To be fair I liked this book, I just felt it was a repeat of the first in the series. So a=many of the same elements that happened in the first book. Really, your boyfriend and BFF are both acting out of character, and you didn't think it was a spell right off?

I like Larue, most of the time. She just has this whole mopey thing that gets tired. For somebody who has the ability to see ghosts her whole life, she doesn't know very much about out them. She has some great moments, but it is hard to get past the immature dialogue and her flighty actions.

My liking of the first book is what kept me reading long after I was bored to tears. I might go on to the next book in the series, but if it is rehashing the same plot, I will be done with this ghoul!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Elizabeth Klett, who does a fantastic job. She has a great tone that transcends the youthful dialogue. Had she not kept the maturity in her read, this could have been a very different review. Her pace is terrific, just swift enough to keep the story moving when it lagged. Her voices were great, she didn't try to butch it up for the men but she did give them a masculine touch. I will definitely be looking for more of her reads!

Overall, I have wanted to love these reads but end up underwhelmed. They have such fun covers and engaging blurbs.

Disclosure – I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts opinions and ratings are my own.

Ghouls Night Out is a great follow up in the Larue Donovan series. I don't think I have laughed out loud this much in a long time, plus having the creeps with shadowy things in the woods. Larue always has a group of ghost following her, this time Mae West is in the line up,along with Callahan's grandfather, and it is a hoot!!

Demons and bad witches are the name of the game in this book. A mysterious cousin Copper shows up to take over Brianna the black witches clothing store. Is he like the evil Brianna?? Mindy and Callahan seem to be under a spell again. The coven leader Karyn is in a spell binding coma. Oh yeah, plus Karyn wants Larue to take over the coven....Whats a girl to do ????

I'm not saying anything else, you'll have to get the book and read it !! Its a very fast, witty, spunky read, and I'm so looking forward to book 3.

Rose Pressey is turning into one of my favorite authors, love all her series, and always re-read her books before a new one comes out , and enjoy them as much the second time, as I did the first time. Looking forward to How To Date A Vampire.

Happy reading !!

The star rating given reflects my opinion within ‘the official goodreads rating system’.

1 star: Didn’t Like it
2 stars: It’s Okay
3 stars: Liked it
4 stars: Really Liked it
5 stars: It Was Amazing

I don’t really give a rat-fuck that there are some who think I ‘owe’ an explanation for my opinion. Nope, nada, and not sorry about it.

Sometimes I may add notes to explain what my opinions are based on, and sometimes I don’t. I do this for me, on my books, in my library and I don’t ‘owe’ any special snowflakes a thing. Fuck off if you don’t like it and stop reading my shit.

Particularly given the ‘modifications’ to reader’s personal content going on (and outright censorship), unless particularly motivated I will not comment in detail.

It would help if GR was forthcoming in the new ‘appropriate’ and would make a site-wide announcement delineating the new focus from a reader-centric site to one that is now for authors and selling.

Rose Pressey’s work is usually light fare with paranormal and humorous touches and this is more in that vein. Larue is a psychic who runs a bookstore and talks to ghosts. In this volume, she’s being followed by the ghosts of Seth, the grandfather of the man she really wants a relationship with, Callahan, Anthony a handsome smooth talker and Mae West (yes that Mae West). Callahan owns the coffee shop and in a previous book was put under a serious love spell that Larue saved him from. In this one, Larue is approached by the head of the local coven who helped her save Callahan and she wants Larue to take over the local coven. For me this is one of the problems with this book, the world building is very loosey-goosey. Why would a witch think a psychic would want to lead a coven she’s not even part of? (other than Larue has ‘natural talent.’) The magic of this paranormal has poorly defined rules.

What upsets Larue the most is the evil witch’s cousin shows up and takes over her shop. Larue immediately thinks he’s evil too just because they’re related. It gets worse when Larue’s best friend starts acting like she hates Larue and Callahan distances himself thinking Larue is having an affair because she’s talking to the flirtatious Anthony. She’s insistent on not telling Callahan she can see and talk to ghosts.

Honestly calling this a ‘cozy mystery’ is almost ambitious. It read more like a straight up urban fantasy because there’s no mystery at all until 50% in when her store is vandalized. I have to say I dislike it when the cops are incompetent and they very much are in this. Sigh. I can’t even say that Larue is trying to solve the mystery as she has one suspect and will twist anything to fit him as the villain (and it wasn’t too hard to figure out who the real one was especially once things start happening to the coven members).

Still, it was fun and a quick read. There were things that bothered me though. Anthony comes up with what felt like should have been a big reveal but nothing happens there. Seth, being Callahan’s grandfather was utterly underused. He could have been literally anyone. The only thing he did that pertained to his grandson was argue non-stop with flirty Tony. I would have liked better world building as I said. Also while the title was cute, I wasn’t happy with the word ghoul being constantly used to mean ghost. They’re two very different things. That said, I’d read more.

Nothing says romance like taking your date with you to exorcise a house.

Larue is a bookstore owner who just happens to see and talk with ghosts. She has recently started helping out a ghost busting group to help the ghosts to the other side. Larue is called to a haunting while on a date with coffee shop owner, Callahan. Along the way, Callahan's deceased grandfather, Seth becomes a back seat passenger. At the house, Larue finds Mae West( yes, the real Mae West) and a James Dean wanna be. Now Larue has three ghosts attached to her. Damage to her bookstore brings up bad memories of bad witch, Brianna who was dealt with in the previous book. Brianna's cousin, Cooper has now arrived to run her the clothing store.

Whew! I didn't read the first book but soon picked up on the dynamics of the characters. The local coven leader takes ill and wants Larue to take her place. Callahan and best friend, Mindy are bespelled. Larue takes a bit to pick up on this.

I enjoy other books by this author and know that I should go back and read the first one which I understand has the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. I'm not sure I like the addition of well recognized people as ghosts that attach to Larue. I felt that Mae West was written almost as a caricature. It's almost like when people try to convince you that they are descended from royalty. Sometimes Larue was so dense that I wanted to smack her. This was a quick enjoyable read even with those drawbacks.

I hate to read out of order and think I will go back to read book one and then reread this one to grasp the continuity of the characters.

Book Title: Ghouls Night Out
Book Author: Rose Pressey
Source: K.U.
Rating: 5 stars

Okay, so Abe moved on and Mae West takes his place. Larue is one lucky gal to get all the attention from famous ghosts.

It gets more serious for Larue in this one. Not only is she still not lucky in love (again someone is after Callahan), but also there’s a new guy in town. With her past experience from her last case and learning that witchcraft exists, Larue, is confused, angry, and determined to yet again fight for the man that she’s interested in. It doesn’t help that her best friend, Mindy, suddenly hates her. Larue is in for another big ride!

Larue is getting better at solving the complex life that she lives, but still is a little slow to realizing who is behind the mischief.

Oh, and of course, she gets two other ghosts who have opinions on everything, including a young man who is in love with Larue. I loved his (Anthony’s) character, he added entertainment to the read. Also, having a recently departed ghost helped for Larue because she had to handle less stress. I mean ghosts are stressful…the way that they don’t leave her alone that is. 😉

This is a light reading for anyone who likes to read about romance, ghosts, and mediums. I highly recommend. A good continuation to book 1 and it starts off right where book 1 ended. ^_^

Oh how I wanted to like this more than I did! I was initially drawn in from the beginning. It got off to a good start with an interesting way to be introduced to the characters if you hadn't read the first book. I had not, and although the book constantly refers to things that happened in the first book, that was not really what troubled me. (But yes, there are other authors who are much more successful at crafting a book that is not so dependent on the first. This is not a "jump in any time" series.)

There was only so much of how HOT Callahan is that a reader can take! Does he have any other redeeming qualities? Maybe he is more developed in the first book, but I found him flat and one-dimensional. I found it SO tiresome that his hotness is all Larue can get back to. The mystery, too, just takes too long to get rolling. I did not find Larue to be a particular strong character either. I thought she would be the cool ghost-hunter, maybe with a bit of sass there, but I found her sadly timid. I couldn't stand the whole digging herself in deep with her lies to Callahan either. The book is rife with so much self-doubt, rhetorical questions, and "self-speak" that does nothing to get the story moving forward.

The sidekick ghosts hangers-on are cute and entertaining. But there is way more telling than showing in this for me. Meh.

First story that I have read in the series.

Larue is a book shop owner and her other job is paranormal investigating and helping ghosts to pass over, it does help that she can see and speak to ghosts.

In this story she is been followed by Seth who is the grandad of her love interest but after visiting a hanuted how she collects another 2 ghosts who annoy her.

Her bestfriend Mindy becomes disinterested in their friendship and treats Larue like she's a nuisance, someone is stalking Larue, her book shop and home are broken into and to top it off she is asked to becomed the witch coven leader.

It takes you on a great journey through out the story and I didn't want to put it down.

Looking forward to read more books in the series

This is a light-hearted tale that was a quick, fun read. It had several editing errors, but nothing that really detracted from the story. This is more for fans of the cozy mystery and not for fans of a true mystery. Given that there were many, many references to things that happened in the first book in the series, it's probably best to read these books in order, though I enjoyed this book well enough without having read the first book.

A other gem from Rose Pressey! 4.7 stars

I can't help myself, but I really enjoy her sense of humor and giggle through half the book. The story is always light-hearted and entertaining. The characters are always so normal and real. If you enjoy a slightly snarky sense of humor, start reading!

The characters Anthony and Cooper made the story almost unreadable for me. It took a long time to finish but eventually, I found Anthony less irritating. Callahan was missing, as in not an active character, for a lot of the story. Larue simply seems to have a way with people. And not in a good sense.

Entertaining. Happily Ever After. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

Poor Larue, just got everything back to normal, and things get crazy again. This time more people are involved and Larue doesn't know if she's coming or going.
Great series! Has mystery, ghosts, friends, and romance.

I would like to give the book a 5. The only reason I didn't was because of all the misspellings. On to the next Ghostly adventures.

Quirqky without ghouls. Ghost whisper and witches make this a fun book to read but pay attention or you will get lost in the translation. Good for all ages.
