After killing with magic to save his own life, Seiran Rou is persona non grata with the Dominion, the ruling body of magic. Though he has the support of his vampire lover, Gabe, his half-brother, Jamie, and his friend Kelly, Sei suffers when Dominion supporters continue to harass him. To make matters worse, long-buried memories of his violent past are starting to surface, including e-mails and phone calls from Matthew Pierson, a man who abused him—a man who's supposed to be dead.
With his fears driving a wedge between him and Gabe, Sei tries to get help, only to find himself in a trap. Sei does know Gabe will come for him. What he doesn't know is how either of them will survive the fight.

Review: This book was quite a punch of emotion. I felt terrible for Seiran throughout the whole thing. He already had anxiety, panic attacks, and OCD, and the guilt and trauma from what happened at the end of Book 1 only made his mental health even worse. The author did an amazing job of showing Seiran's slide into depression and his worsening mental health in his thoughts and actions and feelings. It was heartbreaking to see and feel how much he was struggling. I knew that what Seiran was worried about---that Gabe was going to get tired of him and leave him because of all his mental struggles and because he couldn't have sex---wouldn't actually happen, so the emotion wasn't that I was worried about the relationship, it was simply that I felt for Seiran. It was also awful finding out the backstory about Matthew and what he did to Seiran. It's no wonder Seiran has some issues. It probably sounds terrible to say this was the book in which I finally warmed up to him (I had a hard time liking him in Book 1), but I think it was just that I finally saw him with his shields down and finally got to understand why he acted the way he did in the past.
Gabe, on the other hand, was super perfect again. But, even though I normally like when characters are more realistically flawed, I couldn't help but love Gabe. I want a Gabe in my life. And a Jamie, for that matter. Maybe even a Kelly. Seiran really had some amazing people in his life who cared about him, worried about him, comforted him, supported him, and did their absolute best to help him. So even though there was some downer emotion from the struggles, there was a lot of sweetness in the book too.
Unfortunately, I was frustrated that I still didn't get anything that really showed me why Gabe and Seiran love each other. As I mentioned in my first review, it's clear that they do love each other, but all that was ever shown in Book 1 was Seiran having (or trying to have) sex with Gabe any time he was around him, and in this book it was only ever sex or Gabe comforting Seiran and telling him how much he loved him and how he wouldn't leave. The flashback that explained how Gabe and Seiran met would've been the perfect time to show something more, but even then it was literally just Seiran trying to get in Gabe's pants and Gabe already being protective and perfect and caring, despite having just met. I just wanted to see more of the non-sexual connection between them, something to show their compatibility or to explain why they fell in love in the first place.
As for the plot, it was mostly about Seiran's emotional struggles and how he felt it was impacting his relationship, but I didn't mind or get bored because I love character-driven books. The story did pick around 70% or so though with more actual stuff happening. Terrible stuff, of course, because poor Seiran just can't catch a break.
So overall, despite the relationship issue I had, I enjoyed this book, even more so than the first one. I felt more connected to and invested in the characters, I thought the mental illness aspect was well-written, I really felt for Seiran, and I definitely wanted to continue the series upon finishing!
Recommended For: Fans of Book 1 in Lissa Kasey's Dominion Series. Fans of character-focused m/m urban fantasy with witches and vampires. Anyone who likes books with struggles and/or mental illness but also lots of positivity and support, plus a bit of fluffiness, to balance it out.
Initial Thoughts: A lot more serious and with more emotion than I was expecting because of Seiran's mental illness struggles (depression, anxiety, panic attacks, OCD). I felt terrible for him <3 Full review soon.
"For all the trouble I caused him, he still held me like I was his very last breath"
This long novella just reaches inside my chest, grabs my heart, and shatters it to pieces. It is choc full of angst, gosh darn it!!
First, that suspensful prologue ... man, what a way to start a story. Then, we have Seiran recovering from his night of attack and by Brock in book #1 only to have him relieving his painful memories (his memory of never owning a pet, his mother sending him to military school, his f*cked up abusive relationship with one of his school seniors, Matthew) and to have Matthew back from the dead (as rogue vampire) to torture him all over again (this time ).
The scene after Seiran is captured is intense, I feel like all oxygen is sucked out from my surrounding ().
All I can say that, I'm glad that this ends with slightly happy note compared to book #1 ( because if not, I will have to succumb to some overly sweet stories to induce myself with sugary coma, just to survive this one.
I think this is way better than Inheritance; tighter plot () and way more emotional story.
I also warm up to Jamie this time -- I don't find him too creepy as stalking big brother anymore. Also Kelly, Seiran's water witch friend is getting more and more adorable. Oh, and Gabe, man, he just owns my heart for his deep love towards Seiran.
I LOVE IT. Count me in for whatever other stories from this world ...
PS: I actually want a story from Tanaka's perspective. From Jamie's tell, she seems to love Seiran before being a super b*tch of a mother. So what happened? Was she threaten by other member of Dominions? It would be interesting to find out her reasons to do all that ...
I so love this series! Seiran is so adorable. Gabe and Jamie are so perfect with him. The angst, danger, thriller stuff, psychological drama, etc., are really well done. I figured out what was going to happen within the first couple of chapters, but still, it was really good. Part of it I wasn't sure about and that kept me guessing.
Like in the last book, Seiran deals with grief by . But he's so cute when he does that I love it.
I also really loved when he freaked out and Gabe and Jamie's reaction was beautiful.
Kelly was great as before and I could feel some set up for the next book there. (Read the synopsis of the next book if you're curious what I'm talking about.)
The main problem for me is that I don't understand what Gabe sees in him. The book reveals that he wanted Seiran from the moment he saw him when Seiran first propositioned him. He turned him down because he wasn't of legal age and Gabe didn't want to get killed. GROSS. What makes it particularly bizarre is that in this same book, Gabe mentions that he looked for Seiran's abuser once he heard about him in order to have him prosecuted so he wouldn't abuse other kids. It was really great the way he handled that and he came across as really wonderful. But then I think back on Seiran at 17. Yea, Gabe, you're a hero.
The age difference does play a role here. In many ways, Gabe treats Sei like a son. They are not equal in the relationship. Gabe absolutely respects Sei and doesn't force him to do anything he doesn't want, even supporting Sei's need. But he and Jamie take care of Sei, watch out for him, hover almost, like a mother. Then again, Sei kind of needs it because he's heedless about the danger he's in.
The book was so good, though. I was tearing up near the end and again, I can't wait to read the next one.
It says something about a book when it hits a couple of my major, major problems with M/M romance: age differences, and sex with minors, even if it is within the age of consent. Those are serious problems for me. Yet the book did these things so well, I still give it 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. I just love that little lynx.
I'm so in love with this series it's not even funny.
This one deals with the after math of what Seiran goes through at the hands of Brock. He's damaged more than before and is now required to see a psychiatrist. Instead of the psychiatrist healing Seiran it seems as if he's getting worse, though. On top of that, Seiran is getting memories of an abusive ex and getting threatening emails and calls. All this starts to cause friction not just between Seiran and Gabe but with Jamie as well.
I feel like with each story written the series becomes better and better. I enjoyed this one more than Inheritance and I think that's because in the last one Gabe seemed distant and always busy whereas in this one he's around more, trying to comfort Seiran as best as possible. I still adored both Seiran and Gabe although I wish Seiran would talk to Gabe more and trust him but he has commitment issues so I understand. I fell in love all over again with Jaime. There's just something about him that makes me want to grab him for myself. He's so protective and sweet, a mother-hen really. Kelly really became a part of the story this time and proved himself to be a great friend.
The beginning of this book starts off with a bang that leaves you anxious throughout the book, anticipating something awful to come. For me, that was exactly what I was looking for so I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for horrible things to come but riveted to the screen. As with the rest of this series, I couldn't put this one down once I started it. It's much more suspenseful than Inheritance was and I loved seeing Gabe and Seiran get closer and seeing Seiran come to a decision as to what Gabe means to him.
All in all, a fabulous series. I had a few questions at the end but that never hindered my enjoyment of the story and these characters. So looking forward to more of Seiran and Gabe! Love myself the lynx and vampire pair!
OK so this series has been pulled for an edit or re-write so Reclamation (A Dominion Novel Book 2) was only re-released 4 weeks ago after it's first publication in 2012. Book 3 and 4 are not available as of now Sat 20th June 2015.
*** This series is turning out to be a great UF, read. Now I quite like reading UF that run in a close parallel type universe but over the years I've personally lost my taste for the sheer amount of utter crap, formulae, angst ridden, YA, vamp trash, BUT...
. . .I found these very different and way more original, they stand out from the crowd. They are well written, but do have one very angsty MC, but he has good reasons for it which compliment another rather original plot in book 2.
If you love UF with your witches, vamps and shifters, I feel these books are "just" past that YA line in my opinion, so pick up a copy. I luckily found a friend who is lending me their eReader for the weekend while I'm sick in bed and they have book 3 & 4 woo hoo. There was some frantic phone calls placed today as I just need to know what's happening. I'll also be interested to re-read book 3 & 4 when they're re-released please hurry :)
So yeah, they're bloody good OK, LOL. Must have, must have, and they'll be here in a few hours.
Very good m/m paranormal romance in which Sei's seeing a Dominion-ordered psychiatrist to help him work through the events of the last book, but he seems to be getting worse instead of better. I would definitely have enjoyed this book more if I hadn't read the prologue - it made me too anxious to really settle into the story.
Tears were shed during the reading of this book. This whole book had a dreamscape sort of feel that kept me off kilter and extremely anxious, not saying it's a bad thing, but viewed with a different lens. I continue to enjoy this series, and my heart gets attached just a bit more with each book. Can't wait for the next one and hoping it's a longer read!
The love they have for each other is not comparable. I loved the ending in this one...but they are a bit predictable. I'm still waiting for that shocking twist!
One of the few series that you can re-read all you want and it's still amazing. Can't wait for the rest of the books to come out! I will probably read everything from the beginning again :D
Reclamation is the second book of the Dominion. Lissa Kasey actually mentioned in one of the goodreads threads that reclamation was almost like part 2 of Inheritance. I think that I could have easily read Inheritance and Reclamation as one book. The books were almost novella length and flowed into each other nicely.
This book answered a lot of questions that I had in Inheritance such as, why is Sei so damaged emotionally? I learned a lot about Sei and his past that really helped me to understand him better. I thought that both the conflict and the villain in this book were interesting and fairly well developed.
I definitely feel like there is much more left to learn about Sei, about Gabe and the Trimega, and about Jamie. I am happy that the author is contracted for more books because I feel that there is so much more story to be told. I really enjoy the short stories that the author releases because I never feel like I can ever know enough about Sei and Gabe.
This installment is more intense, with action throughout. Given the prologue, I was waiting for the shoe to drop at any moment. At first, I was disappointed that we were given a peek at what would happen. But, as the story played out, it all made sense.
As with the others in this series, I did not want to put it down. Poor Seiran is in therapy to help him cope with his issues and even though it is forced upon him by the Dominion, he ends up finding it helpful. It is very sad to watch him struggle so much. On the flip side, Gabe is a solid force, always there, standing by him, ready with whatever he needs.
Jamie is as sweet and caring as ever, remaining by Seiran's side as his shadow and protector.
Seiran's mom continues to be one big piece of work, though I was happy to see she did'nt always get her way.
My heart was in my throat near the end of this one, but I was very satisfied with the way it ended.
This series and especially book 2: Reclamation are psychological thrillers set in a paranormal world view. Sei is recovering from the attack he suffered in book 1 and is seeing a paranormal psychiatrist, as ordered by his superiors at the Dominion. Remember, Sei is a witch, one of the few male witches to have gone through witch training, and he has very special powers as an earth witch. I love Gabe, Jamie, and Kelly, who are there to support Sei in his quest for healing and sanity. Is the man who attacked Sei really dead? Did Sei kill him? That action is something that haunts Sei so is he trying to relive the past with a different outcome or is Matthew still after him? The search for truth may drive Sei even more insane or it may give him the peace he seeks. It’s up to Gabe to make sure Sei is OK, but Sei doesn’t want to put Gabe in danger. This series is a real thriller. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
I stayed up far too late last night reading this and got up far too early this morning to finish it. Put simply, I loved it. Sei continues to struggle with remembering his past and he has a lot to deal with in the present, too. I love his relationship with Gabe, who continues to be a rock for Sei. It was great to see his relationship with Jamie developing as well. Sei's low feelings of self-worth continue to affect his relationships with both men but they are relentless in their support for him. I am looking forward to the third book as I really want to see what happens between Jamie and Kelly.
Poor Seiran! Man he has a difficult time. The action seemed to just be from the word go. Yes, it's not always "shoot 'em up" but the psychological drama of it all is there. You just knew there was more going on with those doctor visits. I'm really liking this series. I can't wait to see what happens with the Dominion and Seiran after graduation.
I'm really loving this series, I couldn't put this book down. I also think that Reclamation is a step up from Inheritance, so that bodes well for the rest of the series. I just love Seiran and Gabe, Jamie and I'm growing really fond of Kelly. I hope he finds someone to love too!
4.5 Wow! This sequel to Inheritance started off with a prologue that had me holding my breath! This book delves into Sei's past more and took me on a very emotional roller coaster! It answered a lot of my questions but left me with new ones, I can't wait for more Dominion stories!
Reclamation is the second book in Dominion series. It takes place several weeks after the events described in the first book.
Reclamation is, in every way, tighter book than its predecessor. While the previous book had to deal with the world building, introduction of all the players and their backgrounds, relationship between Sei and Gabe, etc., this book is focused almost entirely on Seiran as he works through his old issues and the consequences of Brock's attack. The image of Sei that emerges in this book, in every painful detail, is one of abused young man (both by individuals and witch community) with all the consequences: low self-esteem, poor self-image, risky and destructive behavior, etc. I admit it: although it gave us enough hints about the abuse, it was difficult for me to completely sympathize with Sei in the first book. After reading this one, I think you would have to have a heart of stone not to.
At the beginning of the book, Sei is recovering from his injuries and, for the first time, dealing with his numerous issues by undergoing therapy with Dr. Tynsen. However, the most burning problem for Seiran is his inability to make love to Gabe after Brock's attack. He feels overwhelmed by Gabe's and, especially, Jamie's constant hovering. He feels like a burden, which brings all his uncertainties to the fore. By his own admission, he feels comfortable only around Kelly, because it seems he doesn't expect anything from him. He is still targeted by witch community, the therapy is bringing back his most painful memories and, most importantly, his tormentor – Matthew Pierson – is apparently alive and wants him back. To say that this is a painful period for Seiran is an understatement. There are betrayals along the way and some surprising twists. The events and Sei's struggles are heartbreaking, but not all of it is bad.
One of the things that become apparent from Sei's therapy is that not all of his memories are reliable. The true memories cast somewhat different light on his life, especially the relationship with his mother. She was described with no redeeming qualities in the first book, mainly through Sei's biased view, but Sei's as well as Jamie's memories show that Sei wasn't always unloved and that outside forces may have forced his mother's hand, at least to some point. Also, Sei learns to accept some truths about himself, his past and his relationship with Gabe, things that will, eventually, make things better. What I particularly liked is that through it all, through all the hurt, there is a part of Sei that remains undamaged.
I have only one big complaint about the book – about development or lack thereof of Gabe's character. Don't get me wrong, he is wonderful, especially to Sei. He is genuinely supportive, accommodating and loving. He has no flaws. And that bothers me. Every character in the book, even those who didn't appear on page (like Sei's mother) went through some kind of change. Jamie was shown as caring, but sometimes overwhelming older brother. Kelly, my new favorite, showed us his sunny and gentle personality even when we know he suffers pretty much the same treatment as Sei did for being a male witch. Andrew Roman showed (completely) his true colors. Only Gabe remained the same and, because he plays such a huge role in Seiran's life, I expected more of this character: more depth, more background, maybe demonstration of his vampire abilities.
Since the book concentrates so much on Sei, there isn't much room for a bigger picture, i.e. the political games within the Dominion. While Sei is certainly on the way of recovery, there are many unanswered questions, including what role Sei will play in the forthcoming conflict between the Dominion and Ascendance. What of Trimega? What is the conflict between Gabe and Andrew really about? Also, there is Sam, one of Seiran's students, who played both negative and positive role in Sei's confrontation with Matthew and who will have his own book. Up to this moment, the author announced three other sequels, so I imagine we will have answers to all our questions.
Overall, Reclamation is a very emotional, tightly written addition to the series. The suspense builds slowly and it keeps you turning the pages to the very satisfying end. I, personally, enjoyed this book more than Inheritance and I'm looking forward the new adventures of Sei, Gabe, Jamie, Kelly, Sam and others. Highly recommended.
When I finished book 1 I really wanted more. In book 1, I loved Gabe and Seiran’s dynamic and especially their independence and how unique they were. In this story, I felt we lost a bit of that special flare that was Seiran Rou. I get it. I understand why. That Brock mess was horrific I just always felt Sei was the type of character that would never let the bad guy win. And for a huge majority of this story, Sei let several monsters from his past win and dim that special spark and I hated it. Not the story!!!! Just that one aspect.
There’s tons of drama here. This author (WHO I LOVE) hinted in the blurb what was going to transpire and it was a bit obvious from early on. Needless to say I was totally enveloped into the story. From the beginning. There’s something that is so compelling about Sei and Gabe. I love them together. I love how Sei is surrounded in these strong people who love him wholeheartedly and protect him.
In Reclamation, Sei and Gabe are navigating their lives after the horrific attack from book 1. They trying to build their lives together while abiding by the rules handed down to them. Its obvious Sei is far from ok. Not only is he burdened by memories of Brock but also memories of Matthew(you have to read the book to learn about him….BUT ugh…ugh….UGH). Sei’s a shell of his former self and while it was hard it was also compelling because his insecurities were long gone whenever Gabe was around. I love them together…!!!!!
Overall, I absolutely thoroughly enjoyed this serious. I can’t wait until Seiran is 100% healed…shoot I’d even settle for the 70% as long as he isn’t the mess he was in this book. Absolutely looking forward to book 3….get this serious…it’s deep but oh so good!!!

When I was looking for the next BL book that I could read, I stumbled upon this one, which seemed to be interesting and had amazing cover. After I finished reading 'Inheritance', I realized that this series might not be the one for me, but I wanted to read 'Reclamation' anyway and I also try to give another chance to this series. I think it wasnt the right move to start reading this sequel right after I was done with the first book, or at least I was under impression that I didnt enjoy the first third of this book as much I 'enjoyed' the prequel.
Reclamation brings interesting turn of events, there are parts that I liked, there was something that I could call character development, but as a whole it wasnt satisfying for me and I still had the problem that the storytelling wasnt very detailed, just brief in my eyes. I kinda hoped that the circumstances of Seiran would improve, but he is getting into deeper and deeper shit. I know that he experienced really awful things, and that I am supposed to feel pity for him, but to be honest I really wasnt able to connect with him and most of the time he was just a character with mental problems that I was never able to grasp. (and I dont know if I can blame for that the underdevelopped storytelling.) I really dont see a chance that the situation could improve for him, after he experienced even worse things in this sequel, so what will happen next?
I could praise how Gabe had understanding for Seiran and how he approached the problem of Seiran being traumatized after intercourse with Brock. Seiran realized true worth of his partner and he was able to bond with him on deeper level, but I cant shake the impression that every step of progress in their relationship was just pushed on them, and when certain factors disappears the old relationship problem of theirs will re-appear again.
I also could see re-usage of story formula from the prequel here. I wished we could get to know more about certain aspects and things that happened in the book.
As this is my second attempt to read this series, I'm now writing a review to prevent a third attempt.
After rereading the first book and giving it 4 stars, I had high hopes for Sei and Gabe's story. However, my excitement quickly faded as I saw Sei's mental health issues take a turn for the worse. As the first male Earth Pillar, he faces widespread hatred and death threats.
😡 The book starts with a terrible prologue that I regret reading. I hate it when authors reveal future events, especially when it's something horrific. This just made me anxious as I waited for that moment to arrive, which didn’t happen until halfway through the story.
Most of the book is dark and depressing. Sei struggles with guilt over killing Brock, worries that Gabe will leave him, and deals with his unhappy brother Jamie, who is less supportive than before. Sei is forced to attend counseling, where we learn about his tragic past. It feels predictable when the counselor turns out
The Two Main Villains: Roman, connected to Gabe’s past, and Matthew, who abused Sei as a teenager and has now become an evil vampire.
Matthew kidnaps Sei and forces him to commit horrible acts, including a gruesome scene where he I had to skip over it.
Too many awful things happen, like Sei losing all his beautiful hair. I skimmed to the end for the HFN conclusion, with Sei The relationship between him and Gabe has barely progressed, and the overall tone is just too angsty and sad.
Sei cries a lot, and despite being the powerful Earth Pillar, he comes off as surprisingly weak. It feels like the author is dragging things out to create more books.
On the other hand, Gabe is too perfect, standing in stark contrast to Sei’s struggles. I’m done with this series—I don’t care about what happens next.
I read the first full length book, Inheritance, in one sitting. It was great and so is this one. The only reason I didn't finish this one yesterday also was because I took some cold med's that put me to sleep. But I'm up and finished this book first before I've even had breakfast.
I love the world that LK has created. As I stated earlier, I'm surprised to find that there aren't any actual witchcraft training classes being offered at the university. Also, I'm from Wisconsin, so I do like to hear about it, though it is NOT as desolate and boring as LK makes it sound... Okay, maybe it is, but we love it here :)
Gabe is so perfect for Sei, and Sei is finally growing to realize that he LOVES Gabe. It seems like he has a hard time believing in love but he is getting to the point where the feeling in his heart is overruling what is going on in his head.
I hope to hear more about these two... hopefully without someone trying to kidnap or murder one or both of them. I'd love to read about how Sei begins to really come into his powers and figures out how to acheive the balance of power in the Dominion without causing too much strife. Dreaming... I know.
Love the world building done here, enjoyed the story, and absolutely love the characters. This book is going on my-6-star-favorites list and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
This one was so much harder to get through. Poor Sei is trying to recover from the events of book 1 and is having a heartbreakingly difficult time.
This was so much different from the powerful Earth pillar ass-kicking I'd expected the Dominion and the vampire bullies to get, but it completely makes sense that Seiran would need time to recover--especially since he wasn't all that mentally stable even before all of that craziness happened.
I did appreciate getting to find out more about what made Sei the way he is. A lot of this story is spent with him in therapy either discussing memories or doing hypnotic regression. A lot about things that were mentioned briefly in book 1 was revealed. And while it was sad to learn more about all he'd gone through, it left me even more impressed with who he'd become. And ecstatic that he'd found Gabe.
Fantastic series, I can't wait to start #3!
Favorite Quotes: Mentioning to him that I was going to have someone hypnotize me into have sex with him again didn't sound like a very relationship-solid idea.
"You never were normal. That's what I fell in love with about you."
A tree stood in our path. I could have asked it to move, but it had been there longer than I had lived and liked its place, so I let it go and climbed out of the car.
Honestly? I had a really difficult time not just blasting my way through this series. I was so entranced by Sei, Gabe, Jamie, and Kelly, that I almost ignored the other books in queue and just jumped into this Pillars of Magic: Dominion Chapter series, with both feet. Almost. Reclamation is book two in Lissa Kasey's incredible series.
After what happened to Sei at the end of the previous book, I just wanted to protect him, even though he's proven he's more than capable of killing in self-defense. It broke my heart, though, to watch Brock abuse and rape him, before Sei was able to kill him. Since Brock had killed Rose, Sei became the Pillar of Earth, as the magic recognized and accepted him. All of this has caused serious repercussions. There has never been a male Pillar, and the Dominion, along with its members, are not happy. Sei continues to receive threatening and harassing phone calls, all while, at the Dominion's "request", attending therapy twice a week. Plus, because of the rape, Sei is having difficulty being truly intimate with Gabe. I think you get the picture, right? Sei's life is even more messed up than it was before.
This one wasn't quite as fun as the first one. I mean, yeah, Sei is pretty messed up and all, but it just seemed like all his spark was gone. I also thought it was odd that he was so affected by the climax of the last book since he says himself that sex is a hobby for him. He chose to use it as a tool with the psycho from the last book, and he had actually been raped in the past. So for him to be that affected by something he chose when he wasn't (overtly and physically) affected when he didn't choose seemed a little too incongruent for me. Though I did appreciate his desire to get back to his old self, which was comforting to see. The original Sei was still there, just buried under the debris of his psychological trunk of junk falling open.
There was some great tension and emotion in this book. The writing was, once again, engaging and smooth. Ms. Kasey knows how to spin a good yarn, that's for sure. I do hope that we get to see Sei's spark come back in further books. It's what made me fall in love with him in the first place. As much as I love hurt/comfort, I look forward to Seiran being more proactive and less of a victim.
I really liked this sequel. Usually I don't read paranormal/fantasy books, especially if they involve vampires and shifters, because they're subjects I'm not much interested into. But the plot of this series caught my attention so I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did, because I liked it a lot. Seiran is a lovely character. He's very traumatized and afraid of commitment because of a difficult past, but this only makes him more lovable to me. In this second book he's dealing with what happened in the prequel but also with his entire past and it's not an easy road, but one he faces with courage, also thanks to the help and love of Gabe. Their relationship is beautiful, the way Gabe takes care of Seiran and doesn't pressure him makes him a wonderful partner. I read also the short stories that come before and after the two major books and I'd like to read even more in this series.
Oh man my heart broke for Seiran in this story. He's so torn up inside dealing with his PTSD after what happened to him. Not to mention everyone hates that he's now the Earth Pillar. Of course he's doubting himself and how those close to him truly feel about him. I hated seeing him doubt that Jamie and Gabe truly cared about him. He's doing everything to try to get better and yet it seems like he's just getting worse. Obviously hated his new therapist. :-p
This was a great addition to this series and I look forward to reading more. There's a lot of angst and action of course. I want to see Seiran grow and get stronger, trusting more in himself.
