Brac Pack #23

Curtis's Dads

Rate this book
[Siren Everlasting Classic Erotic Alternative Paranormal Romance, M/M, shape-shifters, public exhibition] Curtis's need to rid himself of his virgin status drives him to his mate with anticipation, and his love of mountainous men lands him the largest man he's ever seen. Chauncey will be the perfect mate if Curtis can get his dads to stop interfering long enough to let Chauncey claim him. Chauncey is fascinated with his mate. But it seems every time he opens his mouth, his extra-large foot goes straight in it. He gives Curtis anything he wants, even when Curtis decides he wants his own apartment instead of moving in with the bear. Curtis thinks life is great with his new mate until his past comes back to haunt him. Can Curtis get past a betrayal from long ago, and can he keep Chauncey from getting blood on his hands when he hunts the one who betrayed him? Each book in Lynn Hagen's Brac Pack collection focuses on a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, we recommend reading the series in sequential order. ** A Siren Erotic Romance

This was book 23 in the "Brac Pack" series. Curtis is the son of Mark who we met in book 11 of this series he has two dads because Mark is mated to Cade. Chauncey Lakeland is a bear shifter who has a twin brother Chance he first meets his mate at the barbecue that his family had when the pack members came when he tries to get close to his mate his father's stop him. Curtis is a virgin and he wants to be rid of it but his dads are in the way. When he decides that he needs his own place he moves out and no one is happy about but he is trying to gain his independence when a ghost from his past resurfaces he is afraid. This was a pretty good read when Curtis goes to some of the mates for advice he gets all kinds of comments known of which helps him he was afraid to have sex for the first time because Chauncey is a big guy. When his former boyfriend Billy shows his face again they find out what he did to Curtis and Chauncey wants him dead along with Mark and Cade they also find out that Curtis was not his only victim. The pack also gets closer to finding out who wants the four leaders dead. When they find Billy is found he has kidnapped another young man. This was a good read this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Same comments as the previous reads. Mark and Caden were assholes.

2nd read June 2014
UGH! Carter and Mark pissed me off even more so in this one. Maverick was a douche, too. Curtis is of age and they should all know how it is to be around your mate. Gotta give mad props to Chauncey though, he stuck it out.

First read 11-8-13
At first I was mad at Mark and Carter (and even Maverick), but I guess I get it. It's your kid, but Mark should KNOW about mates and how they are.

Nero and his "intimate moments". HA! Still love that guy.

This is a cute story, focusing on Curtis, who is painfully shy, and Chauncey, one of the mischievous bear shifter twins. There are some interesting developments in the overall story as well, and an old enemy gets his just rewards. Quite a lot actually happens for a short book, but the clear focus is the relationship Curtis and Chauncey are trying to build.

I liked how shy Curtis is, yet he follows his curiosity and stands up to his dads, which is about time. He is adorable in his fumbling attempts to ask questions so he can figure out what to do with Chauncey when they finally do have sex. Some of what the mates tell him is really funny, and all of it out of context adds up to more confusion than it is worth. Curtis also has to face his past, and that is hard. Luckily, Chauncey is there to help him through it.

Chauncey is hilarious, constantly telling himself how clever he is, even though he really isn't. He keeps running into issues and misunderstandngs with Curtis, but he doesn't give up. Good for him! He is also there when Curtis needs him, just like a good mate should be.

If you like this series and want to find out what happens next, and if you appreciate big, strong mates taking care of their physically weaker partners you will probably like this book

Honestly... these books are insane. Sometimes I really don't know why i want to read them. I have some issues. In general I don't like threesomes, so Jasper finding his mates in Zeus' pack was really hard for me. And I didn't read any of them. I'm not a big fan of male pregnancy either. But I can't stop it because in general their world is absolutely fascinating.

I never thought Curtis going through a bad shit in his life and kept secret about it, a pain he held for so long. When he can't take it anymore, he lay his secret in the open and it felt like his life is much more lighter than before, good for him.

I don't understand how the twins knew where Billy lived.

The fey could've shimmered, too.

2012 Review:

So, I didn’t really like Chauncey. He’s an idiot, really. And Curtis? Not much to him.
Overall this was just lame. I don’t think it’s just me; I believe the author’s style really has gone way down in quality. I mean, even more. It’s as though no one even looked at this thing after the first draft. Weird.

Well, I’ll give the book that. A is certainly a refreshing concept for a book in this series. Okay, we tend to have lots of evil lecherous men after the pretty boys but this here went from slightly goofy and amusing to fucking serious in a heartbeat . I am still not certain if this is just a bad retcon, though. We’ve had glimpses into into his thoughts at times and there never was a hint of this.

Mind you, this probably is just the author’s very awful way of setting up her dramatic reveals. Just like she has done with those various previous protagonists who suddenly turned out to be shifters or other beings late in the story, and had been aware of it and the whole mate thing, yet somehow never given even an inkling of said knowledge in their very thoughts.
Dear authors, these things need to be set up carefully. Otherwise it just feels like you suddenly changed your mind. I.e. terrible, awful, shoddy retroactive continuity.

Well, I delved into the Bracverse a 2nd time and now there are 121 books - yikes! I loved this Universe the first time I read it several years ago and now I love it more, I really do, but I've only been able to read these series (and I have expanded to all the books that are currently out in each):
Brac Pack
Christian's Coven
Zeus's Pack
Demon Warriors
The Exiled

These are the series that start the Universe. Reading them in order is a must. Each book has it's own love story but there is an underlying story that plays out throughout them all. As you get towards the end of these series, other series come into play and I noticed that, since I did not read them, I missed some of the characters being mentioned (good and bad) but I was still able to follow because the main ones stay the same.

One day I WILL buy these and read them all!!! (For the correct order, just look on the Internet for Lynn Hagen Reading Order):
Brac Village
Shadow Tribe
BPNG (Brac Pack Next Generation - Brac Pack kids)
The Remus Brothers
Wolves of Desire

Fearful Secret

Curtis has moved to Brac Village staying at the Den (Maverick's House). Though he is an adult now, his fathers are still super protective of him. He's shy but eager to get together with his Bear shifter mate, Chauncey (one of the very playful and humorous twins). The very definition of "You play too much". Curtis has a lot of questions and concerns about mating such a huge shifter and who does he turn to - the mates from the Den - their advice is hilarious.

Luckily despite his playfulness Chauncey is a good and sensitive guy who only wants the best for his mate even if it means slowing down his courtship. A horrible event in Curtis 's life makes his Bear, in laws, his Dads, and Maverick's Wolves extremely angry. It makes Chauncey furious and murderous. All he wants is for his mate to be safe.

typical lynn hagen serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical lynn hagen? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).

out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all books by :
lynn hagen
stormy glenn
scarlett hyacinth
carol lynne
gabrielle evans

unless otherwise noted. i'd apologize, but i'm not sorry. i figure it's about as much time as they put into their books. dammit! well, i made it all the way to the end being rather moderate in my assessment. that's a win.

I like the Lakelands (generally more than Maverick's pack) but Chauncey isn't my favorite of that clan.

My main issue here though is the whole Billy thing though. It didn't seem to make sense completely. I mean, if you go back to the original break up (Curtis didn't seem traumatized at the time and my understanding is that he continued to work at Mark's for a bit---until the supposed theft?) so I'm a little unclear on the timeline there. It's true that trauma is sometimes internalized or repressed and maybe there was more going on...

Anyway, overall, it wasn't a bad story. it just wasn't my favorite of the Lakeland family.

I've enjoyed the series. The mates are always fun. This one wasn't as good as some of them. I think too many are starting to get the same pattern. I would love for the author to mix it up a little. Add some new element to the equation. The side plot with someone out to get the leaders isn't it. I want a different pattern to the relationships. I am hoping the next one may have that.

I love Lynn and her books. Have almost all of them.

However; I must explain my three stars. The story as usual ties into the other books but not too much which is perfectly fine. The issues faced are to be frank kind of obvious. I knew what was happening pages before the issue was revealed.

The characters I love and Lynn I love so this review is hard to write. -lesigh-

Of all mates for Curtis to have--- Big mouth, practical joker, chronic flirt Chauncey!I remember his man hungry line when he first met Maverick to petition for living in Brac village-- boy that sure came back to bite him in the ass. No wonder two protective men like Caden and Mark don't like him. It was funny how inexperienced Curtis wrapped him around his little finger.
