An examination of the origin and meaning of the Runes, this book shows them to be a system that even today is still able to produce positive effects. D. Jason Cooper looks at how pre-Christian Germanic rune alphabets were used for both magic and ordinary writing. He studies their history and associated mythology, describing their role in magic, godforms and astral projection, and demonstrates how to carve, colour and use runes for fortune-telling. Furthermore, the book demonstrates how the runes can be used for divination and problem-solving, and to that end gives a variety of methods for spreading and casting the runes. Using the Runes by D. Jason Cooper is, in my opinion, one of the clearest and most practical books on the subject. The writing is superbly structured and easy to understand, making it accessible to both beginners and those with more experience. Cooper provides clear instructions on how to read, cast, and interpret the runes, blending tradition with thoughtful insights that bring the symbols to life. What I especially appreciate is how the book balances practical guidance with deeper meaning, making it a reliable companion for anyone serious about rune work. Highly recommended for its clarity, depth, and usability.
In short, I was wrongly expecting something on the history of the writing as it appeared in stonework or less permanent structures. A history of the development of the characters. First part held to it, but the last, vast, majority seems a personal magics book; where my subscription to the veracity of the material stopped. Caveat lector
