Trap House is an unflinching account of the goings on of an Atlanta drug den and the lives of those who frequent it. Its cast of characters include the Notorious P.I.G., the proprietor of the house, who uses his power to satisfy his licentious fetishes. Of his customers, there's Wanda, an exotic dancer who loathes P.I.G., but only tolerates him because he has the best dope in town. Wanda's boyfriend Mike is the owner of an upscale strip club, as well as a full time pimp.
Tiffany and Marcus are the teenage couple who began frequenting the Trap House after snorting a few lines at a party. Can their love for each other withstand the demands of their fledging addiction, or will it tear them apart?
P.I.G.'s wife Blast, doorman Earl and a host of other colorful characters round out the inhabitants of the Trap House.
Trap House is the bastard child of real life and the author's vivid imagination. Its author, Sa'id Salaam, paints a graphic portrait of the inner-workings of an under-world. He takes you so close you can almost hear the sizzle of the cocaine as it's smoked—almost smell the putrid aroma of crack as it's exhaled. Yet for all the grit and grime, Trap House has the audacity to be a love story. Through the sordid sex and brutality is an underlying tale of redemption and self empowerment. Trap House drives home the reality that everyone is a slave to something.
I am not a fan of urban or street fiction because much of it is boring (poor plots and silly, stereotypical characters lacking depth or originality) BUT I found this story fast paced, some of the characters shocking and true so I was fully engaged from the start. I did not know the definition of a trap house, so this work of fiction taught me many things, along with the definition of trap house -- a place where drugs are sold and also the same place where the addicts use their drugs but in this Trap House – this one in particular -- there are other seedy things happening – terrible and degrading sex acts all for the amusement of the dealer. There were many characters dealing drugs (or dealing something to get drugs) or using drugs. I despised and hated P.I.G. I found him disgusting but interesting enough to keep reading and hoping he'd fall into the pit of a terrible demise. Tiffany's story broke my heart but exposed how a girl from a "nice home" could end up doing things she should not, all for the glory of drugs. I was drawn to the girl with down syndrome, I wanted to find out more about her – and what became of her. Her story, thought never really told was truly sad and gut wrenching. But I realize that the book was not about her or her story specifically, she was simply one character of several drawn to (or forced into) the Trap House.
A must read, definitely. The ending was uplifting, somewhat fairytale-like for some of the characters. But overall, the message is clear – dealing or using drugs will kill you physically, emotionally and/or financially. And mostly for users of drugs, that drugs of choice has a voice and will follow you for the rest of your life! The book is not preachy in that sense yet this is what I was able to gather from the storyline and its cast of characters. Bravo to the author for creating an engaging plot and storyline.
Just finished Reading Trap House! this book takes people on a journey as to what goes on behind closed doors of a trap house. If the trap house is lead by P.I.G then people are in for a sick ride. P.I.G was a sick man who makes the drug addicts do sick things just so that he can get off and they can get their hit. The book also shows how a good girl can totally go bad, poor Tiffany hanging out with the wrong crowd... mainly her boyfriend leads her on the journey of her life. Will she hold on and take that journey for a ride or will she get mixed up with P.I.G. In reading this story, you got a feel for who the characters were and you soon realize that Tiffany is in way over her head. Though a work of fiction the book gives you a pretty good idea as to what the Trap House is like. This was a good book!
“Trap House” is about the inner workings of a crack house including the dealers and the addicts who inhabit it. P.I.G. owns and operates crack houses all over town. He has a strange sexual fetish that all the crack heads are subjected to. He degrades the addicts every chance he gets to satisfy himself and so they can get their next hit including “sweeping up.”
Although I felt as if I had read it before, Sa'id Salaam’s “Trap House” is a good read. It has many characters; each one is very distinctive. It gives readers a look into the lives of a crack head and the dealings that are made in order to satisfy that need. It includes sex, drugs, money, brutality, anger, disgust, sympathy and a little respect along the way.
This was a very realistic tale of the inner workings of a traphouse. I connected with each of the characters because they were indeed family members of mine that possessed the demonic crack demon that chased" that" high until death!
I was really rooting for Tiffany -- I wanted her to be free from that crack demon and was relieved to read that she made it... only to realize she will NEVER be free! Dang!
This story was well-written and I thoroughly enjoyed the author's ability to draw me into the story as if I was truly apart of the tale! Excellent... just excellent!!!
Trap House was a really HOT read. It started off slow to me but the more I read the more I became wrapped up in the the world of Pig, Tiffany, Marcus and Wanda. These characters became so real to me, as if I really knew them. The author was very graphic with the details and events in the book,to the point where I could actually visualize each and every chapter as I read. If you haven't read this book, your missing out and when you do, strap on your seat belt and enjoy the ride!!
This book reminds me of Donald goines book dopefiend. I had to actually look up Donald goines book to make sure I wasn't reading the same book they were so similar. Instead of p.I.g. the guy name was porky and he had his dope house set up the same way. With almost the same events happening. I'm wondering if this is where the author got the idea from.
This book was wild to the point of completely unexpected. Although the topic matter is very dark, the characters are human, and a reader can connect to each one individually. I have no complaints about this book whatsoever. Highly recommended
Urban fiction is my guilty pleasure. There, I said it. Haha This was a lowdown, gritty and nasty story of what I'm sure its like in a crack den and the depths at which people had sunk to get their drug was shocking! it was a page turner!!
Trap House was beyond the usual story of addicts and their schemes; of getting their next fix. I loved this book from beginning to the end and look forward to a sequel!
I could not put this book down! Action packed all the way through!! This is definitely a must read! People were dealt some dirty hands!!!! Smh! I loved every minute of it!
