I really enjoyed this book. It was full of creative ideas rather than technical information. In the time of Covid-19 it's easy to get in a rut when it feels like you've exhausted the photographic possibilities around you. I really needed this creative spark,
This was the textbook for a visual communications course I took last year. Unless it pertains to my major, I sell my textbooks back, but I held on to this one because it proved invaluable. I've found myself going back to it again and again. The visual examples Krause provides are not only informative of photography and digital design techniques but also inspirational. We even had assignments based around particular sections (glass and textures, if I remember correctly).
I enjoyed the class, and I recall my professor imploring us to keep the text, so I did as you asked, Mrs. Perry. A great resource for amateurs.
This book looks like a fantastic resource for anyone looking to get creative with their photography! The variety of photography ideas and inspiration it offers can really help you create unique and memorable images. Once you have those great photos, sharing them effectively is the best way to share photos online. I recommend anyone interested to check out Best Ways to Share Photos Online. It gives great tips and tools to help your photos reach the right audience and make the impact they deserve. Happy shooting!
"Not your typical 'how to' digital photography book" is right! Instead of focusing on the technical aspects related how a camera works, what sort of camera and gear you should have, and a list of tried-and-true photography "rules", this book does what it says on the box. The bulk of Photo Idea Index suggests both ideas for what to photograph next as well as different ways of capturing that next subject--at times very off-beat and original--along with brief, easy-to-follow instruction on how to achieve the look.
The last third of the book includes some discussion on lighting (somewhat helpful) and post-processing (very basic) techniques, but its the ideas section making up most of it that you'd really want this book for. Good to read through once then flip through on days when creativity is running dry.
A great resource -- hundreds of themes, techniques, and tips on composition, lighting, and other matters photographical. If I'm feeling my photos look stale or uninspired, this is a quick creative pick-me-up. It's geared towards digital photographers, too, which is something I appreciate as I work exclusively with digital cameras nowadays. My only gripe is that the book is a little hard to handle -- the it's long and narrow and very tightly bound. Getting the pages to stay open is difficult without cracking the spine.
I've purchased many of Jim Krause's books before and have been pleased with just about everything he's produced. The man is an insanely creative whirlwind; if you're getting bored with photographing the same old places all the time, leaf through this book and see if you're not jolted into seeing old things with new and fresh eyes.It doesn't matter what kind of camera you own - point 'n shoot or DSLR - you will find inspiration after reading this book.
So far it is a unique, educational and very interesting book that will help any budding photographer stretch her talents in creative ways.
I continue to refer to this book when I want ideas that will improve my abilities as a photographer. It is full of tips, tricks and creative tidbits that will help amateur photographers push their skills and try new techniques. Give it a read!
This man either lives in or near my hometown. It was really fun to recognize some of the buildings or scenes that he photographed. He explains elements of photography clearly and simply - I really appreciate that.
good ideas on how to experiment and improve photography skills. Still, a lot of the things described here are pretty straightforward, so it's maybe not that revealing. However, the pictures inside a mostly great!
Not your usual photo manual--rather, a collection of inspirations. A little pdeantic at times, and some of the photos in it just aren't good, but it's still full of treasures.
