FOR USE IN SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES ONLY. At a family reunion, the cousins line up in order of their ages to get their pictures taken, introducing the concept of numerical order.
This is a short and interesting story that teaches about sequencing and putting people in age order. The tale is fairly entertaining and the illustrations are funny. The difficulty of getting many cousins of various ages together for a photo can be appreciated by many adults.
We enjoyed reading this book together, but I think I will try to focus on getting more of the higher level Mathstart books, since the books like this one in MathStart Level 1 seem to be almost too easy for our girls.
This book helps students to understand number order. I will let students draw pictures of their family members. They will then cut out the pictures and arrange them from youngest to oldest. They can also arrange them from oldest to youngest.
Game: I will use notecards with numbers 1-20 on them. I will then take one card from the deck. The students will put the cards in order to find the missing number. For advance learners, I can use higher numbers.
This is the first book on a math topic that my daughter has not complained about reading. I'm hoping to find more to "sneak" the math in for my lover of books. Relatively easy for a practiced kindergartener for numerical order, but a good review. My pre-k boy was interested in it.
