I've read a few self-help / motivational books over the years. One thing that separates Ryan Walter's “Off the Bench and Into the Game” from the others is that I KNOW Mr. Walter is speaking from experience. I've SEEN him play in person; I've SEEN him play on television, and I've SEEN the box scores and stories in The Hockey News. This book takes lessons he's learned from his career, his teammates, his coaches, and his life, and shows how they demonstrate a tool towards success – or how they fail that goal.

Walter inserts quotes from various individuals, famous and not, to further illustrate his points. This helps break up the text, and shows that he did not invent the concepts that he is speaking of.

It's a pretty short read; I'm glad I made the time to do it.

Rating: 4 ½ stars … after mulling it over, I've decided to round up to 5 stars when a ½ star isn't permitted.
