[Siren Classic ManLove: Erotic Alternative Sci-Fi Romance, M/M]

Kyrinen was pretty sure that the world had gone to hell in a handbasket when someone tried to assassinate the president. He was positive of it when martial law was declared and armed soldiers sat on every corner. He knew it was time to get out of town and lay low before things got worse.

Before he can leave, a man comes into his life who changes everything. Sebastian Haq is unlike anyone Kyrinen has ever met, even if he is his best friend's brother. For one, Haq can talk to Kyrinen through a telepathic link. When Haq starts talking about other worlds and bonds and spaceships, Kyrinen has to decide if great sex is worth having a boyfriend that is completely off his rocker.

While Kyrinen just plans on getting out of town, Haq wants to get them off the planet. Can Kyrinen trust the madman or should he cut his losses and stay on Earth?

About Me
I believes the only thing sexier than a man in cowboy boots is two, or three men in cowboy boots. I also believes in love at first sight, soul mates, true love, and happy endings.

I live in the great Northwest region of the USA, with my gorgeous husband and soul mate, two boxer/collie puppies, one old biddy cats, and three fish. When I'm not being a mother to my six teenagers or cleaning up after my two 70 pound lap puppies, you can usually find me cuddled in bed with a book in my hand and a puppy in my lap. Or on my laptop, creating the next sexy man for one of my stories.

I welcomes comments from readers, so drop me a line. stormyglenn@hotmail.com

What do I do ?
I'm a writer of erotic, paranormal, werewolf, futuristic, contemporary, gay, and Ménage a Trois romances. I'm currently published with Siren Publishing, Torquere Press, and Noble Ellora's Cave.

1.25 stars only because I think it was maybe better than Twilight. But not by much.

This was so bad it was painful. Glenn is very inconsistent in her writing and editing and this was at the bottom of the pile. I was really frustrated because it had potential, even with the MPREG stuff, which I abhor*. That had absolutely nothing to do with why I hated the book.

Issues:

Stilted writing:
Kyrinen watched people come and go until a voice on the television caught his attention. Dropping the curtain back into place, Kyrinen turned to face the television. A news commentator was coming on the screen. It was another special report. Kyrinen walked to the couch and sat down. Grabbing the remote, he turned up the volume. Sitting forward on the couch, he began to listen.
Ouch.

The book was published in 2011 and yet when a college kid--who was fairly technical--wanted to save information, he saved it to a disk. A disk. Then he printed out copies. A disk. Not a CD, not a USB drive, a disk. In 2011. A disk. I didn't even own a disk drive in 2011 and hadn't for quite a while.

A huge action scene that greatly affected their situation and health, all happened off screen. It was clearly a convenient way to have them in the medical situation for a somewhat funny scene.

Haq told Kyrinen that Kyrinen was great just the way he was and didn't need to change. They were specifically talking about the latter's need to wear makeup and use hair products, etc. Three seconds later, Haq was complaining about Kyrinen spending so much time getting ready:
He knew looking good was important to Kyrinen, but why couldn't he just run a comb through his hair and be done with it?"
There's the usual Glenn sexism, although it wasn't as bad. The young woman was at least athletic, but only more so than the very fey Kyrinen. She was also studying to be a nurse while her bf was going to be a doctor. These are both wonderful professions and I see them as equally important. But Glenn always follows stereotypes and gender roles and it drives me crazy.

This is a spoiler but if you already know it's MPREG, which you do, it's not a big one.

Everything worked out too perfectly like a fairy tale. But a bad one.

Somebody in the very beginning attempts to assassinate the president and everyone is crying and have joined together on campus to watch the press conference a giant TV in the gym. The streets are barren. Okay, I was alive when Reagan was shot, and seriously, people were surprised but after the Kennedy assassination, we lost our innocence about such things. What group of college kids is going to be sobbing and terrified because someone attempted (and failed) to kill the president. Also, why would people run to the gym instead of watching it at home? Also, the MC gets there just as the announcement is being made, even though people are already crying outside.

A lot is made of the fact that Kyrinen carries a "man purse." The thing is huge and doubles as his book bag. That is not a purse. That's a bag. Many men carry bags: laptop cases, duffel bags for gym equipment, satchels instead of briefcases, book bags, backpacks for whatever else they need. A small bag would be weird, yes. But a big thing no, not if it's described as a "man purse" and not just a woman's handbag. Oh, but wait, at one point the thing is actually referred to as a backpack!
"For once, it came in handy." Kyrinen unzipped the large section of teh backpack and began pulling the contents out...
Oh, and what does he keep in this big huge man purse?
makeup, comb, pens, pencils, and a wallet.
Not a lot. But teh comb is weird. He would also have product and probably not a comb at all. Maybe a brush.

Martial law is declared upon said assassination attempt and there is a curfew immediately enforced, no exception. Um, hospital workers? EMTs? Police? Then, a group is allowed to ? Within a day, everyone has to start registering. It all just happens way too fast. We're talking about a bureaucracy here.

I got a kick out of an important but off-page scientist being named Laura Brannigan, although I suspect it was unintentional as the singer only uses one "n."

In the beginning of the martial law, they talked about being prepared. But

There were timing issues, such as thing being done once, and then the next page referred to several days of it, and then another page later, it was the first time again.

Although the book doesn't act like it, and most people would probably be okay with it, there is cheating. (major spoiler) but how is that not cheating? Regardless of whether you consider it cheating or not, it isn't what I want in my fated mate books.

I'm going to shut up now.

*My big issue with MPREG is that it's either making one man into the woman of the relationship (true here even though the other could theoretically get pregnant) or there's no reason for there to be women. I read M/M because two guys are hot together, because I love men, because gay men in particularly make me go "awwwww." But I still love women and I don't want them to be removed from society. Anyway, a being who can both get pregnant and also impregnate is hermaphroditic. They aren't men because a man doesn't have eggs. Even seahorses are specific genders because the female lays her eggs in the male's pouch which he inseminates and carries to term.

This is a fun read if you are into the ‘alien comes to rescue his bondmate who has been hiding amongst humans’ scenario. Add a little bit of ‘government threatening to take over’ conspiracy and some hot sex and you have the ingredients of this story. Oh yes, there is also male pregnancy in this book, so be prepared.

Kyrinen is extremely naïve and sort of charming in his innocence. His parents have always been ‘paranoid’, seemingly knowing that something was going to happen to endanger him, so he is probably a little more prepared for things going weird than his best friend Angela and her boyfriend Bobby. He feels the magnetic attraction to Haq, who declares they are bonded, and gives in without worrying too much. Realistic this is not, but it is sort of cute and in line with some of the author’s other work.

Haq is the big, all-alpha he-man who comes to the rescue. It may have taken him ten years to find Kyrinen once he’d followed him to Earth, but when he does, he completely takes over. In typical dominant male fashion he neglects to tell Kyrinen about some of the details of the situation, assuming he knows best. The resulting conflict and fights are a surprise to him, but they only serve to bring him closer to Kyrinen in the end.

If you like a strong man rescuing his mate, if the idea of male pregnancy doesn’t bother you and if you are into planetary governments fighting for supremacy, you may like this book.

This wasn’t what I was expecting and I love being surprised! Kyrinen is an interesting young man and Haq is pretty much the hot, slightly older man of Kyrinen’s dreams. I would have preferred more time spent on the hows, whys, whens, and whos but I’m glad for the world building I did get.

Since I love mpreg I really wish more time had been spent on that but since this novella released quite some time ago I think I understand why the author wrote it the way she did. Regardless, I still greatly enjoyed this story.

Starman started very nicely.

The main couple was lovely and the was... wow.

The was a bit weird and not well handled...

But the book made me think of Alpha Trine by Lexi Ander.

The potential was there and in the middle of the book I checked if there was a sequel. Surely there had to be!

I expected some huge epic ending, a battle in space while the MCs tried to get away... and then even more epic sequel in space! With the rebels, the battle to reclaim their homeland and the throne...

BUT alas! The author decided to destroy all my hopes by giving us a crappy disappointing ending where everything is magically fine and already dealt with and no sequel.

Oh well, I will reread the Alpha Trine AGAIN . That'll fix my mood for sure.

This was a toss up for me. I liked it, but in some ways the main character is so naive its almost painful. There's a lot of angst here, for most of the book the main character is in self-denial mode. Hurting the one he cares about but afraid to adjust to the changes taking place in his life.

This reads like the first book in a series, so I expect more to come.

uhhh...It has good ratings from others but I didn't like it much it's just not my cup of tea. Alien story in our current modern world & undiscovered by humans (´・_・`) in conflict with the government(・_・ヾ Hmmm...I think it's the setting(time & place) I didn't like but I do like the main characters and the story just fine so 2 stars for me. 。^‿^。

More like 3.5 stars for me. I actually really enjoyed this! I thought it was fast paced and entertaining and I loved the you-know-what. Only annoying thing is waiting for more! I felt like the last quarter of the book was a bit rushed, so I'm hoping there will be more!

This had potential to be such a good one. I think it was cute and sweet, but there really was a whole lot of nothing as far as characters, plot, and general romance went. Reads like an amature story. I usually like Stormy Glenn, but Stormy is sometimes a hit or miss author, this one is a miss.

Love sci-fi and this doesn't disappoint.

Just wish that the situation they left behind on Earth had been taken care of too.

I absolutely loved this book. I'm marking it down because it ended so suddenly and there are so many things I wanted to know about.

I just wish there was another book to carry it on into a series.
