This book was ok. I haven't read a Harlequin book in a long time and this new genre of theirs was ok. It is a quick read and there is a storyline but it's mostly sex, which is ok but I do remember Harlequin being a little more than that. I am glad that I did read this book.

This novel was all sorts of cheesy. I'm serious, I could not keep a straight face. The book is basically all a diversion for sex, the other stuff doesn't really matter. It was kind of stupid.

Mara Fuller – Darklighter - half angel (fallen) and half demon; watched by the Society, for an inkling of evil; has come into her powers; full time student; oldest (by 2 minutes) of triplets – she cared for them into adulthood, after parent’s killed; – all are adult now;
Lucien Marcelllo: ancient vampire; in debt to the Society, and is their most powerful Ancient operative – and has schooled himself to be cold/unfeeling – especially after falling for a Darklighter, whose dark side came forth but had not yet crossed the line – but told she did so he killed her;
Anderson Stamos:half dragon shifter, head of the Society for the Elimination of Malevolent Magick; manipulative of Lucien;
Dennis Jones:human psychic, with abnormal hate of supernaturals; worked for SEMM until they discovered he lied to get the Society to kill innocents; lied to Lucien about another Darklighter, who could still be saved, causing his earth;
Summary:
Jones kidnaps Mara (drugs her), chains her to a pillar in a basement and beats her –holding their for a week… and when builds a fire in the furnace, ready to push her weakened body into it, her light side surges forth and puts out the flame… and now her dark side wants revenge… and Lucien is sent to diffuse her (by the Society); sex with him (any vampire?) sucks in her dark side;
Interesting dance – is he to teach her balance, or to wipe away half of her? Hmmmm; she holds onto her dark side, feeling that is what gives her power, gives her determination, and she will not give it up willingly; at first he uses mind control on her to gain her submission – but then gives his word not to… they have sex a couple of times, dark is absorbed, she is weakened, but only for awhile… and her light sense, then probes his emptiness… and in the end, when he lets her in to fill his darkness, her light overpowers her dark – and she has balance…
And when she has the opportunity to destroy Jones, she chooses Lucian’s life (whom he dedicated to his gremlin niece)… and lets the authorities deal with Jones… hmmm

I am beginning to love this series and the concept of what the story entails. This is the first book in the series; I read book two ‘Mated to the Werewolf’ first and now I have the pleasure of enjoying book one. I look forward to book three, should there be another book in the series.
Mara is one of triplet sisters, who will gain her power by the age of twenty-one. Mara was captured, held captive and tortured for what she is, a half demon. Determine on revenge that could possible bring her dark side to dominate her, leads Lucian to find her before it's too late. Lucian is a powerful Ancient and a vampire. He is everything you would expect a vampire to be; a little dangerous and seductive. His goal of needing to mate with Mara was entertaining. Their chemistry together got better as the story flowed, and it's my taste in how I like my paranormal books. Not only does the author gives the surroundings a paranormal feel, but the characters physical characteristics are as well. The author gave a bit of action that was also pleasing to read. The story is fast paced, but still likeable. However, I do feel it gets better with book two, ‘Mated to the Werewolf’.

Kind of a 2.5. Lucien is an ancient vampire working for the Society to Prevent Evil Magicks. He's assigned to mate with a Mara, a Darklighter (half demon, half angel) before she turns evil and to absorb her dark powers so she can't. Mara is trying to be a normal college student but then she's kidnapped by an evil human psychic and she's bent on revenge, using her Demon powers for strength. Along comes Lucien who says their going to have sex, he's going to absorb her powers and then protect her for the rest of her life. Understandably, she's not okay with this. However, she's crazy attracted and despite knowing the consequences has sex with him. Before long she's in love, but he's cold and closed off and it hurts Mara to know this.
This was super quick and I think the story felt rushed. The characters weren't so bad personality wise. Lucien was pretty well developed and interesting, but I had issues with Mara. Here's a woman who wants to keep her powers so she can go do some vigilante justice but then she makes stupid decision like having sex with a power-draining vampire. Twice. Despite being warned about the consequences. No sympathy for her. But here's the thing that made no sense. He didn't really drain her powers. Apparently the power draining was only temporary...so how on earth was mating to her going to help. Unless he constantly sexed her up - which given his libido was a possibility. And it's not like she's so great at resisting. This lack of logic and explanation and development bothered me.

Très sympa comme lecture ! Un univers vampirien qui pourrait être qualifié de rébarbatif et pourtant, l'histoire est super sympa ! Une société secrète chargée de protéger les humains des surnat., mais avec des meurses un peu légères ! Un puissant vampire dont la mission est de récupérer et au besoin anéantir une jeune femme mi ange mi démon !
Un roman assez court, mais plaisant à lire, sans prise de tête et assez rythmé !
A lire !
Il fait visiblement partie d'une quadrilogie !
1.99€ chaque volume en ebook, à ce prix là on ne va pas bouder son plaisir !

Du vampire, oui, mais pas que...
La couverture donne une bonne idée du type de créatures que nous allons trouvé mais j'ai été très surprise par la nature de Mara. Et je peux vous dire que c'est une belle surprise !
Mara est une jeune femme dont la vie n'a pas toujours été simple, surtout à cause de ses origines. Elle va faire la rencontre de Lucien qui est chargé de la protéger... d'elle-même.
Je ne peux pas trop en dire sans spoiler et vous ôter les points que j'ai aimé dans cette histoire. Donc... si vous voulez en savoir plus, il faudra le lire !
Une petite nouvelle avec une trame bien trop prévisible à mon goût...

The story was good and interesting. Lucien and Mara were likeable characters but it was missing something. It may have been that the story was very short and you just missed the ultimate connection. It is good and I will read the others in the series.

Atractiva, con un clásico y seductor vampiro de lo más llamativo. Me dio mucha risa la burla hacia Twilight. La relación entre Lucien y Petra me recordó mucho a la de Acheron con Simi. Mara no me gusto, demasiado terca -_-
