Jimmy behaves like a wiggle-worm. He squirms. He fidgets. He calls out in class, and just can't settle down. Designed to help and teach kids, parents, educators, and caregivers to open discussions about hyperactivity and other learning disorders, this comforting and charming rhyming story reassures youngsters with ADHD that they are not to blame for the "racing motors."
This book follows a boy called Jimmy who can't sit still, it is narrated by Jimmy's best friend Michael. It goes through all the problems that Jimmy faces at school but doesn't know why. Michael describes how Jimmy has trouble at school but it very kind and has a big heart. I like this book because it is from another child's point of view and shows that children will know it is bad behaviour but also know the child is kind too. It shows that some children's actions aren't out of choice. I feel the appropriate age range would be from 6/7 years of age upwards as it is quite a simple book to read and not too much text. In the classroom it could be read to the class, or used for independent or guided reading.
Jimmy is an elementary student who is living wit ADHD. He is constantly struggling to stay focused during homework and has a problem with shouting answers out in class. Jimmy does not fully understand what is going on, until he finally sees a doctor. This book is a great way for students to learn about the topic of ADHD. Many symptoms are discussed in a student friendly way, making this book a great resource for students to connect to. I would definitely recommend this book for most younger kids who may be experiencing similar symptoms.
As a teacher, it is hard for little students when their peers behave differently. I think this book is a great starting point in helping them empathise.
