Dead serious and dead funny are the same here. Paul uses his humor and witticisms to pierce the facades. After the quitting of alcohol, he writes about mental sobriety, emotional sobriety, relationships in sobriety, spiritual sobriety, and all the ways in which distortions contort.

All roads lead back to me, the individual, Paul writes. The inner work of sobriety can be a fulfilling journey of a lifetime.
