Edgar Lee Masters (Garnett, Kansas, August 23, 1868 - Melrose Park, Pennsylvania, March 5, 1950) was an American poet, biographer, and dramatist. He is the author of Spoon River Anthology, The New Star Chamber and Other Essays, Songs and Satires, The Great Valley, The Serpent in the Wilderness An Obscure Tale, The Spleen, Mark Twain: A Portrait, Lincoln: The Man, and Illinois Poems. In all, Masters published twelve plays, twenty-one books of poetry, six novels and six biographies, including those of Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, Vachel Lindsay, and Walt Whitman.

A coroner explores the life of a woman (symbolizing America) as it intersects with others. Decent idea. Flat repetitive execution.

La vida de Elenor Murray es sometida a escrutinio en este poema polifónico que es también la autopsia de su cadáver y la investigación judicial sobre su posible asesinato a manos de uno de sus muchos amantes. Como en 'Spoon River Anthology', este poemario es un retrato colectivo de América del mismo modo que lo es cada uno de sus personajes.

El poema nos presenta a muchos individuos confesándose ante el juez, nos introduce en sus intimidades, sus deseos, sus culpas y su experiencia de Elenor, identificada con las fuerzas de la naturaleza, la soltera a quien todos los casados desean y cuya libertad no reconocen, la víctima de los celos de los demás.

Masters retrata a una nación cuya vida transcurre entre un torrente y una llama.

Una pega es la irregularidad de la traducción: diría que la obra original es el doble de larga y aquí se omiten al menos 5 voces. Los traductores se disculpan diciendo que consideran que no tiene importancia y que se sienten mejores personas tras haber terminado su trabajo. Barra libre.
