Clarissa Stacia Explains it All.

Yes, I am dating myself with that reference.

As I was reading GitBT, I found myself changing the meaning of scenes in order to entertain myself. Entire passages of dialogue and bland scenes were spiced up in my head as I made the Sheikh more of a jackass and the woman less intriguing than she was supposed to be.

Here's the book as I saw it :

The book states - Amir had his pick of gorgeous women on six contents. He chose his own bed partners.

Translation - Amir knew that he had hos in different area codes.

The book states - Unusual was right. In Monte Carlo, Moscow or Stockholm her coloring wouldn't warrant a second glance.

Translation - Men always want what's different. If you feel unattractive, move to another country where people don't look like you, and you'll be an instant bombshell.

The book states - She'd stabbed him!

Translation - Foreplay!

The book states - "I prefer my women willing."

Translation - Fear and wealth make everyone willing. You'll get there soon enough.

The book states - "Come! You need sustenance." He didn't quite click his fingers, but his abrupt gesture made her step automatically towards a low, brass-topped table.

Translation - "Bitch, get over here!"

The book states - He trusted her with the blade? Or was it a trick to lull her into relaxing?

Translation - He thinks you're so weak, he'd have no problem overpowering you.

The book states - Her only hope lay in not giving up. She still had to find a way out of here.

Translation - Her only hope lay in getting laid.

The book states - It must appear we spent the night as lovers.

Translation - I have a rep to protect.

The book states - Amir shuddered as desire racked him.

Translation - He really had a seizure.

The book states - She dropped to the ground, her legs opening in perfect splits. Desire surged. He wanted her wrapped around him.

Translation - My translation would be the same here.

The book states - Only days ago the thought of Amir looking at her desire had made her reach for a knife. But now.

Translation - But now, she reaches for a vibrator.

The book states - Some strange version of Stockholm Syndrome?

Stacia thinks - You wish the explanation was so easily explained. That's all you.

The book was fine - everything was pretty much surface level, so we never got to really see more to the characters beyond basic and weak sexual tension. If I'd read Girl in the Bedouin Tent before I'd read Sheikh's Scandal, I might have given a more satisfactory rating. Even while Sheikh's veered off course with some hard-to-believe moments (not buying that a man abstained from sex for 3 years for a woman he didn't care about, when he had a harem at his disposal), at least I felt like there was some weight to the story itself, cheesy as it was at times.

I loved this book-- the h is kidnapped and presented to the H as a new toy for the harem. She is not about to take that lying down and puts up a good fight to escape. The H is the new lord of the land and is working to establish his government but he is falling hard for the H. They have some great passion and nice moments until she finds out he is negotiating an arranged marriage and may want to keep her around on the side. Since her mum was a professional mistress and she was attacked by one of the men her mum was with, she has issues and promptly dumps his stupid butt. She does really love him but she has self respect and then he finally figures out what is really important. Great story, loved the characters especially the h, but I understood where the H was coming from to and did not hold his stupidness against him. The sides are well balanced and the HEA is great.

No new ground here. H/h meet when virgin heroine is kidnapped and "gifted" to the Sheikh hero by a desert bandit. The heroine has a poor view of men and sex because her mother was a mistress to many men, including one who tried to molest her.

The H/h eventually become lovers. The heroine is healed of her sexual aversion. Hero is pleased with having the heroine around and can now become betrothed to someone else for political reasons. Black moment. Hero comes to his senses. HEA

So not a lot of drama or conflict. H/h were both nice characters who fell for each other convincingly. The betrothal black moment never seemed a real threat. Just a pleasant romance. (I know - damning with faint praise. There just isn't a lot to talk about.)

A great read! Amir was charming and sophisticated, a true Sheikh. Cassie was an actress, a lonely girl with a tortured past. I really felt I could relate to her. And the ending was so full of emotion and so heartwarming!

Don't read it! It's not finished yet. But I'm hungry... Done!

The h's mom was the OW so the h was an inconvenience, when h's parents broke up the mom became serial mistress. One of those men thought the payment also covered the h so an almost rape happened, the bullying at school and the feeling of being unwanted by everyone made her the strong independent woman she is today. She's an actress but lately she's feeling restless so signs up for a volunteering job teaching English at some Arab country. Then she is kidnapped by barbarians from the H's neighboring country to be presented as the sex slave for the H.

The H's parents only care about partying so his childhood was all about neglect. When the parents die of an overdose he goes to uncle Sheikh, everybody expects him to fail at everything and be like his father so his motivation is to prove them wrong to the point that the elders appointed him to be Sheikh instead of his older cousins (sons of the former Sheikh). Now he's going to the neighboring country to negotiate with the barbarians that are messing up at the frontier, not expecting to find they have a woman against her will to provide him with pleasure during his stay.

The h attacks the H thinking he's about to rape her. She doesn't trust him, he tries to understand what's happening, then she explains and he says he can't help her until the dealings are over but he won't take advantage of her while they're sharing a tent.

It started really nice but after the almost consummation the h became annoying for me. I guess the problem was how the h's past horrors were introduced. I thought her demons were not wanting to be like her mom and how she was bullied for it (and the kidnapping) and then she's going at it with the H but conveniently suddenly she remembers she was almost raped and gets a panic attack. I just didn't like how it was executed specially when a few hours later she conveniently suddenly got over her fears and offered herself to him.

She insisted to herself that didn't want something deeper and at the same time she started wanting more, one line she'd say one thing and the next the contrary so my rolling eyes had no time to rest.
He was ok with something temporary because he already was starting dealings to get a suitable bride. At this point I wasn't feeling it for the h so the H's betrayal didn't sting as it should have.

I liked it that she was quick to leave him. A little groveling and an epilogue a bit further in the future would have been nice enough to round the rating upwards.

Note: GR may not have half stars rating but I do count them!

I freaking loved this book so much and was immediately sucked in from page one. It was just wow from the get go and just ran fantastic all the way through. It was just that freaking good.

And how could it not be with a beginning? Talk about some drama and suspense and just a unique twist and opening that I've never experienced in a Harlequin Presents novel. Now don't get me wrong it had many Presents elements to it, but it was just done in a different way that made me love it. But like I said that opening was something and just immediately grabbed me and hung on for dear life and didn't stop. It was just an amazing beginning which just carried through.

Plus it didn't hurt that Amir was just some alpha hero that I couldn't help but fall in with him. He was just so hot. Oh my lord was he hot, and every time he appeared on the page I had to fan myself because he was just some piece of beefcake. Add to the fact that he was this all powerful hot sheikh and you have a winner of a hero. I just really loved everything about him, and even though he made some mistakes along the way I couldn't help but fall for him more and more as time went by. He wasn't a jerk or cruel to Cassie at all during the novel in fact he was the complete opposite and was a caring guy who provided support and protection from a man who had kidnapped and later gave her to Amir as a "gift" to show appreciation to the sheikh for coming to humble abode. Once Amir learned what he did to poor Cassie, he was truly outraged and vowed revenge on the man for doing this to her and hurting her as well as scaring her. And he vowed to protect Cassie with ever might of his being and protected her by claiming her as "his" knowing that no one would touch her.

It was really sweet to see Amir with Cassie. He was very understanding and listened to her fears and just was like I said her protector in these circumstances without asking for anything in return. Did that mean he didn't want her? No, he wanted her with every part of his being, but he didn't pursue it knowing what she had been through and not wanting to feel like he forced her into anything even though it was killing him to not be able express his desire for her. But he let her set the pace and only acted on his passions when she came to him and only then and then their relationship became heated.

And speaking of their relationship. It was a smoking hot one. Oh my goodness. It was filled with lots of great sexual tension and heat between them. It just sizzled in the air or from the page I could say. I could just feel the sparks flying in each scene they were in together and it was just so good and perfect. Plus adding to the tension was both of them thinking the other didn't want the other which just made it even more sizzling and hot. Just the chemistry was there from word one when she attacked him trying to escape from his clutches believing that he would assault her and from that point on it just kept on going. Their relationship was just perfectly portrayed, and I loved how the fact that they got to know each other and built some trust in one another before finally making love for the first time because it showed that this was more than just slaking of lust but because they wanted that connection to one other.

Plus it helped them able to accept they wanted each other because they had this trust with one another especially on Cassie's end, who believed all men were nothing but pigs only interested in their selfish desires and nothing more including a woman's need. She was nearly raped by one of her mother's boyfriends so that colored her judgments of wanting to get close to with a man (Also the fact she didn't want to end up like her mother who was a mistress to several rich men over). So by building their relationship as well as their trust it was just more realistic of why Cassie chose Amir to be her first and why she wanted to be close to him and feel that connection with another person since she had been alone most of her life without any real love in her life. So I thought that was awesome what Annie West did there plus it added to the sexual tension, which doesn't hurt in romance novels.

Now let's talk about the love scenes. Really there was only two big love scenes in the big and they were combined, by oh my goodness where they hot. As I read them I could practically feel the steam coming off the page. They just had an explosion of passion going on and it was great from beginning, middle, and end. Loved it. And I thought it was good to show how their passion was uncontrollable and passionate and they could just let go with one another. Case and point Amir "letting go" first without her because he couldn't help himself because his passion for her was that uncontrollable and passionate, and he never saw that coming. Not that he really denied his attraction for ever in the book and acknowledged early on that there was something about her that instantly drew him to her, but it was great to see the surprise he got when he did lose control that first time and frankly he was a little embarrassed by the fact because that never happened to him before, but he more than made up for it and ensured her pleasure ten times over, and I just loved seeing and feeling that. I loved seeing Amir loose his head first and it made that love scene more real and more emotional because it was honest. It was nice to see because usually in love scenes guys usually are in control even if only by a thread ensuring that their partner is the one that "lets go" first then allowing themselves to go along for the ride with them. So it was a nice change of pace to see Amir go first and show that their first time though passionate and hot may not have been perfect, but that made it more real and honest, and I liked that touch of honesty to that love scene and I think it made it all the more hotter.

Really the whole romance was really well done I thought, and really had just enough of everything to make it a roller coaster ride, which I wanted. It wasn't too dramatic, but it had enough angst and some raw emotions going on that made me invested in their love story and made me feel right along with them. It was sexy. It was sweet. Really it was a little bit everything that I enjoy out of an escapism romance. I savored it. I didn't rush through it or skim through parts or anything like that I just marinated in because I enjoyed it so so much.

Annie West created yet another winner. I loved everything about it and thought it was perfect from cover to cover. I loved the setting, the characters, the romance, and the steamy factor. I can't express in word how much I loved and enjoyed this book. Just the feels I got from reading this book, and that's what I want from my romance. I can't wait to read another Annie West book and hopefully it will be as good as this one, but I haven't really had a complaint in Annie West books so far so I don't think I will be disappointed if my past readings of her are and indication.

This was a good read,Amir-Cassie both have suffered in the past cause of their parents, carrying the past baggage these two become good individuals and when they meet there's no instant attraction but Amir is taken by Cassie's courage to fight and way she fought, then these spent days together the attraction gets stronger and they give in soon their affair starts,Cassie accepts her love for Love but Amir wants to stay in denial saying its only lust and side by side he is planning his marriage to a repectable family girl

When Cassie comes to know she is very hurt and heart broken she thought they had something special and Amir also felt same as she felt about him,Amir comes and Cassie confronts first he denies but then he also realises how his selfishness has caused Cassie so much pain, hurt n humiliation, that is when Cassie tells him about her mother and Amir goes in guilt Cassie leaves

After 3 weeks Amir comes to meet Cassie confesses his feelings and says that the marriage is called off and he wants only one woman and that is Cassie, both are happy Amir apologises for his actions and Cassie forgives him they get married and have their HEA

Good read

I do really love Annie West, especially her Sheikh romances. This was a great read with a truly feisty heroine and the chemistry between them just sizzled. My only regret is that the end was a little too easily resolved. The hero did some very cruel and unforgivable things to the heroine. Though he wasn't verbally abusive or demeaning to her like other alpha heros, his actions were just as bad.

It just felt like they needed more time to repair the relationship (with a little more groveling) for it to be credible. But all in all, another entertaining read from Annie West!

The heroine Cassie and the hero Amir meet when she is presented to him as a 'favour' during his negotiations with a tribal leader in his country. Cassie is terrified what will happen to her, and attempts to attack Amir in order to try and escape. But she is no match for him and once Amir is able to calm and reassure Cassie that he will not hurt her he learns that she was kidnapped by the tribe when the bus she was travelling on broke down in the desert. Amir promises to protect her, especially after her brutal treatment from the guards, but she has to stay with him in the royal tent until Amir's business is finished. Cassie is nervous around men after a bad experience in her youth, but she feels safe with Amir. As they get to know one another they realise that they desire one another, as well as feeling a connection that is much deeper. Amir finds it hard to end his and Cassie's relationship, but he knows it can never be anything more than a fling as Amir must do his duty for his country and that included marriage to a suitable woman.

I enjoyed this book. It really grabbed my attention right from the very start. I liked that the way the hero and heroine first meet is a little dark and dangerous and very original. Annie West does have a talent for creating exciting back stories/events. Even though the first part of the characters relationship took place over only a couple of days, the author managed to make it seem like it had been longer. The story itself has a wonderful flow, although the almost constant switching of point of view is a little disruptive.
I do think the story lost its way towards the last third, it just didn't seem to have that exciting edge that it started with. The HEA and closing chapters are, however, fantastic.

My 100th HP of the year, completing my HP challenge.

I like this one much better than I expected. I usually have a hard time with the made up Middle Eastern countries and their European seeming sheikhs. I had a couple of flashes here of the hero not seeming realistically Middle Eastern but I just tried to ignore it and enjoy the story.

This story shone in character development. The heroine was realistic in her fear when she was abducted and the hero was wonderful in his gentlemanly reactions to the damsel in distress. He was kind of an ass about keeping her as a lover while planning his marriage to a more suitable woman but it wouldn't be an HP without some hero asshatery now would it?

Well written and moves right along

Cassie is an Australian actress, but she wants something more than that. So when she sees an advertisement for English teachers wanted in Tarakhar, a small but wealthy Arabic country, she applies for the position, and is accepted. Unfortunately, while travelling to the remote town where she will be teaching, the bus breaks down. All the other passengers live nearby and leave on foot, leaving her alone with the driver when bandits attack and kidnap her. She is terrified! So when she is given as a love slave to Sheikh Amir, she has no idea what to expect, and tries to defend herself with a fruit knife. What else is she to do? She has been dresses in those harem clothes, and chained to his bed!
But Amir has no plans of taking a woman against her wishes, and is determined to make matters right. After all, she is kidnapped in his country, but this bandit leader Mustafa whom he is trying to negotiate with. He needs peace along his border! So he cannot take Cassie home with him right now, he has to finish negotiations, and show Mustafa and his bandits that he is worthy of being the Sheikh. But he will protect Cassie, only she cannot leave his tent for the next week. And sleeping together is necessary to make the others think he accepted their “gift”. Even though Amir is to be married to a high ranking virgin in his own country in a few weeks. But the more he gets to know Cassie, the harder it is to keep his hands to himself. She is so gorgeous! And Cassie falls just as hard for Amir. Is it really possible that there are honourable men? Her mother was her father’s mistress for years, until she was replaced. After that, she took other protectors, and Cassie preferred staying at boarding school as much as she could, especially when one of those men thought that buying her mother gave him rights to Cassie as well. Cassie has sworn never to be like her mother.

Cassie and Amir do become lovers, and he doesn’t even notice she was a virgin. Back at his palace, he keeps her away from the main part, in the harem. Where she is bored silly, and refuses the many treasures he wants to give her. She only accepts a few clothes, and she wants to start teaching. The evenings they do spend together, while his marriage negotiations continue. He will get over his attraction to her soon enough, right?

But when Cassie finds out about it, and realises she has become a mistress after all, she is devastated, and leaves at once. How could she not see this? Why was so silly to dream that there was more between them? Was this what happened to her mother as well?

I know, not my usual reading material. I have won this (signed) book on Facebook, thanks to a recommendation by Anna Campbell. I have shared some emails with Annie West, who is a very nice Australian author, and so I was glad to get this book for review.

I did enjoy parts of this book, but thought Cassie way too naïve for me to really like. Yes, she has had a hard childhood, not getting cared for by either parent and considered an accident, and cramping her mother’s style. But she has a good education, and she is a good actress. And now she wants to do something good, and teach English to Arabic women.
Of course I do blame Amir for deceiving her, not being honest or truthful, and totally blinded with his desire not to be like his parents, who were only focused on their own pleasures and their next thrill.

And still, the book got to me, and I did enjoy the ending a lot. Yes, it did make me cry, I confess. But it also made me smile when closing the book. All in all, this is a lovely romance story. The language used is very descriptive, very flowery.

7 stars.

So it's a sheik book. If you aren't already a sheik-book-reader, just be prepared. To enjoy this, you'll have to put aside all sorts of doubts and disbelief and surrender to the fantasy. If you can do that, you'll find great writing, a sweet love story, and a surprisingly strong, realistic heroine. A fabulous read by Annie West, one of my favorite category writers.

The thing I liked most about this book was the "black moment". Not that it's a unique moment, but the author wrote some very compelling emotions on both parts, and I appreciate that. Sometimes the black moments in categories are kind of weak, but I thought this one had some nice emotional intensity.

This was a pretty good way to spend an evening if you like Sheikh books or books with a kidnapped heroine. I'm a little disappointed we didn't get to see what the penance was for the guy who kidnapped Cassie. That was totally brushed under the rug.

Cassie gets kidnapped while travelling in a foreign country and is given to a neighboring Sheikh as a sex slave. Sheikh Prince Amir is in a nearby country for talks, and finds a girl in his tent. He's not happy that she hasn't been treated well, and works to earn her trust. The two start up a tryst and continue when they return to Amir's country, but what that tryst is seems to be different for each of them. This book was just okay and thankfully short!
