John's prize-winning essay gets him six days at Space Camp with Wishbone who, on the first day there, imagines himself as the hero of Jack Williamson's novel, The legion of space, who is on a thirty-first century outer space rescue mission.
Synopsis: Wishbone is going where no dog has ever gone before: Space Camp! The Jack Russell terrier and his human friends, Joe, Sam, and David, attend the astronomical camp for a week, learning what it takes to make rockets fly, and the rigorous training all space cadets have to go through. This reminds Wishbone of the story The Legion of Space by Jack Williamson. Imagining himself as the protagonist, John Ulnar, he goes through a intergalactic journey to save the Earth!
The Good: This is different fare than usual for this series, but still very fun.
The Bad: Nothing, really.
Content Concerns: Sex: None. Nudity: None. Language: Name-calling, at worst. Violence: Fantasy violence throughout the sci-fi story, which includes more than one character getting killed. Drugs: None. Frightening/Intense Scenes: Scary monsters in the sci-fi story; emotional intensity in both stories.
I loved the inter-mixing of Wishbone's adventure with the tale of the space adventurer rescuing the princess. A real-heartwarming and adventurous tale.
