Twice as Hot by Gena Showalter is a paranormal romantic suspense novel set in contemporary times when the book was published (2010). It features Belle Jamison and Rome Masters. Both are employed by a government agency known as Paranormal Studies and Investigations and both have extraordinary capabilities. But Belle is still learning to control her supernatural capabilities. She and Rome are engaged, but he returns from a mission with selective memory loss. Additionally, the man responsible for taking those memories wants Belle for himself. On top of that, a new group of supervillains is causing trouble.

This is a story that combines romance, suspense, and action with humor. A fiery and intense protagonist, a manipulative ex-wife, a supervillian antagonist, and great secondary characters are combined with a compelling story line, exciting scenes, and a plot with a few twists and turns.
Overall, this second and final book in the Tales of an Extraordinary Girl is an entertaining read with emotions yo-yoing, plenty of action, and an excellent wrap-up for the series.

All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

4 stars!

I had forgotten how addictive miss Gina Showalter’s writing can be and unforgettable, since I read the first book three years ago I was able to jump into this one without a problem.

I think it took me a while to read this one because of the blurb I wasn’t sure where the author was taking belle and Rome’s relationship. I was a nervous wreck not knowing if Rome’s ex wife’s prediction would come true, I mean I knew it wouldn’t but dammit I suffered through those glimpses of doubt. Not because Rome and Belle didn’t love each other but because the author made sense of how they could break up. But I think the was the whole point of the plot no matter what doubts or memory loss happened to either of them the love they have for each other goes beyond the logic of the mind.

Of course between the doubts if their relationship would survive we have a bunch of bad guys new allies with amazing super powers to deal with. And without the sarcastic humor and sexy banter between all the characters in this series, it just wouldn’t be complete. I’m really glad I finally read this book and even though I’m not a fan of books with the same couple that go on and on I wouldn’t mind more of this series.❤️

4 ½-5 stars – Paranormal Romance

Anyone who's read my review for Playing with Fire knows how much I loved it, especially heroine Belle's sarcastic humor and the sexy romance between her and uber yummalicious agent/assassin Rome.

So I was totally ooh goody, goody gum drops for more Belle and Rome in Twice as Hot; but there's trouble in paradise for the engaged lovers, and it ended up being an emotional roller coaster to get to their HEA. Luckily, there's plenty of fun, action, hot sexual tension, and snarky humor to entertain along the way.

I was gaga for Rome in Playing with Fire, but he acted like a real jerk for much of this. But Belle's not a simpering damsel in distress, so she refused to play the jilted, wilted flower and never gave up on them as a couple.

There were a lot of funny moments, but I think the scene with Belle and her sidekick Tanner discussing possible superhero names for newly acquired, and formerly badgal, agent Elaine, aka Draino, was one of my favorites.

"Oh, and guess what? I've renamed her Super Absorber," Tanner said.
I tried not to cringe. "You realize that name makes her sound like a tampon, right?"

So although I didn't enjoy Twice as Hot as much as Playing with Fire, it's still a superfun, supersexy, and highly entertaining read. 4 ½-5 stars!

I love this series. If I could personally commission Ms. Showalter to continue the series, I SO would.

This was a great sequel for our dynamic duo, Rome (aka Cat Man) and Belle (aka Homicidal Tendencies Wench), both of whom continue to be, individually, two of my favorite characters and, together, one of my favorite couples. Between Rome’s memory loss, Rome’s ex (Lexis) trying to win back his heart, M-squared (new guy) trying to steal Belle’s heart, and new plots by the bad buys, the couple has their work cut out for them. They get some help with the return of Tanner, who is as funny as ever, and a few new, slightly less memorable secondary characters. However, the introduction of more characters, particularly those with some inventive paranormal abilities, adds some nice complexity and opens the door to some good action in this book and (hopefully) future stories.

The one thing I found lacking in the story is some of the interactions between Rome and Belle that I loved in Playing with Fire Tales of an Extraordinary Girl 1. While I certainly felt the love (emotional and hot & steamy love scenes) and they had some laugh out loud moments, for me, it wasn’t as prominent as the first book. To be fair, it’s hard to have a couple fall in love for the first time in every book. Also, this change in interaction is partially due to Belle maturing with their powers and the underlying story line which has a bit of a rift between the love birds. While I was hoping for a few more laughs and sass, I appreciate that Ms. Showalter had the characters develop in an interesting / credible way and still created a page-turner.

Another great book for your library!! Help support the ‘Bring Me More Tales of an Extraordinary Girl’-cause and go buy this book.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVED this series. I enjoyed book 2 just as much, if not more than the first book. I loved the plot of Twice as Hot. I was emotional within the first two chapters, and by emotional I mean I wanted to punch one of the characters I was so mad, and I also had to fight to keep the tears in check. I didn't expect to be so emotionally invested in this book, so that was a pleasant surprise.

What I just can't believe is that I haven't heard all that much about these books. I know they are somewhat older now, but they are SO worth the read. I HIGHLY recommend this series for fans of Paranormal Romance--and don't let the covers sway you--I thought these were YA paranormal novels, but they are smokin hot adult reads. Not erotic...adult. I will be rereading this series again.

This was a surprising good read and I pretty much enjoy anything Gena Showalter writes. Twice as Hot was better than the first book in my opinion. Belle and Rome are planning their wedding when after a mission Rome losses his memories. To the point where he can't even remember Belle and he thinks he is still married to his ex.

God my heart said 'ouchie' a few times and I admit I was thinking 'screw Rome' he doesn't deserve you anyway. Yes, sometimes I talk to books ::blush::. You learn why and how Rome's memories were taken and you kind of almost root for the bad guy a little bit.

If you are a Gena Showatler fan this was a surprisingly good read that surpassed my expectations.

I can't believe how sad I was during parts of this book. First person point of view definitely makes it feel like I'm the character of the book, but the emotional level of this book hit me hard.
Rome went on a mission without Belle, and a man who can take memories from you slipped inside Rome and...well, he took memories from him. The catch? All of the memories were of Belle. This guy- Memory Man- felt the love between the two of them and wanted that, he fell in love with Belle through Rome's memories, and wanted her.
Meanwhile, Rome gets back to PSI headquarters and is comatose for a few days. But Belle's emotions cause her powers to go haywire, so she can't be in the same room with Rome, instead she's stuck watching through the glass as Lexis (his ex-wife) holds his hand. But when he wakes up, and sees Belle, he turns instead to Lexis..who knew!! Damn her! and sent him off anyway, because she wanted to get him back! grr...
So begins the whole Rome can't get Belle out of his head, but still feels married to Lexis. It yanked me around on Belle's emotional roller-coaster ride and wow! I felt them all as if they were mine.
Memory Man (Jean-Luc actually) tries to help Belle as much as possible, and tries to get her to give him a chance to treat her like a queen. He turns out to be a good guy and I really hope he's happy with Lexis (who thinks he's her soulmate) even if I am still pissed at Lexis for sending Rome off to get his memories swiped. She knew! (see what I mean? I'm pissed for real at fictional characters!-Damn you Gena Showalter for making me "feel" for these characters! You are an amazing writer and I think that this is an amazing series!)-yes I'm talking to GS as if she'll ever read this :)
Anyways, if you have this book, READ IT NOW!!! I don't think it's been since Karen Marie Moning's Fever series that I've felt this strongly about a book.

This....book.....was.....FANTASTIC!

Oh my, there is so many good things to say about it I don't know where to start! OK so Belle and Rome have just gotten engaged and are still madly in love. BUT Rome comes back from a mission and a guy called 'Memory-Man' has taken all the memories from him of Belle or anything to do with her (such as Tanner and Sherridan etc...) In enters evil bitch ex-wife Lexis! Oh this woman...I wanted to bitch slap her soooooooo many times. Rome wakes up in the hospital with Lexis and Belle there and he immediately turns to Lexis because he still thinks they are married breaking poor Belles heart (not to mention mine!) So this leads to Belles emotions going all haywire and fires/ice/dirt pies/tornadoes constantly being started.

Then we have flowers, chocolates and lingerie being sent to Belle by a 'secret admirer' now that she is no longer with Rome...but HRM who could it be! :P I loved the fact that Rome went all alpha cavemen style and did the whole 'mine' every time some1 showed interest in Belle even though he had no idea why. Made for some awkward and wonderful situations!

THEN we have 'Desert Skank' who is all about world domination and getting even with Belle for some reason. So on top of trying to get her fiance to remember her and away from the clutches of his bitch of an ex-wife, Belle has to try stop Desert Gal.

This book is full of action, cat fights, sexual tension and emotional highs and lows! I admit I was a little worried that things would not end like I wanted them too but the author has managed to pull of an amazing ending to an amazing series. Definitely worth 5 stars!

Just finished this and I'm a little sad only because Gena doesn't know if there will be more in the series :( So please have mercy on me and go out and buy this book!!!!! The more people buy this book the more chances there are for a third, fourth, fifth, and so on in this AWESOME series!!!

In this sequel we once again see Belle, by far my fave heroine in a long long time!! and the love of her existence Rome :) Also Sherridan, Tanner, Alexis and a few more new characters. At the beginning of this story Belle is about to burn, freeze, cause a natural disaster if she doesn't hear from Rome soon. Well as it turns out Rome was on a mission that didn't turn out to well. He comes home but not the same Rome we know and love. He's lost his memory, well, he's lost all of his memories pertaining to Belle. This little problem throws a huge wrench into Belle's plans to marry cat man. Through this story we see our incredible couple battle, love, and ultimately find the end of their story. I won't give away much but these two are CRAZY :)

The end for me was a little to clean cut but I liked it none the less. I really do hope that this is a series. I love Rome and Belle. I find myself daydreaming alot about them, well, okay more Rome so but whatever :)

Definitely going to keep these books on my shelf for a very very long time ;)

3.5 stars As mentioned in my other review, this was an entertaining series but just didn't live up to her other series. It lacked the intensity and passion of her other books. However, it did have its moments of angst when Rome no longer remember Belle. It was quite sad and very satisfying when he did get his memories back and laid in to Lexis, his ex-wife.

I never did like his ex-wife in either book. Her behavior in this one was just awful and she can apologize as much as she wants but what she did was horrible - to Rome, Belle, Tanner and even Sunny. Horrid woman. I loved that Belle didn't just stand by and act the defeated woman against her but punched her several times in the face. Sweet satisfaction.

I loved Tanner even in the first book and even more in this second one. I'm glad he got his HEA.

This was a sweet book but still missing, I guess, that darkside that I like so much in her other series books.

*2.5 Stars
Twice as Hot starts shortly after the last one with Belle planning her upcoming nuptials to Rome. Early on Rome has all his Belle memories stolen by a villain. This adds a sprinkle of angsty goodness because after Rome forgets Belle, Lexis manipulates things to try to get him back. I say a sprinkle because Belle is bummed about it, but it’s handled flippantly like… saying ouch, rather than having deep feelings about it.

Bottom Line- Much the same. Immature, too long, repetitive, and Belle’s emotions were all over. Everyone gets a HEA. I’m not sure who this should be geared towards… I would say tweens based on the maturity level, but there’s too much talk about/and sex for that to be appropriate. *2.5 ⭐equates to… 2 for enjoyableness but rounded up because it’s a solid book just not for me.

Love, love, love the way this turned out! Mostly, because things were really up in the air there for a while. It was as exciting as the first book and I'd love a third if Gena ever got a chance to write one. Belle is still one of my favorite heroines and Rome is crazy hawt. I ended up feeling happy for just about every character. Saw that Cody/Sherridan thing coming a mile away, too. Lots of happy endings. I really must read more of Gena Showalter's books.

2.5* rounded up. I really liked the first third of the book which focussed on the mc's and their relationship. It didn't maintain that level of interest for the rest of the book but definately better than the first book.

I bought this book as soon as it hit the shelves, in the hopes of purchasing the first book also but it was out of stock at that time and so months had passed until I decided that I can probably get through this without the first book... It worked. Belle, Rome, Tanner, Lexis, Cody, Sheridan and Co. have such solid characters that I never regret that I haven't read the first book yet plus the important details of the past was embedded in Twice as Hot so, my questions was answered. From how Belle got her powers? How did Rome and Belle met? Who was the villain? Who is responsible for all these experiments? (yes as far as I can tell only 2 of the characters are legit - born with their powers) What is OSSA? PSI? etc...

Twice As Hot starts with Belle talking to Sheridan about the wedding, Tanner's depression and her blinding love for Rome. The love for the man in question was everything that she describe and then more. I wasn't not sure that I will like Belle due to the infinite swooning and praise about her man. I could tell that she has a strong personality and I hate that she has become one of those women who forget who they are when they are in love but that all changed when Lexis (her fiance's ex wife, mother of her fiance's child, who also broke Tanner's heart) came knocking at the door to inform her that something has happened. Rome and Cody was injured but now out of harm's way. Upon hearing this news she rushed to their headquarters where she was faced with the greatest shock of her life, now with all the villains who came chasing her from Playing with Fire this one seems to be the most heart breaking of them all, Rome Master the love of her life does not remember who she is! All the memories of her was stolen by a supernatural scientific experiment known as Memory Man and what's worse was the bitch ex-wife is trying to take him back.

What would you do if you were placed on Belle's shoes? Man instead of having that awesome cat fight with Lexis, I would have probably torched her or freeze her. I like the whole premise of the story. The superheros vs. villain gives me the feel of the supernatural world as supposed to the comic hero type. I am very intrigue on the character of Dr. Roberts, I got to get book one. I love the new Belle she's stronger, more goal oriented and more independent as a woman and as an agent. The supporting characters are also key on the success of these book. Tanner is my favorite of them all. He is the perfect guy friend. Perverted, protective, funny and loving.

I have added this on my "favorite series shelf", this is a must read series. Love, action, drama, girl fight, comedy, and intense emotions while saving the world one scrim (supernatural criminal) at a time. After chapter one, I couldn't let sleep get in the way of finishing these book.

I enjoyed this book. I laughed several times. Felt the outrage and jealousy for the MC. It had just the right mixture of emotions and it all wraps up in a nice little bow at the end. I don’t think I’ve read a book from Gena Showalter that I haven’t liked. She’s one of my faves for sure.

Yet again, Gena Showalter delivers an adventurous, sexy, exciting novel. I was really excited when I heard that she was continuing with the Tales of an Extraordinary Girl series, and I really hope that there will be more to come.

Just from reading the description on the back, I knew this book was going to have me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I knew that for a lot of the novel I was going to be mad and I was right. Lexis foreseeing Rome being hurt and doing nothing so she could try and get him back? Memory Man stealing Rome's memories of Belle? Lexis crushing Tanner (in the beginning) by unceremoniously breaking up with him? Belle forgiving Jean-Luc a.k.a. Memory Man so easily? All of it was unacceptable. I was also very happy throughout much of the novel, though. Belle and Rome being together, despite his memory loss. Tanner finding real love with Elaine. Sherridan and Cody falling for each other and finally settling down. One of my favorite parts, though, would have to be when Belle was being taken by the super strong guy and Rome attacked in his jaguar form. Pretty sexy. Oh, also when Belle was beating up Lexis. Way to go, Belle!

I think it's needless to say that Gena Showalter knows what she's doing. I love a book where the author makes me feel more than one emotion, like I said above: a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Complex characters draw me in and Gena continues to do that with every novel of hers that I read. And, of course, the sex scenes were great. Playing with Fire, the first novel in the Tales of an Extraordinary Girl series, was fantastic and I was impatiently waiting for Twice As Hot. After reading this book, the long wait no longer seems so bad. This is a book that I could read over and over again and still love. And still get angry about.

A few years ago I've read Playing with Fire (the first book with Belle Jamison) and I remember laughing. A lot. So, when Twice as Hot came out, I immediately bought it and wasn't left disappointed.

Light-read as it was, the book offered excitement and passion. Of course, if I were to compare it with some other, involving superheroes or secret agencies it would . well, be very hard to compare. And I'll tell you why.

First, as I've mentioned above, it was a light-read, meaning it didn't have the intensity some others do. It felt more like an adult fairy tale than a typical romance book you could almost believe to be true, if not for the paranormal part.

Second, the book was written in the first person, meaning there's only one point of view to be known. And while I always did miss the hero's inner world in such books, Twice as Hot made it work.

Of course, while reading it, I kept wondering what kind of criminals would call themselves by the names such as Pretty Boy or Desert Gal. To my understanding, no self respecting one would. Plus, the details about the undercover operations, facilities and protocols were a bit sketchy. I could even say the book didn't have the air of a true agents doing their jobs, but more of a group of amateurs playing the game of agents.

But other than that, the book was a true delight. Funny and saucy. Reminding me of a comic book, in the best possible way. Another unique page turner of Gena Showalter's.

Just as good as the first book. Belle is a superhero, her name changes often depending on who she's speaking with but she has the ability to control the four elements. At the start of the book, her fiance Rome is missing. She gets more and more worried as time moves on, and when Lexis comes to Belle saying that Rome is in trouble they run off to find him. Rome and his friend Cody were attacked by Memory Man, and Rome has returned with some memories missing. It seems he can't seem to remember anything about Belle. As Belle fights to try to get her fiance to remember her, she's also fighting her own abilities which seem to be more out of control then normal and she's also fighting to save the world from Desert Girl (she can suck the water out of anyone she wants)

I find that Showalter creates a world that sucks me in, and the fact that her series are completely different and yet so entrancing makes me like her even more. This series is different from the regular PNR books that you find out there. There are few about "superheroes" and I think she did a great job. The heroine is funny, and quick witted. The book is humorous and the dialogue is also intelligent. I think at this point, whatever Showalter comes out with, I will read it. She hasn't failed me yet.

I have never been so pleased with a sequel, as I am with Twice as Hot. Mrs. Showalter has a gift that I believe is rare when it comes to writing in first person, of course I don't really care for first person stories which is why I feel she did such a great job. From the first book I knew Belle and liked her attitude, but in this book you saw her not only grow stronger in her powers but in herself. Also she kicks major tail in this book... I can't right a review without touching base on how wonderful Rome was; at first I was really scared, but like always he pulled through and stayed the man of my dreams. LOL! I loved that you saw true love at its best in this book. You get insight into other characters that you grew to love in the first book and see them grow and become who they wanted to be, which always makes me happy. I will end this with a note of how much I can't stand Lexis, no matter what she would do to redeem herself, in my eyes I don't think she could.

Muah, muah, muah! I LOVED this book. I was one of the first books in a long while I did not put down once I started reading it. I resented anything that distracted me from it, and read until 2 in the morning. Goody good smutty goodness.
I was actually leary of reading this, as I couldn't figure out where Gena was going to go with the story that would still be interesting. Without giving too much away, lets just say that she pulled out all the stops to do so. Well done Gena Showalter. You are amazing.

This book was the sequel to Playing with Fire, Tales of an Extraordinary Girl. I enjoyed the 1st book but found this one difficult to finish. The plot was flighty, scattered and difficult to read. I found myself skimming over the story just to get to the end. Book one was good enough to have been a stand alone story and if Gena Showalter releases a third book in attempt to make these stories a series, I won't even bother reading it. I do love the Lords of the Underworld series and I see that 3 of those books are coming out this summer. Can't wait.

This book took forever to read in the midst of moving, getting a puppy, opening the coffee shop, and midterms. I liked it, but I think if everything wasn't going on, I might have liked it more. The story was good, if a bit predictable. I really wanted her to end up with the bad guy though :)

Poco. Molto poco.

Easy, fun, sexy, enjoyable read

Loved Twice as Hot. I read book 1 in series yrs ago and finally bought book2 in series. I'm so glad I did! Lots of action, lots of great sex, intriguing characters with imaginative abilities, and of course, a very hawt hero in Rome Masters!!! His words sent shivers down my spine! Belle of course is awesome. She's a superhero heroine who has flaws. A definite must read for those who love a fun, hot and steamy romance with characters that have flaws, a comic flair to a romance with intrigue and action with a big dash of paranormal added in. I found this was an easy read that kept me turning pages and enthralled. It's definitely an escapist type of romance novel. I found I was tuning out all that needed to be done and everyone around me just so I could devour this book. Despite being over 400pages I read in under a day. It definitely is the type of book to curl up with when you need to decompress from the worries of the work around you and go to your "happy place" which would be the paranormal work of Belle and Rome courtesy of Gena Showalter, who by the way is an awesome writer. I've been a fan of hers for well over a decade. I did consider downgrading to a 4 star due to I did find a few editing errors in the form of words being misspelled, misused, or not making sense. They were few and far between. I expect more from a book publish through a major publisher, and a book that in Ebook form is $5.99. It that I expect perfection, but don't they have bunches of editors, proofreaders and such? Surely for that price, I expect minor errors such as I listed to be at a bare minimum or nonexistent. However, the errors didn't impact me significantly enough in my flow of reading to really impact my enjoyment or reading pleasure. There was only 2 times I had to stop and reread section to try and figure out what it meant. Edits I finally shrugged it off and thought who cares, except I paid $5.99 for this book. Me Showalter deserves better from her publisher. I did also feel that those who struggle with reading that this book wasn't to intense or kind boggling. I feel it is appropriate for those who aren't as proficient at reading. If it weren't for the sex content, I'd say it would be good for readers of high school age(that's the adult in me saying that, even though I truly feel a mature high school student would enjoy this book, shoot, some of the stuff they read is much worse). I would feel it's maybe pg-13 rated if you went with what movie guidelines are. Highly recommend this book an author. My rating would be 4.5 stars though that's not available so bumped up to 5 stars.

I gotta say, I think as a book club we read this book in a way not intended. We read book #1 and immediately started book #2. In real life, there was a big gap between the two, so I think you get more enjoyment overall if you haven’t just read a very similar tale. That being said, I enjoyed this one more than the first and was glad we read it.

Belle ended the previous book with a new job in a secret organization for paranormals. She was also in a relationship with Rome and headed to the altar (and potentially step-mom-hood). Her new friend Tanner was recruited for the same organization and her BFF was super supportive of her weirdo new powers. All in all, things were looking resolved, like we didn’t need another book unless something happened to derail all that, right?

The author says that this book is supposed to tie up loose ends but it really just pulled things apart for me. The ex-wife that seemed OK with things (especially while hooking up with Tanner) suddenly dropped him and wanted her ex-husband back. The BFF who was supportive is suddenly jealous of the weirdo powers. The kicker, however, is that Rome ends up losing all memory of her, having to re-learn each other with the obstacle of ex-wife roadblocks. It was just… weird. The character shifted and sometimes in not a good way.

The good? The sizzle was still there, the characters overall got more developed and better, and things resolve themselves relatively quickly. We do get a bit of a wrap up somewhat early, which leads to multiple ending-feeling chapters along the way. No complaints if I had just read this one, but right off the first book it felt like a re-do (a better one, though!).

5 FANTASTIC Stars!!!!!

I loved this book......loved it. I read the first and really liked it, but I was very reluctant to read this one.....and I don't know why. Maybe it was because I was worried about the angst - and there was some of that....or maybe it was because I really like the first book but didn't love it, love it.

However, I am here to say...I freaking loved this one. I was thinking these books are like a League of Extraordinary Gentleman. I digress....

I won't waste time rehashing what the book is about but I will tell you what I loved.....
Belle- she was awesome....totally kick ass and honest. I loved her character. Since the start of book 1, she continued to mature to the point where at the end of this one, she was ah-mazing! The humor throughout the book is one of the things I love the most and most every character was pretty funny in some way...well, not Rome....he was alpha in a hot but not funny way. I loved Rome...I still love Rome. I also fell in love with the bad guy....but he was such a nice bad guy. Hard not to love him.

The book was action packed with enough detail to keep you there....but not such that I felt like skimming....I hate when I find myself uninterested.....I was totally stuck to every word. As I write this, I feel like I'm on Romper Room.....I see Tanner, and Sheridan, and I see Cody and Belle, and I see Lexis and I see M Squared......so, I say make time to read the book and if you are like me, at the end, you will say.......What?!?! That's is? 2 books in this series?! How can that be?!

This book blew me away. From the beginning to end I was enraptured with the story, which is funny because it’s not the first time I’ve started it.
I did not like it at first, because I had entered a reading slump where only specific plots and writing styles interested me, so only after a few pages I dropped it with the promise of picking it one day again.
I’m happy to say, I decided to finish the duology in the end, as it was so sassy and well written even if many, many months later.
My only regret is not remembering the characters as well as I did when I read the first book, but still all the inner turmoil, love and pain of Belle and the other characters was so beautiful to read. I’m honestly so mad with myself for not picking up the book earlier.
Halfway through the book I realised there would be no more extra story’s of the Wonder girl, which honestly brought me almost to tears.
Belle was so sweet, funny and relatable through the whole book I felt connected to her and basically like the main character, I will definitely miss her and try to reconnect to her by reading other of Gena Showalter’s books.
Right book wrong time I guess.
