Steve and Sarah to the rescue! After Mikal's mother - the Lentarian queen - is abducted, husband and wife return to Lentari to mount a rescue. Learning that a nefarious wizard has discovered how to steal a person's jhorun, Steve, Sarah, and Rhenyon infiltrate the wizard's lair in an attempt to learn more about the process.

Add one magic-stealing goblet, half a dozen dimwitted trolls, and one conceited wizard. Next, add one kidnapped member of the royal family, one concerned son, two bodyguards, a soldier, and an adolescent griffin. Throw in a pinch of green dragon. Mix well and you will have yourself one fantastic action-packed fantasy adventure set in the magical kingdom of Lentari!

Nearly a year has passed since the events of their first visit. Mikal, the young crown prince, is happy, healthy, and adapting well to living on a strange new world with his bodyguards. However, a devious plot has been hatched, one that will force the young prince to return to his homeland. When Steve gets a mysterious message that says a member of the royal family has been abducted, he makes the decision to return to Lentari so they could aid the rescue party. Mikal is left safe and secure back in Coeur d’Alene with Annie, Sarah’s sister, and Tristan, his tutor. When Mikal sneaks through the portal to try to help, his presence in Lentari becomes known, and draws the attention of the Ylanian wizard who desperately wants to get his hands on him.

Battling thieving invaders, outsmarting repulsive trolls, and trying to stay one step ahead of a wizard bent on acquiring Mikal at all costs, Steve and Sarah must use all the powers at their disposal to keep their young charge safe.

Seek ye not the protector’s wrath...

Outstanding! Continuing on from Book 1, the plot thickens and the characters are fleshed out, along with a few more new ones. Mr Poole's writing style is simplistic and engaging, adding realism and empathy to the story. A few minor errors but nothing glaring, I highly recommend adding this to your "to read" list, along with the first.

Yes, I finished it in one sitting. Can't wait until the third book is out. Characters are well developed and interesting - the type of people I wouldn't mind having a beer with in real life. Jeffrey Poole has done an amazing job with this story and I can't believe it's his first.

As I said, can't wait for the third book.

See, this time I was smart. I went into it knowing what sort of book I was going to get, after that little expectation mishap in my review of the first book.

Although the book still straddles an odd line for me between being Young Adult or Breezy Grown-up, it's still a lot of fun. Reading too much dark fantasy makes me expect every "good guy" of being a turncoat, and it's a happy relief at the end of the book when they're actually genuinely good guys. Don't get me wrong, I love a twisty-turning book, but I also like reading stories where I know what I'm getting.

Admittedly, I apologize to Mr. Poole. I'm sure my review would be more enthusiastic if I wasn't in a bit of a reading slump. I was just determined to finish this once I'd started it, so I dragged a little but I know it wasn't the book. The book kicks off the action very fast, which draws you right in, and doesn't require any "info dumps" to tell us what happened in the last book. (A tribute to the author's skill.)

Rhenyon still rocks. Steve, Sarah and Annie all reading more like teenagers than adults is still a bit strange, but far from intolerable. I'll admit I'm a little uncertain about the necessity of the Ylani (that didn't involve Main Characters) scenes, but they weren't so bad either. Otherwise, I got no complaints. I liked the sorceress sister concept, dwarf versus wizard was fun, and I like the set-up for the next book.

So, a solid 4 for this fun, exciting romp through Lentari!

Though, reading about Steve makes me really want to up my Crit on my WoW fire mage. That's a dangerous thing! ;-)

Once again I was ushered into Lentari through the Portal of Jeffrey Poole's exceptional talent. I genuinely enjoyed this read equally as much as "The Prophecy" (Book I) Once again my only discontent was being sad that my adventure came to an end in just under 2 days of reading. Alas it could not be helped, as it was a real page turner and there was temptation to resist sleep to read into the wee morning hours. I was simply unwilling to put it down and simply using normal wake hours riding through America did not suffice, so I chose to sleep less and read more. NO Regrets, I shall catch up on rest later. I have already done a search for Book III on my Kindle store, and thus far it is not listed. I look forward to it being made available on Kindle, and sincerely hope it will be very soon.

I have enjoyed the talent, creativity and adventure filled writing of Jeffrey Poole in the first two books I have finished reading. I consider myself a new fan of this author and hope for many more years to come of talented adventures published by this author. I have been a long time fan of Anne McCaffrey's Chronicles of Pern as an author I feel is talented enough to encourage reading the books over and over again. Jeffrey Poole has shown himself to be a budding new author that embodies the same quality of talent. I will look forward to reading the Bakkian Chronicles over and again as well.
Sincere thanks: Eliyahna

I really love these books. not sure what it is but they are fun in ways a lot of other fantasy books don't dare to try. l love the fact that other people ie Sarah's sister and Stevens parents are allowed to know about and even enter lentari. sounds silly but most books ive read don't let that happen. anyway.. great read and cant wait for the next one.. jack up the price Jeffrey... im buying

Adventure continues

I choose 5 stars because like the first book this book keep me involved and interested in continuing on through the book. The characters are all very interesting, each in their own way. It's fun to find out each persons abilities. So, I am glad the 3 book is out. Heading to kindle to get it! I would recommend these books to anyone who likes a good fantasy with magic, dragons, adventure and more.
Thanks for a great read!

Love the partners

I have read probably a hundred fantasy books. This is the first where spouses are equally valuable and the relationship between them is realistic and even wholesome. A really fun book and I am glad there is another one. Oh, and as a corgi-mom, that was a joy!

I really like this one too. The characters are realistic, the action is paced fairly well. The story is intriguing, and it ended with just a hint of what the third book will be about. I liked how everything tied together, but it seemed a little too easy. The only thing which had me wanting more was the danger. There was danger, but never to the point where a character you cared about was not going to make it. There was the potential for danger, but nothing that was edge of your seat, you didn't know what would happen type.

The main characters, Steve and Sarah, are almost too powerful. I understand why they are, and it fits the story, but there's no suspense with them. You know they can handle anything that is thrown at them, and then some. I really liked Annie and Tristan together. They are not all powerful, but still have some spunk to them. I liked how everything wove together, and the way they found out about the different puzzle pieces of what was going on.

To me, something in the next book needs to go really bad. One of these four characters has to get seriously hurt, to the point where you think they might be lost. Steve would go nuclear if it was Sarah. Sarah likewise would throw a fit if either Annie or Steve were taken out. I think the most advantageous would for either Annie or Tristan to be taken down, not dead, but injured enough that the people who care for them thought death was a real possibility. And having this thought, they become desperate, and do something they wouldn't ordinarily do. And this thing would be the crux of whatever they were trying to achieve. I think that Annie would have the most powerful impact, since Tristan, Steve and Sarah would all be heavily affected by it.

They can still have a happily ever after, but it's that fear for the life of a character that you love which makes a story feel real and exciting.

Bakkian Chronicles, Book II - Insurrection by Jeffrey Poole is the second book taking place in the world of Lentari. When Steve gets a message from the world of Lentari he and Sarah know something is drastically wrong. The Queen has been kidnapped! They decide to head back to lend their powerful jhorun's to the chase. Leaving Mikal with Sarah's sister Annie and Trisan, his bodyguard from Lentari they hop through the portal and return to the magical land.

The action in this book picks up much faster than it did in the first of the series. Since almost of the characters have been introduced you are dumped straight into an exciting chase as Steve and Sarah try to stop the kidnappers before they reach the border. The second in the series keeps all the strengths of the first and Jeffrey has grown a bit as a writer leading to a more polished book.

This book appeals to the same audience as book I although I believe there was a little bit more profanity this time. No f-bombs or anything just a few more swear words used. I am going to be looking forward to the third book in the series with a great deal of interest. Jeffrey has created a truly wonderful world populated with interesting and believable characters. If you have even the smallest interest in fantasy pick up the first book in the series and you will get sucked in.

Another good read although shorter than I'd hoped and weaker than the first book (The Prophecy).
The plot was predictable and too obvious at times. There were occasions where I found myself asking 'Why didn't he just...?' or 'Why did he just...?'. There were one or two supposedly intuitive conclusions made by the characters that were anything but likely and obvious and were clearly there to move the plot along without any real effort.
The over-use of clichés was once again evident (everyones jaws closing with an audible snap) and there were some terrible editorial mistakes. These sort of mistakes could be overlooked in Book #1 but for this installament Mr. Poole states he used a professional Editor. I'd ask for your money back!!

Still, it is a stange fact with this series of books that even the poor editing and (at times) weak storytelling do not detract from the readability to any great extent. A good read overall and definitely recommended.

Read as part of the Bakkian Chronicles Omnibus edition.

I am truly enjoying the story and the writer's style. The characters are engaging and it is well written.

However, please get a good editor! There are simply too many grammar and typo errors in this (and the author's other books that I have read) for me to give the books 5 stars. As a couple of examples the town Myrn is spelled Mryn twice and a minor character named Harlen is spelled Harlan 3 times (25 mentions of Harlen).

Or consider this sentence: "The bars that he had cut through were hole again!" The word hole clearly is supposed to be "whole".

Now, while most books, especially indie releases, have some errors there are simply too many here. Thankfully the story is engaging enough to keep me reading past these errors, though I cringe every time I see another one.

Dragons and griffins and magic! Oh my!
Jeffrey Poole started the Bakkian Chronicles with an inviting blend of characters, added a juicy mix of magic, and seasoned all of this with fantastical creatures. His excellent world building skills, combined with that delightful brew, turned into a absolutely wonderful book you can sink your teeth into.

Book 2, of the Bakkian Chronicles does not disappoint. Fans of fantasy, dragons, and magic will be thrilled with this second installment in the trilogy. The writing is stronger, the characters are funnier, the magic is better.

Be sure to look for the final installment of this amazing trilogy!

Reminiscent of Piers Anthony, Mr. Poole is one that is sure to delight fans for years to come.

Just finished this and the first one on Kindle (free for the first one, $3 for the second), and I found both of them highly enjoyable. A popcorn novel for sure...don't go looking for the next War and Peace but it's not meant to be that. It pokes a little fun at fantasy novels along the way, and includes lots of current references. If you're looking for something easy, entertaining and fun I'd recommend this. Looking forward to the third installment!

Almost as captivating as the first novel - the story is still absorbing and easy to fall into. My only complaint is that the writing style seems a little rushed - little bits could have been fleshed out here and there, and certain times some players step out of character. Not quite as good as the first entry in this series, but I still very much look forward to reading the third book!

Loved it. This series is amazing. Funny in all the right places, believable husband and wife interaction…and a great magic system in play. The editing was so much better in this one than the first book, still some mistakes but on the whole much better editing. The only thing that I did not like was the use of the word retarded.

Soo good! I fell in love with the world of Lentari with the first book but had a some troubled spots when it came to writing style. With the second book, I am completely hooked, and the writing has become much more fluid. This series of books are wonderful entertaining fun reads, I highly recommend them!
