Stephanie finally gets the chance to make her mark on Savannah’s architecture.
Stephanie was thrilled to return to her hometown of Savannah and reunite with her tribe of girlfriends from high school. However, opportunities for contemporary architects in a city known for its historic houses were scarce. When offered a job for a NEW renovation, she couldn’t believe her good fortune. If only she had known it was a 250-YEAR-OLD castle that came with an irritating, kilt-wearing project manager.
In settling his father’s estate in Scotland, Philip discovers he owns a castle on the outskirts of Savannah, Georgia.
With his ties to Scotland dwindling, Philip throws caution to the wind and sets sail for Savannah to renovate his newfound castle. He soon discovers his property is part of a land grant which will expire at the end of the year. If that’s not enough, throw in unobtainable permits, old money, and a “bonnie” yet strong-willed architect.
Can they put aside their differences and trust one another?
Stephanie and Philip must work together to preserve this lost piece of Savannah’s history. With time racing against them, a trip to Scotland may hold the key to their wild success—or whopping failure.
The third book in the Saints of Savannah series definitely did not disappoint! I love the way that the author describes Savannah and Scotland in this novel. As a native of Savannah I enjoy reading about my hometown and seeing it through others eyes! I have learned new things about Savannah from each of her books! Her character development is incredible and I feel like I could be friends with the characters in her books. Oh and by the way - book me a ticket!!!! I am ready to explore Scotland after reading this book! Another winner! really hoping that there is a Book #4!
The Castle on Wassaw Sound is a delightful book to escape from your stressful day! This book is the third release in the Saints of Savannah series and it doesn’t disappoint! If you are looking for a fun but also interesting beach read look no further. I love getting to know the “saints” and I look forward to reading the next one!
This is the the first book I’ve read from the series and I definitely plan to read the rest. Being from Savannah, I loved the hometown details mixed with local history in the story. There was a lot to keep up with but it wasn’t so much that the story was hard to read.
Warning, once you start reading The Castle on Wassaw Sound you may not be able to put it down! The main characters are Stephanie, the owner of a structural engineering company and Philip McLaughlin, a Scottish gentleman who comes to Savannah to investigate his inheritance. The story includes the bones of an unidentified person, a castle on an island, historical appearances by King George II and James Oglethorpe, religious artifacts, gangsters, German spies in World War II, and blackmail. This is the third book Ms. Ebberwein has written and I believe it is the best yet. The series is based on a "tribe of friends". A strong friendship that started with a group of six freshmen in high school continues with weekly lunches. Stephanie is the featured friend in this book. The women in the tribe are strong independent women who provide support for each other through their adventures. I recommend this book to any reader who enjoys intrigue, historical references, adventure, and strong bonds of friendship between women.
Merged review:
This book should come with a warning, once you start reading it, you can't put it down! This is a wonderful story of a woman who owns a structural engineering company in Savannah, Georgia. Savannah is known for it's beautiful historic district. Stephanie has a reputation for condemning more buildings than restoring. She is hired by the state of Georgia to evaluate the structural foundation of an old building on an island. Philip McLaughlin is a Scottish gentleman who moves to Savannah to investigate his inheritance. His building was constructed though a land grant to his family from King George II in the 1700's. Stephanie and Philip have to work together to save his castle. This novel includes trips from Savannah to Scotland, exploring castles, the bones of an unidentified body, gangsters, German spies in World War II, religious artifacts, historical references of King George and James Oglethorpe (founder of the Georgia colony), and blackmail. A great read!
Wonderful Summer read! Love the way the locations in Savannah,GA and Scotland are compared. How they are intertwined with the storyline, finding not only the similarities but also revealing the historical and religious significance to the reader. I kept hoping Stephanie and Philip would find ways to overcome the obstacles that came their way. Identifying with the spots around Savannah is always fun! Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!
