I'm really good at figuring carbohydrates on labeled foods, using a scales to weigh fruit and vegetables and find the carb content, and even counting the carbs in a serving of 49-ingredient casserole if I have the recipe. But. Eyeballing food at a restaurant or potluck and magically knowing how many carbs I'm dishing onto my plate...Not so good. My first potlucking attempt (last night) resulted in a three-hour-post-meal blood sugar reading of 254. Eh, whoops.😳 So I'm desperately in need of the guestimation section of this book. Maybe a year from now I can dominate those potlucks and buffets!
I first read this book a few years ago and didn't realize I hadn't reviewed it until I pulled it back out to re-read.
Let me start off by saying that Gary Scheiner is fabulous. His books are informative and useful and they should be recommended reading for all diabetics. I wish someone had given me a copy before we were even released from the hospital.
If you have this and the Calorie King book, carb counting (and understanding the concept of carb factors) will be so much easier.
