cambridge and learning subjects like maths. Hopes to one day be allowed to teach. Insanely attracted to the MMC since page one, but plays it cool. Insecure because she's written to be a plain jane introvert while her love interest is written to be the most good looking, charming guy ever. Lack of trust in her husband due to his old ways.

Dash MMC
From the rooks as well. Belongs to the Leighton Cluster the same way Theodosia belongs there. Unpolished and tugged. Lean and talk frame. Unbelievably good looking. Him looking good is actually written about repeatedly to a point that it's become a part of his personality. He feels inferior to Theo and thinks she deserves better bcoz of the way they're opposites— what with her being beautiful, brilliant and proper and him just beginning to learn how to fit into polite society. Carries baggage from the past. Chip on the shoulder.

This is my first book by this author and I absolutely loved the glimpses of the men of the Leighton Cluster and as for the women— Pippa, Helena, and Necessity intrigue me the most. Despite my rating for this book I think I'll for sure try another by this author.

Now getting into this particular book— what went wrong was the lengthy monologues. I love historical romances that are happening. When it's just texts upon texts of how much one main character is attracted to/ feels for/ loves the other main character, I tend to get bored and lose interest. I felt like this book wasn't happening enough for me. I wanted more drama— now ik some books are just not about drama but I got some glimpses of the side characters and their stories and they all sound like a delightfully chaotic bunch. Which means that there was always room for drama.

Unfortunately the only drama that took place was Theodosia being a bit insecure and fearing Dash going back into his old ways and the like-wise. There was the misunderstanding segment followed by the grovelling segment. But again it's all just lengthy monologues of how the characters feel. I'd have loved to get more details of exactly how Dash grovelled but instead all I got was Dash's inner realization that he's fallen irrevocably in love with Theo and Theo's never ending thoughts of how much she loves Dash and how much she misses him.

Like don't keep telling me that a cat can meow— just show me a fun video of a cat meowing! Like do, don't tell.

Also the entire time, for some reason, the storyline made me think that Dash's got some deep dark secrets from the past. But those secrets are never explained in detail— and neither is his past for that matter. So that's another instance where lengthy monologues where all the rage instead of the story actually having a story.

Quotes

“What’s this about some hidden attraction after I let them spend a bloody year together in my study?” Leighton frowned, fingers clenching around his glass. “I thought Campbell considered her a sister!”
“Sister.” Macauley hooted, earning a scorching glare from the duke.

The scene I interrupted in the pub was hot enough to fry an egg, mate. I thought Leighton was going to detonate when he saw you.

Dash Campbell looking more the proud peacock than usual. My beloved Theo, whatever did you do to put such a shameless expression on his face? He’s practically strutting.

There isn’t a duke alive who likes children more than Leighton. Make sure Helena is close by, just in case. She holds the power to tame the beast.

When Theodosia Astley’s engagement ball winds up in tatters, she finds herself unwittingly in need of rescue, and that happens to come from Dash Campbell, a gambler with a good heart beneath his scoundrel’s façade. She only meant to use the closest carriage to run away, it just so happened that the closest carriage was Dash’s very distinctive new model. Dash has always liked Theo ever since she taught him to read and write, so he’s happy enough to propose marriage to salvage her tattered reputation. Theo agrees but stipulates that they remain friends but not fall in love. Of course, that’s very much easier said than done.

I think maybe I had some unrealistically high expectations for this book and this couple especially. Beware of spoilers. I was very much looking forward to seeing Theo and Dash bond over their shared history of coming from the lower classes, and especially to Dash finally revealing his past. Instead, much of this bonding occurred off page or was left to be assumed, or otherwise quickly and vaguely glossed over. I wanted gritty, emotional scenes of these two ripping open their hearts for one another and instead, it was mostly filled with insecurities and assumptions from Theo and cluelessness from Dash as he tried to interpret her mixed signals. I hate the misunderstanding trope anyway and its deployment here was flimsy at best. Dash was almost never out of company with Ollie and Xander, both of whom were witnesses to the scene that caused Theo’s incongruous temper explosion, and yet this was still allowed to lead to a nonsensical separation between Theo and Dash. I wanted to see a mature hashing out of feelings and that wasn’t what we got.

I wanted to see more of these two falling in love despite their best efforts to remain friends, yet much of that occurred off page as well. I was not happy that Theo continued to think the worst of Dash and react with a volatile, rapid anger that didn’t abate with the application of reason and logic. Insecurity is highly relatable, but not in the nonsensical, airheaded way it was presented here. So much of the relationship development occurred off the page that I was left feeling like I really didn’t know Dash and Theo as a couple and wasn’t sure if they had a deep bond beyond their physical connection. There were just tons of missed opportunities here and I began to care less and less about Theo and her excessive pride and the ridiculous, plot stalling test she was putting Dash through and become more interested in the bits of intrigue thrown to us about Jasper Noble’s story. That said, though this book wasn’t everything I’d hoped, that could also be my current book slump doing some of the talking, and I’m very much looking forward to Jasper’s story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

There is so much that I love about Tracy Sumner’s new book, Two Scandals and a Scot. This book has the beautiful Dashiell Campbell and the darling Theodosia Astley. When Theo left a Ball in a hurry due to an embarrassment that happened with her fiancé, she took off in a carriage that was just sitting in line, she didn’t care whose carriage she was getting into as she just needed to get away. As soon as she got into the carriage the driver took off as he must have thought she was one of Dash’s light skirts and he was heading to Dash’s gaming hell. As Theo was looking around the carriage she found Dash’s book “Proper Etiquette for Deception” Theo had a memory of Dash talking to her soon after they were done collaborating on his book. After they finished the book, Dash touched her lips with his and then he said “I thank you for the lessons. Then I’ll owe you. And someday, lass, that owing will be worth something”
While Dash was catching up with his carriage he had a damned good idea who’d stolen his carriage. He also knew what he had to do and that was to protect Theo from the Ton.
Dash takes Theo to an Inn and soon the Leighton Cluster shows up to see what’s happening with Theo and Dash. The story turns really fun with the characters from the previous books and they all end up at Dash’s country home.
Never fear as there are many sexy, steamy scenes and Dash and Theo take advantage of the many different places inside and outside their home.
You will need to read the book to find out what the second scandal is but I will say that Jasper Noble (from previous books) has information about the scandal and sticks by Dash when he needed a friend.
Dash is so swoon worthy in this book and I was thrilled that Tracy S. kept Dash as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside.
I loved this book and I hope you will too.
Thank you Tracy for another awesome book.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to read and review the book Two Scandals and a Scot by Tracy Sumner!

Two Scandals and a Scot is the 5th book in The Duchess Society series by Tracy Sumner, but it can be read as a standalone. It's also the fourth book of hers that I've read. It came out on the 20th of April and is available on Kindle Unlimited. WOLF Publishing published it.

When Theo's fiance's pregnant mistress shows up on the eve of their wedding, she does the only logical thing; run away in her friend's carriage. It's just the friend is the notorious Dash Campbell, who wrote the book on gambling -quite literally. When Dash decides to join her and aid this expedition, they cause quite a scandal and wind up married to save her honor.

Tracy Sumner does not disappoint with one thing. The book is steamy AF, and I loved it that aspect of it. The characters also have a lot of potential

However, while I liked how Tracy Sumner did the friends-to-lovers, arranged marriage, and reformed rakes tropes in this book, someone should have given this a more critical read, especially towards the end with Jasper. We have a lot of him in the book, but it's so weird. Like so incredibly weird that I just wanted to run away. The conflict didn't work; Dash and Theo seem happy, but she's extremely insecure, and I genuinely dislike characters who play stupid games (when Dash was in the doghouse).

While I know I'll read more by Tracy Sumner, I am slightly disappointed with this book. The end with Jasper and the knife just left me meh-ed out by what could have been a much better book.

In Two Scandals and a Scot, the fifth book in the Duchess Society series, we have Theodosia and Dashiells story. Theo a child brought up in poverty in the Rookeries and Dash having had a cruel childhood in Glasgow. They are both now part of high society but on the edge due to their pasts. Theo is well read and intelligent and angry that woman are unable to go to university or sit in the House of Commons, Dash made his fortune gambling and now has a whiskey business making good money. Theo has help Dash write a book about gambling to help others which is a best seller.
During her engagement party for an arranged marriage the mistress of her intended turns up pregnant so Theo flees the scene stealing Dash’s carriage, he chases after her and they end up in an inn for the night, but their friends follow them, they are told the only way to avoid a scandal is to marry, and so they do.
They are both highly attracted to each other but decide being just friends and not falling in love is best, but the sexual chemistry is strong and the subsequent scenes are scorching as they become extremely intimate. We take their journey of discovery with its ups and downs and drama.
This is a great story, well told, with a cast of previous characters that add much humour and support. I think this is my favourite so far even though the previous books were wonderful.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.

I'm so mad because of this book. It had EVERYTHING that makes a good historical romance, or even romance in general. We got a morally gray, bad boy with a heart of gold, an independent, strong, educated heroine, perfect setting, lovely side characters and a decent plotline.
So, what is the problem? The problem is that the author left all these interesting details and just wrote a whole book of erotica. That's it.
Whenever the story got personal and deep about each character's struggles, the author would suddenly stop and write about them having sex. It felt so irritating and predictable. It also turned repetitive quickly, the whole thing consisted of steamy scenes and both characters' inner dialogues about how breathtaking the other is. The amount of spotlight the MMC's looks got was borderline shallow and condescending. The heroine kept saying how she hates that everyone is summing the hero's existence in his looks while she is the first person who does that!!
She literally admitted she can't trust him because of how handsome it is. Talk about insecurity!!
I'm really disappointed by the whole thing because Tracy is one of my favorite authors in the genre, so my expectations were high for her newest work...

The 5th book in the Duchess Society series, I have been wanting to read about Dash and Theo since we meet them in The Wicked Wallflower.

Dash and Theo were both born on the wrong side of the tracks and rescued. Theo is the newfound sister to Helena Astley who married Roan Darlington, Duke of Leighton. And Dash, a Scottish kid, was saved by Pippa and Macauley from puberty. Dash and Theo sort of grow up together and also study together, Theo was Dash's teacher for a long time until they grew apart due to life circumstances.

Some years pass, the tension grows (you can feel the tension between books 3 and 4) and finally, we get to see them together. Theo was jilted during her engagement party when a surprise showed up and saved the day. She makes a run for it and Dash follows. The scandal that follows makes the Leighton Cluster get involved and well, that's the fun and funny scenes.

I have to say that this book did not disappoint. The original theme is there, the tension is there, it's funny and sensual and I have to say, Dash will forever be grateful for graphic French texts!

I really do love Sumner’s books. She has a perfect blend of plot, interesting characters, steamy scenes ending in an HEA. Truly, I couldn’t ask for more! Her books are always wonderful to read.
I read this one in one sitting. Frankly I’m not a big fan of books about Scots (having gone through my Outlander phase a few years ago) but decided to give it a try. And it was terrific! Dash and Theo did not have an easy road to love. I thoroughly enjoyed their journey and how they overcame the obstacles. Dash really had to change his way of wooing and he’s the better for it. And Theo discovered a new subject to research after spending time in the bedroom.
One thing I really, really loved about the book was how Theo would teach Dash a new word. That was so sweet. I loved Dash’s thirst for knowledge and how he respected Theo’s intellect. And I loved how Theo always wanted to help others learn.
I really love how the Leighton Cluster always shows up in her books. I enjoy how they intertwine with each other and how the whole clan always helps out in their own special ways.
Another terrific book by Sumner. I highly recommend the whole series.

4 1/2*STARS*
Theodosia Astley now has the title of RUNAWAY BRIDE. Fleeing her wedding, she escapes in the first coach she sees. It belongs to Dashiell M. Campbell. As he chases down his coach, he finds Theo without a chaperon. It means more scandal if they don't marry. Dash isn't too happy about the marriage. They make a pack to remind friends, but the passion between them is very real and their relationship takes an unexpected turn to love.
Can they trust each other to build a solid marriage? Unexpected events will put them to a test. It's nice to visit again with The Duchess Society and the Leighton Cluster. A bond that is unbreakable. Some humor and descriptive sex.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

*Swoon*

Oh, how I've missed the Leighton Cluster. Two Scandals and a Scot is the fifth book in the Duchess Society series by Tracy Sumner. I waxed poetic previously about how Xander McCauley is my ultimate book boyfriend but Dash might just be giving him a run for his money with his smooth Scottish brogue. I think this book reads best having read the prior books in the series since Theo and Dash's story begins in previous novels.

Theo discovers a scandal concerning her fiancé right before the event is to take place. She escapes into a waiting carriage only to realize it's her longtime crush Dash's. They head to a nearby Inn to wait out the night before Dash will send her on her way back to her brother in law, Leighton. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately,) Dash and Theo find themselves caught in a compromised position and are told they must marry. It's fine to be best friends with your spouse, but Theo doesn't want to lose her newfound independence to love. They make a promise to each other to keep the bedroom passionate but keep love out of their everyday life.

I cannot speak highly enough of the Duchess Society series. Sumner has a real gift creating her heroes. Dash is a complex character with a rakish exterior but is gone for Theo from that first pact. You can't help but love him. Theo is smart, independent and stubborn. I love their verbal sparring. We get plenty of cameos from all our Leighton Cluster favorites. Xander and Roan both give Dash plenty marriage advice and one liners. I'm excited to see where Jasper's story is going to go. He was a breakout character in the last book.

This book is for you if you love: friends to lovers, runaway brides, marriage of convenience, don't fall in love with your spouse, wooing your wife, vocabulary lessons, bluestocking heroine, reformed rake, Leighton Lovesicks, sneaking in windows, found family, literary pet names

Thank you to Tracy Sumner, NetGalley, and Wolf Publishing for this eARC. All opinions expressed are my own. #netgalley #tracysumner #TwoScandalsAndAScott #DuchessSociety #WolfPublishing

Two Scandals and a Scot is the fifth book in The Duchess Society series by Tracy Sumner. I was intrigued by Dashiell Campbell in previous books and was anxiously awaiting his and Theo’s story since their first kiss in The Wicked Wallflower.

Theodora Astley was such a great character she is adventurous, strong willed, and has a temper. When Dashiell Campbell (Dash) wanted to publish a book he asks for her help because she is smart and the perfect person to help him. During the time they send together writing the book there was definitely something brewing but once the book was completed they stepped away from each other.

However, fate had other ideas for them. When Theo runs away from her engagement party and into Dash’s carriage their fate is sealed. Dash catches up to her carriage and when the Duke of Leighton walks in on their kiss there is no going back and the wedding is planned.

Since they already know each other they decide to approach their marriage logically and agree to friendship instead of the all consuming love of the Leighton Cluster. Since when did logic work when the heart is involved!

Tracy wrote Dash and Theo brilliantly, in some things they were so sure of things, and yet vulnerable and insecure at the same time. I love a good Scottish brogue and could hear him in my head add in his good looks and how can Theo resist?
Theo and Dash are perfect together in the bedroom, but have some ups and downs along the way to overcome before they accept they love each other just as much as the other members of the Leighton Cluster.

It is obvious there is much more to Jasper Noble than the little glimpses Tracy has left us and I am anxiously awaiting his story. He has intrigued me since his relationship with Necessity Byrne in One wedding and an Earl.

I voluntarily received an advanced copy of this book and am providing my honest review.

This was my introduction to Leighton Cluster and I’ve definitely been missing out, though I can’t imagine liking any of the other couples more than Dash and Theo.

This book is #5 in a series but was easy to follow as a stand alone, although I did sort of wish there was a list of couples as the group gatherings could be a bit confusing. There were a lot of references to the other characters from earlier books and there’s obviously tons of history but I didn’t find that it made it difficult to understand what was happening with Dash and Theo’s story.

This book was quick and the main characters are sweet but I would have loved more details about Dash’s history or family. His past was alluded to frequently (he even authors a book about it), but I would have liked to see more about his Grandfather/the ring or his Mother.

Theo reminds me a bit of the FMCs from Lisa Kleypas’ Ravenels series in that she’s sassy and knows what she wants, and is not preoccupied with the social norms and customs of the times.

Spice rating: 3/5

This was a quick read and I will likely go back and read the rest of the series based on how much I enjoyed this book.

My thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this e-book for review.

Another winner from my favorite series 🤩

My love for the cluster, as they call themselves, is infinite and this book was no less lovelier than the first ones. This is the story of Dash and Theo, as they quickly jump into a marriage to save her reputation, while both of them had a crush on each other. Now they have to get past their self imposed friendship and deal with their new life.

Both characters are charming, they are so likeable. They both have special traits that make them so particular and build the story, Dash with his good looks and luck and Theo with her mousy yet strong temper.

The book was fast paced, filled with heat and action, and not a great level of drama. Even mad at each other they were greatly in love.

I loved how old characters made new appearances and I cannot wait to read more about Jasper Noble, such an intriguing character!

I received a copy of this in order to offer my personal view on it.

I adored Dash & Theo’s story! It was fiery and tender and the mutual pining and delayed gratification had me swooning. My absolute favorite of the series - which I did not expect!

What happens when a bookish, erudite heroine tutors a Scottish gambler whose looks and street smarts have paved the way to both notoriety and wealth?

Fireworks. Sheer fireworks.

This story of banked, simmering passion that flares at the most inopportune moment, was impossible to put down.

There are moments between them where the ache of longing is visible, and it is obvious from the very first that far more than lessons in composition and seduction lies between them.

Another fun read from the Duchess Society. I love this series, they're fantastic, fun weekend books.

I did feel like there was a fair amount of downtime in the book, felt a bit thin for me, but overall still a good read, guv.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Dashiell Campbell, latest Pet project of Xander Macauley, born in a brothal, raised in the stews of Glasgow. He has helped where he can for Xander and Streeter to prove himself worthy. As we know from prior stories, Theo was teacher to Dash and assisted in the writing of his book. Now with more money than he has ever thought he would have, he bought a place for himself.

Theodosia Astley, (Theo), half-sister Helena married to the Duke of Leighton, is a bluestocking, would rather be reading than at a ball or other event, also wants to attend Cambridge or Oxford, become a teacher. Theo on the other hand, has not been able to do anything about her dreams. The Duchess Society has helped her not be a wallflower, she has a fiancee, and will be wife to a Cambridge teacher. The closest she will get to her dream.

Scandal one, the engagement ball surprise that caused Theo to bolt! She just has to leave seeing now as her chance to rusticate at one of Leighton us lesser estates. Little does she know who's carriage she jumped into! It was in the drive not on the street, it was empty, and had the driver in the box, so she told him to drive and he did!

Scandal two, THE KISS, oh what a kiss!

After the book is published Theo gets mad at Dash, he does not understand why. Since no one will let her just teach, she finds being married to a Cambridge professor her best option. That is until the incident at the engagement ball. So she runs!

Dash ever the helper, a little in lust with Theo, goes after her to bring her back. Until she throws his promise back at him. For teaching him he would owe her a favor, now she wants to collect. Help her get away, so he does.

Come join the merry fun with these two on the run! Can they get to where they intend before the Leighton Cluster find them? What was the scandal at the ball? Who was the kiss between? Where was the kiss?

Sassy characters, witty banter, great drama, steamy scenes, what's not to love! Add in a rescued dog that constantly needs a bath, a finicky cat and two people that really need each other and you have a fun, thrilling, can't put down story that will have you riveted to the end. I loved, loved this story!

You all know me, I love Tracy Sumner books. She’s my new go to gal for steamy historical romances. If I want to read a novel where theres a high probability that someone is gonna get horizontal in a carriage - I know my girl, Tracy will not let me down.

I have been jonesing for Dash and Theo’s story for some time now. So to say I was pretty excited about Two Scandals and a Scot, is underplaying it. I know Veronica would love it because it’s got the reformed rake, I love it because it features a Scottish hero and a bluestocking heroine plus a marriage of convenience. This hits all the notes, my friends! Buckle up, join hands…join the love train..love train…

A Little Bit of Plot

Ive loved 3 Theos in my life: 1. Huxtable, 2. Dear Theodosia from Hamilton, and 3. Theo(dosia) Astely, the bluestocking sister of the heroine from the Scandalous Vixen (see what Tracy did there with “scandals”…).

Theo is in a pickle, she’s not in love with her intended and becomes even more so when his very pregnant mistress makes an appearance at their engagement ball. She moves from one scandal by starting another; fleeing in a stolen carriage, owned by former student and object of her (secret) affection, Dashiell Campbell. When the two are discovered, it’s wedding bells at dawn and a plan to not fall in love but definitely never leave their marriage bed. As lust becomes much more, who will be the first to admit what they first thought was just heat burns brighter and much longer?
Also, the fucking name Dash, amirite? Also, Dashiell? Both are panty burning, bruv.

The Compliment Sandwich
The Top Bun (The Pro)
The Leads

I could talk all day about how much I love both Dash and Theo. Sumner has two beautiful characters with tons of depth and an innate relatability. I’m not sure if this stems from both coming from the streets before finding wealth, but it works so well in allowing the reader to connect to both.
I find sometimes it’s tough to relate to historical main characters because we are appending modern day sensibilities to them. I find it hard to find empathy with a 21 year old woman whose never dressed herself sometimes and I’m supposed to believe that she has the wherewithal to make life altering decisions? Um, when I was 21, I remember the night I was at a bar, fell down some stairs and got angry because I tore the knee out of my Gap jeans. I, of course, sidled up to the bar, ripped the hold a bit wider, and continued partying. I was a bit more of a broad thinking woman. All I’m saying is that it’s a different world.

So much of this book Dash tries to almost one up Theo on who had the more meager upbringing. You both win, Dash..they both sucked. Theo tries to impress upon him that he doesn’t need to flagellate himself, they can agree that both are in much better circumstances than ever before.
“You’re a soft touch,” Theo whispered, laughter threading her voice. “Although you scared the wits from the boy. Threatening him with a duke. When I was born not five streets from the workhouse myself and don't deserve such special treatment.

And what can I say about Dash, in general, and his secret endearments to Theo? He’s been in love with her for years, but not willing to admit it. While she taught him to read and edited his first book, he pined for her. Yes, he couches it in lust, but there was much more there.
We meet the two properly in The Wicked Wallflower, and I knew immediately that Dash would be my next book boyfriend. Here is “The Moment in the Book the Hero Ruined Me for All Men IRL” @chicklitbookclubpodcast:
“I ken it’s your bloody birthday.” Taking her arm none too gently, he hauled her down the passageway to a little-used parlor. It was filled, floor to ceiling, with books. Stacks and stacks of them. The room smelled of leather spines and moldy pages, her favorite scents in the world. “Today was the day I set to take my courting to another level, after giving your stormy temper time to calm. No more mooning from afar like a tormented hero in a shilling novel.”

Also, he’s Scottish so he automatically wins ALL the points. Hello!

The Meat (The Con)
I knew that we were too happy at 50% through. That’s all I’m gonna say.

The Bottom Bun (The Pro)
Good God Damn, this book is HOT.

One thing Tracy Sumner is excellent at and that’s writing her books as hot as a forest fire on the sun. I read some idiot person complaining about the sex scenes - fine, not for you, but more for me, man. This couple takes their time..sexy by sexy bit... eventually breaching the castle (so to speak). Leading up to the pièce de résistance however, we are treated to a lot of loin scorching goodness.

What’s most amazing about these scenes is that Theo takes charge a majority of the time. She’s not afraid to voice her likes and dislikes. She’s inquisitive and brilliant, therefore, this wouldn’t change once clothes were removed. Plus, if you have a sexy Scot in your bed... Can me Bill Nye, cuz we're experimenting, baby...

As they are waiting to be married, Dash has an impromptu meeting with Theo to assure her that what's between is more than convenience, that he’s lusted after for many years.
“I want you, lass. I couldn’t allow you to walk down that aisle thinking I dinnae. That I’m forced into this, when no one’s forcing…This gamble comes down to you and me. Right here, right now.”
Theo drew a breath, meaning to tell him she wanted him, too.
But his hand was trailing along her spine, leaving a path of sensation behind it. His fingertips burning through layers of satin, silk, and cotton. His lips gliding along her jaw and settling a sensitive spot beneath her ear. His whisper swirled inside as he bit her earlobe, turning her leg to butter. “The wicked things I’ve dreamed of doing to you, leannan. Going back to our time battling my book across that desk. I’m starting to think, from the way we spark off each other, starting wee fires, you’ve thought them too”

Yes she has, Dash. Just look at you, man!

And she’s just as enthusiastic as he is when it comes to reciprocation:
When she tunneled past his drawers and her breath hit his shaft, he wrapped his fingers around the chair’s spindles until his knuckles popped. His hips lifted, a deadly sign, as her tongue met his swollen crown. Tentative, she was not. The metal of his ring was cool where it grazed him. Thank the gods, her touch was gentle. He could handle himself for a time if she kept to this pace.
Aye, but then she didn’t keep the pace.

Readers, what I’m saying is that if you want a steamy, sexy read with absolutely realistic and relatable characters falling in love, look no further! I think this is a stand alone, although it would be helpful to understand the side characters better.

One character that I’m so enthralled to learn more about is Jasper Noble. I cannot wait until his book. Until then, I say check out Tracy’s entire catalog, there will be something for everyone!

Two Scandals and a Scot by Tracy Sumner kept me up late reading! I adore the camaraderie between the Leighton Cluster. Dash and Xander Macaulay’s brotherly-style relationship always captured my imagination, and I’ve been patiently waiting for Dash’s story. I was not disappointed.

The beginning of the book finds Theo rudely awakened to the foibles of her non-Dash fiancé, so she made her escape from their pre-wedding celebration. Who stepped in to rescue her? The rakish Dashiell M. Campbell, that’s who! He who has taken London by storm after the success of Proper Etiquette for Deception, and he’s been enjoying himself as has been documented in the newspapers. He treated himself to a very recognizable carriage which Theo just happened to commandeer to make her escape. Thus begins the friends to lovers, forced proximity story that is Dash and Theo’s romance.

Tracy Sumner’s imagery in this book is some of her best. If I closed my eyes after reading a scene I could very easily hear the rain lashing the windowpane or imagine myself in a carriage careening through the streets of Mayfair. I feel like I could easily navigate their Southgate estate, thanks to her vivid descriptions.

She doesn’t often use the friends to lovers trope, but it fits Dash and Theo to perfection. Tracy’s exploration of the insecurities of both Dash and Theo in their relationship was realistic and gave their story a wonderful depth. Dash’s usage of Gaelic when he feels emotional just melts my heart. Oh, and let’s not forget that one area they definitely do not struggle in is chemistry!

Two Scandals and a Scot also gave us a little more insight into Jasper Noble and how he fits into the Leighton Cluster. My interest is piqued. There’s always more than meets the eye to Tracy’s Rookery boys, but is Jasper truly from the Rookery? Only time will tell.

I received an ARC from the author. The opinions expressed above are my own.

(Amy) I have been waiting (im)patiently for Dash’s story, and I was not disappointed.

Two scandals and a Scot is the fifth book in the Duchess Society series, and I swear I swoon a little heard with each book. With this series, each book focuses on a different member of the Duchess Society, and their friends, while still giving you glimpses into the lives of all your favourite characters from the previous books.

In this book we finally get more insight into Dashiell Campbell, and the bookish Theodosia Astley, and boy was I here for it. Thus far, Dash has had such a mysterious quality to his character, drifting in and out when needed, but always in a fascinating and alluring way. There was such potential to ruin the mystique of him by giving him his own book, but Tracy Sumner did an amazing job managing his allure while sharing his history. Theo, has also been rather peripheral thus far, lending knowledge and advice where needed. In this story we get to see more of her spirit and a little more of her rookery beginnings shine through.

I love how this story unfolds through scandal, delight, toe-curling spice, and humour. There is a captivating pace to the story that will keep you turning the pages. There is a staccato rhythm to the writing that took me a bit to get used to - lots of short and indirect phrases - but as I read on, it becomes a part of the characters: for Dash, it’s the way his mind works quickly to take everything in, as is the way of the cardsharp, con and Gambling God. For Theo, it’s the way her academic brain processes everything around her, moving quickly from subject to subject to gather all pertinent information.

If you love a spicy historical romance, this is such a good series. Thank you to NetGalley and Tracy Sumner for this ARC. My review and opinions are my own.

This is the reason my house did not get cleaned yesterday!!!

This is the latest installment of the Duchess Society series, and it did not disappoint! I LOVED Dash and Theo’s story! As is always the case for me with one of Tracy Sumner’s books, I couldn’t put it down. She weaves such beautiful love stories! Both characters have roles in previous books, and I was really looking forward to their story. Dash(iell) and Theo(dosia) both come from poor backgrounds and find themselves thrust into society--she as the sister-in-law to a Duke and he as the author of a bestselling book on gambling. We start with Theo’s escape from her engagement ball and a fiancé who was all wrong for her. Dash comes to her rescue and helps her run away. They, of course, ultimately get caught together at an inn by the entire Leighton Cluster and decide to marry. They have been friends with an attraction to each other (that they both pretended wasn’t there), then not friends, and now husband and wife who vow to ONLY be friends-no falling in love! You will be rooting for this couple and their unorthodox personalities from page 1. They’ll make you laugh, they will sometimes frustrate you, and sometimes make you want to cry. I loved that both characters stayed true to themselves, championed each other’s individuality, and, even while tripping over their own insecurities, managed to grow into a steadfast and unconventional couple. Oh, and Dash is Scottish, too (swoon)! This could be read as a standalone, but if you have not read the series and get a chance to, do so! It’s such a great collection of stories and, of course, will give you more background on Dash & Theo. Either way, I highly recommend you read this book!

Trope(s): Opposites attract, runaway bride, friends (who had a prior falling out) to lovers, long time crush, class difference (sort of), bluestocking/rake, marriage of convenience
